Iâm not trying to start anything. But i think itâs funny how this thread is more active than anything thatâs going on with the Killer Instinct forums (considering this game havenât hit consoles yet)
Because Killer Instinct was a mediocre series that was really generic in the SNES era. After the Street Fighter II explosion of Fighting games, some with different styles and themes. And Killer Instinct was this bizzare missmash of ideas from other games. Like how Combo is way too similar to Street Fighterâs Balrog (M. Bison in Japan). Ripptor felt it was borrowed from Primal Rage. I canât remeber all the connections my 13/14 year old mind made at the time. Jago was from a very poor understanding of Asian culture. Why a Monk from Tibet dressed as a Ninja and why his sister Orchid is a CIA agent.
Like when Killer instinct came out in the arcades, I can look around and point where every character was âborrowedâ from.
And the thing is Guilty Gear has both good single player and multiplayer modes. GG might be this Amine~ish and weird but weird has more character and depth than generic âlets copy a character from every other game and pour it into our half-assed fighter (KI)â
lol wut. killer instinct was a dope series. i dont know anyone that wasnt in love with killer instinct back in the day. combo isnt really similar to balrog at all outside of a dash punch and being a boxer, two very generic things anyways. riptor never felt like a primal rage rip off to me at all. even in hindsight, neither of those characters made me go, loool omg, you guys suck, just stealing character ideas. killer instinct was really fucking dope for its time (1994 for the original arcade game), and looked fantastic. there was nothing like it at all.
yet it still is doing pretty well at tournaments, despite it being on a new system (people still are deciding which system they want to settle with), where the cost to play killer instinct right now is 500 dollars, not including the arcade stick, or the price of the game, all which can run you over 700 bones not including tax.
Thereâs no other reason to bring up a completely unrelated game and itâs popularity on a forum nonetheless. KI is brand new and Guilty Gear has been anticipated since the last game. I think thereâs more to discuss in regards to GG and how it compares and contrasts to the previous title.
Or the Double Helix forums as well. Alot of tournament players like Mr Grimmmz who won SCR posts there.
GG is an established series that has popularity both in the east and west. KI never crossed over (yet) on the other hand so it remained pretty niche as far as fighters go.
