Quite a bit of over-analytical discussion going on here.
To the casual GG fan the new models are welcomed, for me at least. I thought his original design was unpolished and more of a stereotypical knuckle-dragging brute. The only way Pot comes across as another mecha robot anime character is if you are already oversaturated with such designs, being that I havent reached my maximum the idea is less intrusive. The only things that came to mind were PZ and FMA, after that I draw blank. I will say the less metal style of GGXrd is just an obvious nod to commercialism in FGs, I personally like the cleaner brighter more HD look but the gritty and dark edge of originalGG is what they started out as, so I can see how some people are dragging their feet.
Still some of you guys are really doing bit much lol. Iāve seen pointier chins and more āunrealistic proportionsā.
The knuckledragging brute thing was the point, thatās what Pot seemed like at first but he was anything but. I like the new design but it loses some of the charm and personality the old design had. I could do without the helmet persoanlly.
GGXX Pot, in aesthetics AND character, is an anime take on western concepts. Heās an exaggerated, Russian Lennie from āOf Mice and Menā with the subtle twist of him being actually intelligent. This plays aesthetically and in his characterization. Now, aesthetically, heās just an anime take on anime concepts. If anime lied on a continuum of āSomewhat Animeā and āReally-fucking-animeā the needle would break the gauge and transform into a fornicating tentacle violating every orifice of Bridgette. His ābruteā nature was part of his broader appeal.
The beauty in Guilty Gear was that for every May, there was a Johnny - every Zappa, a Testament. Iām not saying Potās new design implies anything different regarding general direction, but Pot was one of my favorite grappler designs ever - and I always stay away from grapplers in Fighting Games. I was drawn towards Pot largely due to how cool I thought he looked. Not touching this one with a 20ā tentacle.
The whole FMA thing might be intended. If the ādied to save Gabrielā ending is canon, it may represent Pot now being a machine but still with a human soul inside.
Killer Instinct is going through the same thing with radically changing the designs of pretty much all of its characters. Itās just since the game was made back in 1994 the redesigns are more so welcomed and make the characters seem more modern.
The GG redesigns Iām not a huge fan of, but Iām sure Iāll learn to like them the more I see them in motion.
Is this a sequel to AC? God Iām lost I thought it was a prequel.
If itās a sequel my dreams for Slayer may be lost He got so sick of kicking everyones ass with nobody providing him with a real challenge he retired to his own world. God damn.
If Potemkin lost the helmet Iād 100% love his design. Even the shoes. Itās just the main part of his charm was the fact he was depicted as this harsh, tank of a brute, but under that, he had serious respect, and a big heart. This one could turn into some Wizard of Oz shit if heās been rebuilt or some shit.
Its a sequel to Overture, so its like 15 years after AC.
Thereās some new character involved, though (the one Sol calls a brat in the reveal trailer), so Slayer could pretty easily be written out of retirement. If the new character isnāt one thatād work as a motivation for Slayer, they could probably just use a āletās see how Sol has progressed in these yearsā kinda thing.
