Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

It was really good, glad i saw it. hopefully itll be archived. i really enjoyed it.

After seeing this game in action here, I don’t know how anyone could think this game is going to be bad. It looks AMAZING.

Roman cancels really don’t look as obtrusive as people were making it seem

theres so much wrong with this game, the 14 characters is just the beginning of whats wrong with it. its the prettiest fighter out there for sure, i just hope we see a better game with the complete cast when the 3rd version comes out.

Why are people complaining about the amount of characters in the current roaster? Like, why is this ever an issue in any game? I understand if the roaster is small like 8 characters or so, but having 14 is plenty.

The people complaining are the exact scrubs who are like “WHY DOESN’T DIS GAME HAVE LIKE 40 CHARACTERS?!?!? I WANT EVERYONE!!” and when the game finally adds 40 characters, they’ll still be playing Ken mirrors with their friends.

My only issue is that they decided to only go one new character this version. 14 characters would be fine if out of the 14, 5 were new. Instead only 2 are new.

Anyone have archive of the stream? Thanks.

I would assume that we would get more characters for the console version (like most arcade fighting games).

This I can understand.
I love the old GG characters and all, but I kinda hoped there would be new brand new characters. If they ever add, say, 5 more characters to the current roaster, I hope at least 3 of them are brand new.

Thanks!

The character roster size isn’t an issue. The issue itself is that GG has such a damn diverse and interesting cast.

Wth?

Don’t even know how to reply to that; just watch the YT clip of the Nico tourney that Hecatom posted.

So, for the small number that doubt without appropriate knowledge or pondering; a message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwFnCUC8Dis

I miss the characters who aren’t in Xrd, too, but I see no reason to get bent out of shape over their omission. I have NO doubt ArcSys already has a long-term plan for what additional characters to roll out as the game inevitably gets patched and revised, and hell, odds are good that there’s at least one additional time-unlocked character for the arcade release (the new super-blonde boss girl from the opening movie). Good money also has Sin from Guilty Gear 2 coming soon, given that he has an in-game model in Ky’s story mode (and given the effort probably required to make those models look GOOD in that engine, I’m sure they’d have incentive to do more with it).

And even with a lot of characters missing, there’s still a LOT of fighting styles represented in Xrd. Let’s take a look:

  • Sol: Shoto with emphasis on close-range pressure
  • Ky: Shoto with emphasis on neutral game
  • Millia: Pure high-speed rushdown with some oki tools (Secret Garden)
  • May: Bruiser non-grappler character, now with added Sea World techniques for setup applications
  • Chipp: Archetypical ArcSys ninja, low single-hit damage with super-high speed and lots of reset potential…but this is Gear, so he’ll do relatively high damage for that character type anyway
  • Venom: Advanced zoning/pressure/setup with pool balls, has some great potential to drive up guard meter/force iffy Dead Angles compared to the other characters
  • Faust: Zoning with over 9,000 billion different setup tools, dependent on chance…backed up by some great normals and an unparalleled ability to distort his hitbox to be either super-short or super-tall
  • Eddie: Top tier puppet character lol (j/k)…a super momentum-based character whose insane power is limited by a kind of non-fighting-game-y mechanic of a hard cooldown, he incorporates both high execution and smart cooldown management to play well
  • Potemkin: One of the greatest grapplers ever invented, Po-chop says fuck mobility, I have Hammer Fall cancel, Slide Head, and if I ever lay hands on you say goodbye to your lifebar
  • Slayer: Link-intensive power character with unique mobility via teleport dash, limited oki application (in that he can’t have a detached hitbox hovering meaty over your corpse)…Slayer just works you over with his pokes and high-low-throw game until he gets that big-ass combo
  • Axl: Hardcore stretchy-limbs zoning character who trades recovery speed for sheer unadulterated range, plus I imagine Bomber loops are still in there
  • I-No: Technical rushdown character with insane high-low game and high air mobility
  • Bedman: Hard to tell so far but he looks like a meter-dependent setup character to me, basic stuff until his bar lights up and then his static super creates some AWFUL decisions for his opponent to make

Honestly I’m perfectly fine with this roster, I know some people will miss their mains (and I kinda do too), but I can’t think of many characters who do something INCREDIBLY different that’s not represented in Xrd except for a couple characters:

  • Baiken: TBH I’d have her #1 on my shortlist, always liked her guard cancel gimmicks. #R Baiken might be all right, though one thing I would like to see from +R Baiken is the ability to cancel her autoguard run into her guard cancels.

  • Zappa: Sort of a different side of the random-chance coin from Faust, Zappa banks more heavily on a complete (if temporary) change of playstyle depending on what ghost he summons rather than a split-second tactical adjustment like Faust might make. (Faust throws a favorable item out there, works with it, and the moment is gone. Depending on what ghost Zappa gets, he might either want to chuck it for a different one or keep it around for the whole match. It all depends on what he wants/needs to do in that matchup.) Plus I would love to see his ghosts in 3D, or rather Xrd’s 3D.

  • Robo-Ky: I hated fighting him (damn +8 jab, lol) but I loved his fighting style with the heat mechanic. I also loved his moveset, both aesthetically and mechanically (all that unburstable damage from command grab -> punch super, with more if he managed to queue up his detonation super, lol). Such a bizarre character even by GG standards.

  • Testament: Mr. Traps. Zeinest, trees, skull, EXE Beast, Testament was all about having his minefield properly laid out so that you could kick people into it and fill out his combos. Though he gained a lot of cool stuff in +R that I’m not sure might make it back to Xrd with their back-to-basics character design philosophy (non-counter Warrant, super-delayed Nightmare Circular, plus forward EXE Beast from the previous version). But only time will tell (if he ever comes back).

Runner-up: Johnny because he’s cool and also Mist Cancel

I understand that people miss their mains from the old game, but I see no LOGICAL reason to throw Xrd’s GAMEPLAY under the bus just because your absolute favorite character isn’t in there. It’s a personal-preference thing, not a scientific argument. People need to give the game a chance on its own merits before concluding that it’ll suck just because it isn’t GGXX.

I just don’t understand how those who complain about the cast can’t think about the amount of time and money it takes to add a single character, plus their respective stage and BGM. Gamers can be so unempathetic these days. It happened with KoFXII too. SNK wanted to give us the high res, well animated 2D sprites we wanted and just bring us a gorgeous looking game in general; it cost them so much money and time that they had to release an unfinished product (even then they did a great job imo) just to cover further development costs…and what happened? They were lambasted for their sincere efforts.

My characters aren’t in this game either (yet); and as much as I miss them I’m still spoilt for choice with the current roster because I find pretty much every single GG character awesome…aesthetically and gameplay wise. So stop complaining about the roster because we would all rather have this game come out sooner rather than much later; and I’ve already outlined the benefits. This is a brand new game with many new significant system changes. It’ll be much harder to balance with more characters; and I would much rather have my characters added with an improved version of the game…these current characters in the roster are kinda like beta testers lol.

Seriously, if you have any praise or appreciation for this games amazing visuals…how can you not understand the effort they must have went through, and thus understand the small (initial) roster?

I think it is. Dropping 60 bucks on a 14 fighter game that’s missing 2 of your favorites is going to be kinda hard

I’ll definitely bite if it’s retailed at $40 though

And if you’re complaining about cast YOU CAN STILL PLAY +R

Tell that to those who bought the USA PS3 version of GGXXAC :coffee:

The point is that I don’t want people to go back to the old game. ArcSys made a mistake by introducing the game with 95% returning cast. I want to take it all the way in THIS game.

No reason to not play both, they seem different enough that they can both exist side by side.
