For sure. He has some glaring weaknesses, but he also has some good aspects as well (his buttons, specifically c.S, 2D, 2S, and 6K are really good, he now gets universal oki mid-screen off a throw, unblockable setups, etc). I feel like Venom is an absolute nightmare MU for him though

Also I don’t know who said he’s “Potemkin tier” but I’m not sure I agree, at least not yet. Maybe in time he will end up there, but he still seems a but unexplored to say for sure. For instance I’m seeing 5D tech just coming out (using 5D to negate I-No note, negate Ky super, get out of Elph unblockables, etc). I wouldn’t say he’s top tier or even upper tier, but it seems like he has the tools to be viable
I really don’t think he is because he has more moves that tell the oppponent “Don’t do that”, can apply pretty safe oki and can iad to punish mistakes. Those projectiles have a lot of mind-game potential. He also can wipe out over half your life from mid-screen (charged Four Tigers loop).
If only the spinning ground version of Four Tigers was fully projectile-invulnerable and air Falcon Dive was faster and an overhead…

Yeah getting in on venom is a serious challenge.

To be fair, when faulty said that Kum was bottom 2, he did add that his opinion might be colored by the fact that he plays the three characters that Kum struggles the most against =V

Good stuff, sir. I have no experience against Chipp and haven’t seen the MU in action, so I was hesistant to comment on that one, but I can see why it would be bad.
Also, did the Bedman players that said Ky wins that MU specify why they think so? I’m by no means an expert in that match, but it’s one of those matches where Ky can’t pick the pace of the match, so I’m really curious about that one.
Saying Johnny wins neutral cleanly was probably a stretch (though he certainly won the MU pre-patch, probably now as well?). Raven’s pretty tough however, since he can force Ky to come to him while having better normals, the ability to almost completely ignore stun edge (stance). Plus he has oki that can even be made DP-safe very easily while still being a bitch to block. I don’t even think the airdash is the problem in the MU, but that might just be my opponents not utilizing it properly outside of oki (read: they telegraph it badly which makes it 6P-food).

Which characters are those?

I don’t exactly think Raven has a great time keeping out Ky; he’s got the same issue as Axl which is that YRC Stun Edge often catches his extended hurtbox for a full dash in combo.

My experience with the matchup is that Ky ends up having to chase Raven and play on his terms, and that eventually leads to the Raven blender. This might just be me being impatient / respecting the excitement stance too much, however. I dunno.
You wouldn’t happen to have any footage of Ky vs Raven, by any chance? I’d love to see the matchup in action. The only time I’ve seen the matchup between high level players was Kazunoko vs Rion at EVO, and it looked rather tough for Ky. Yes, I know Rion won that set, but that was by the skin of his teeth and off of some impressive magic pixel comebacks (and Kazunoko not blocking any Greed Severs).

Personal experience against Steve H’s Ky. You definitely can run away from Ky and fish for mistakes, but that’s not a winning gameplan. Raven can definitely run his game once he gets the knockdown, but it really doesn’t feel that favorable for him.
And Greed Severs are pretty good against Raven. If he doesn’t IB or Parry it then he can’t get anything more than a f.S sans meter. Sweep doesn’t reach and f.S doesn’t go into anything else.
But are there any other high level Raven players other than Kazunoko? Haven’t kept my ear to the ground on it so I have no clue.

I actually checked Keeponrockin right now and there’s zero videos flagged with Raven vs Ky. Boo =(
Blazeu25 plays Raven now. There are a bunch of videos with him vs Mynus on Yogaflame24’s channel. Not sure who else is playing him.
On that note, what do people think of Raven now? My impression of him is that he’s a legit threat.
Umecha Raven is pretty nice. He plays at Mikado.

