It isn’t wired up yet. Once I have that done, I’ll put on strings and see if I can get it playable.

Do you guys know of a freeware MP3/ WAV file editor or looping software?

This is primarily for drum samples…

wav editor? try wavosaur or audacity.

I’ll check those out. I pretty much just need something to modify a wav file of MP3 snippets and merge them into a continuous loop.

i’m going to a guthrie govan clinic on tuesday

The other guitar player in my beleaguered band is in love with this guy. He’s got some crazy technique.

GuitarFetish’s professional series alnico II humbuckers are great.

I’ve got their non-professional series alnico II for the EVH guitar, which I still haven’t wired in yet. Hopefully there isn’t too much of a drop in quality.

I’m about to receive a free bass, and have the option of choosing from the epiphone and lower grade ibanez grades. I like clear and pretty noises more than rough and harsh. So more of a jazz guy than rocker I suppose. What does SRK recommend?!

Also, what say you regarding 4 versus 5 string?

Please keep in mind I don’t really know much about basses or guitars. I just know Gibson SG body styles make my wiener hard.

4 vs 5 is just whether you want the range or not. i prefer 5 strings because I like having the extra low notes and as a guitar player it is also a lot more comfortable to play due to smaller string spacing.

On the choice between basses; any chance you can try them out first? That really is the only way to tell with instruments.

Do 5 stings usually provide more lower range? Or is it a balance between extended lower and higher range?

Testing it out would be difficult. My dad has taken up the hobby of collecting/trading guitars and wants to get me a bass. He lives kinda far though, so I can’t just go with him on his quests and test them. I was mostly hoping to hear some banter on preferences between basses in the epiphone price range. I understand if it’s too vague a question though.

Well you could add extra range either end, I just like more low end haha.

Traditionally, a five string bass adds a low B string, giving you access to five more semitones below E. It’s useful if you’re playing music with an extended range (particularly parts not originally written for bass), or if you just want to ride the low string and shake somebody’s nuts.

EDIT:

Obviously, you can tune the thing however you want.

Well I’m sold on 5 string. Thanks!

Now I gotta find some good ones that are low in price and suited for beginners.

“Suited for beginners” isn’t really a thing. Suited for you is though, obviously.

Nice, thanks Tomo.

Daaaaaamn… Yamaha BB series is beautiful. I get the impression they’re super expensive though. >__<

Quick question, What’s everyone preferred guitar/bass brand?
I got a Gibson Flying V and Gibson Robot Guitar.

You have the robot guitar? How is it?

Brandwise, I don’t really have favorites. Just about every guitar I’ve owned was made by a different company. I do tend to stay away from the big two, though.

Guitars I currently own:

  • A Schecter C1+. Recently upgraded with fresh wiring/controls and GFS alnico II pickups. Definitely the nicest guitar I own, and the most expensive.
  • A Douglas WRL-590. A steal for the price, though I wasn’t fond of the stock pickups. It’s a neck-through guitar with a double-locking trem… ritzy features.
  • A homemade Eddie Van Halen replica with a Fender Squier body and GFS replacement parts. Building it has been a good enough experience that I don’t see buying anymore guitars in the foreseeable future. I’d rather buy the parts I want and build the thing myself.

I can tell you right now I’ve had pretty decent experiences with Rondo and Kramer. While I’ve never played a guitar made in-house by GFS, I have bought parts from them and I’ve been very impressed. Based solely on that, they win the prize.

hey guys check it out im a cool guitar guy

The Robot guitar is decent but it does has it’s flaws.
I learned to tune my guitar by ear since I started playing guitar (not I still use a tuner to help out) and the automatic tuner on the guitar itself is amazing.
the only flaw I had with it was in the beginning, when it didn’t charge properly or sometime at all, so I had to find a person (which took me weeks to find) to fix the charge input in the guitar so it can take a charge.
Other that it didn’t hold a charge at the beginning, I had no problems at all with it to this day.

I seem to only come to this thread when I have a problem I can’t sort out myself. But anywho I’ve run into another small problem, I’ve been practicing playing wild thing using the major chords and I’m getting some buzzing when I go to switch from D to E and E to D. When I strum the notes ring out cleanly but when I go to lift my fingers off to change chords I get a slight buzzing. The usual culprits so far is the B string when I play a D and the G string when I play the E. I tried using less force when fretting notes and that helped significantly but I still get some faint buzzing from time to time still.

*Also what are the action on you guys guitars? I just measured mines and it’s 3mms at the 12th fret. *

Edit: After practicing for the last 3 days I figured out that it wasn’t just fret buzz but the high E getting pulled off when I switch from a D to a E chord. What can I do to remedy this?
