Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

May looks younger.

Damn asian woman genes.

ā€œPotemkin looks fucking Animeā€

ā€¦You uhā€¦You do realise that GG isā€¦Wellā€¦Yā€™knowā€¦

ā€¦Nevermind, America. Nevermind.

Quite a bit of over-analytical discussion going on here.

To the casual GG fan the new models are welcomed, for me at least. I thought his original design was unpolished and more of a stereotypical knuckle-dragging brute. The only way Pot comes across as another mecha robot anime character is if you are already oversaturated with such designs, being that I havent reached my maximum the idea is less intrusive. The only things that came to mind were PZ and FMA, after that I draw blank. I will say the less metal style of GGXrd is just an obvious nod to commercialism in FGs, I personally like the cleaner brighter more HD look but the gritty and dark edge of originalGG is what they started out as, so I can see how some people are dragging their feet.

Still some of you guys are really doing bit much lol. Iā€™ve seen pointier chins and more ā€œunrealistic proportionsā€.

The knuckledragging brute thing was the point, thatā€™s what Pot seemed like at first but he was anything but. I like the new design but it loses some of the charm and personality the old design had. I could do without the helmet persoanlly.

GGXX Pot, in aesthetics AND character, is an anime take on western concepts. Heā€™s an exaggerated, Russian Lennie from ā€˜Of Mice and Menā€™ with the subtle twist of him being actually intelligent. This plays aesthetically and in his characterization. Now, aesthetically, heā€™s just an anime take on anime concepts. If anime lied on a continuum of ā€œSomewhat Animeā€ and ā€œReally-fucking-animeā€ the needle would break the gauge and transform into a fornicating tentacle violating every orifice of Bridgette. His ā€œbruteā€ nature was part of his broader appeal.

The beauty in Guilty Gear was that for every May, there was a Johnny - every Zappa, a Testament. Iā€™m not saying Potā€™s new design implies anything different regarding general direction, but Pot was one of my favorite grappler designs ever - and I always stay away from grapplers in Fighting Games. I was drawn towards Pot largely due to how cool I thought he looked. Not touching this one with a 20ā€™ tentacle.

The whole FMA thing might be intended. If the ā€œdied to save Gabrielā€ ending is canon, it may represent Pot now being a machine but still with a human soul inside.

I completely forgot about that ending.

Killer Instinct is going through the same thing with radically changing the designs of pretty much all of its characters. Itā€™s just since the game was made back in 1994 the redesigns are more so welcomed and make the characters seem more modern.

The GG redesigns Iā€™m not a huge fan of, but Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll learn to like them the more I see them in motion.

New artwork.

I like Pot new design. Those shoes need to go. It looks fucking retarded

Yeah itā€™s mainly the shoes. Also cool location test poster. Wished the main character art was done in that style and toning.

Somewhat related. Dustloop really needs to pay their bills.

GG is an anime fighter no?

So howā€™s the new art style a turn off to people who dont like anime fighters?

I thought that #Reloaded was pretty colorful, its just the vividness of current generation that has people in their feelingsā€¦why?

Is this a sequel to AC? God Iā€™m lost I thought it was a prequel.

If itā€™s a sequel my dreams for Slayer may be lost :frowning: He got so sick of kicking everyones ass with nobody providing him with a real challenge he retired to his own world. God damn.

If Potemkin lost the helmet Iā€™d 100% love his design. Even the shoes. Itā€™s just the main part of his charm was the fact he was depicted as this harsh, tank of a brute, but under that, he had serious respect, and a big heart. This one could turn into some Wizard of Oz shit if heā€™s been rebuilt or some shit.

I-No, Slayer, Kliffā€¦RIP :frowning:

Its a sequel to Overture, so its like 15 years after AC.

Thereā€™s some new character involved, though (the one Sol calls a brat in the reveal trailer), so Slayer could pretty easily be written out of retirement. If the new character isnā€™t one thatā€™d work as a motivation for Slayer, they could probably just use a ā€˜letā€™s see how Sol has progressed in these yearsā€™ kinda thing.

I thought the brat would be Dizzy?

More like 5, Sin is part Gear and ages really fast, just like his mom (Dizzy).

I thought it was further after Overture than it was, turns out its only a year by the looks of it, so weā€™re sitting at 6 years after.

Iā€™mā€¦okay with Potemkinā€™s new design. Probably an in-game reason for all that armor (like heā€™s going to war or something).

But.

He needs to lose to goddamn Moon Shoes.

Have to admit Iā€™m very curious to see how this turns out.