He’s damn solid. Not top tier bullshit but definitely has a lot of reaction tests and fun mobility. He’s not pixie mobile mind you due to his swoop not being a regular airdash but still quite fast.

i don’t remember any specific details about why bedman players thought ky had the advantage.
ky-johnny was in johnny’s favor by a small margin in 1.02 and probably is the same in 1.03; his neutral is essentially the same aside from more 2S recovery, f.S and 2S hurtbox expansions, and 6K not being + on block anymore. 2S nerf helps ky but the 6K change seems negligible to me since it was hard to utilize against ky. also as for raven oki, most of it seems reactable? as in like, i know where a DP is gonna miss and hit, at what ranges it’s fake (some setups can be made to look real but be fake and you get hit by something like command grab, but you can usually backdash and/or fuzzy out of them), etc. and i’ve personally found airdash to be an issue when spaced well, but it could also be lack of familiarity/just bad reactions. i haven’t played that matchup too much either; i actually played a raven round 1 at CEO and should have lost, especially after i whiffed a burst with 1 health, but i somehow got an air throw in a last second scramble then OTG 2K’d for the set, lol.
no other notable japanese ravens so far from what i’m aware of, but the update just came out. i’m sure in a month or so there’ll be some really sick raven. there are a few north american players i know who are playing him (blazeu, lich, keeponrockin) but idk where they are with him at the moment.
oh nice, randomly came across this thread. haven’t visited srk in like half a year. how many here actually play sign on PC and are EU-based?
i’m always interested in adding more people for plays as long as connection is good. i’m not the best, but i’ve dropped around 600 hours into the game since december release. here’s my steam profile
i play zato, sol and some potemkin.

I think I played against you last week together with Fjosnissen (I played May). If that was the case: screw your DP-mashing Sol, and holy shit your Zato is scary.
Also, you’re norwegian, right? Are you part of the NFGC-discord? It shouldn’t be hard to find people to play with there, even though something like 75% of the active Xrd-players here switched to Revelator-characters when Rev dropped.

The Raven oki I’ve been struggling with is the simple one where he forces me to block a sphere and follows up with airdash into high-low afterwards. I’ve seen people try to be cute and do trickier stuff, but a lot of those setups aren’t DP-proof. Funnily, both of these things got demonstrated pretty well at EVO. Kazunoko’s first setup got cleanly DPed out of, so he adjusted by only doing setups that are DP-proof and got a lot of mileage out of just doing that.
If you think his oki is mostly reactable, then I might have missed something about how his high-low game after Kugel > airdash works. That or your defense is fucking godlike compared to mine.

yo, i remember you. yeah, i’m norwegian, rl buddies with fjos guy. and no, only gg discords i partake in are the zato, mr_biscuits and some general xrd one. community on pc is generally too small for it to be worthwhile for me to look into more regional/local groups like that, so i never really bother.
especially since, as you say, i suspect most are on ps4 (and that’s what fjos told me, as well.)
edit: if you wanna join in on more of our lobbies feel free to add me and i’ll chuck an invite whenever! (as long as i’m not running specific sets or whatev.)

Most people who play Xrd here in Oslo actually have SIGN on PC, afaik. It’s just that people would rather play Rev given the option, since there’s a lot of Jam/Raven/JackO-players here. That, and Rev fixed my biggest gripe with SIGN (low blitz). Still, I’d say it’s worth a shot if you want more people to play with =)
I’m up for more games later though, although I’ll probably be playing Venom or Ky rather than May. I’ll add you when I get home, just do note that my right arm is out of commission for at least another week. I screwed up my arm due to playing too much Xrd this summer (yes, really) =(
Oh, and fun fact, there’s actually an Xrd-tourney in Oslo this saturday. If you can make it somehow, you should, even though it’s incredibly short notice. You’d likely manage to get top 3 from what I’ve seen.
haha, thanks, but i think you overestimate me a fair bit. i’m also not too big on travelling in general, so i mostly just play online or with local buddies.
and yeah, i get that, if i had access to revelator i’d be playing it myself! sadly i am a pc peasant. and that’s fine, we’ll play whenever your arm’s fixed!

Just regarding the Kum viability discussion - a Kum just won the Mikado singles tourney tonight, beating 2rio’s I-No in the final. Maybe a lack of MU knowledge played a part, but still…
