Well that’s just a whole set of mindgames that boils down to matchup knowledge, not getting baited, and baiting the bait. As far as your original question goes, no there’s no 100% safe counter. You just have to do your best to make him miss it.

The start up on that ultra is just insane. By the way, the strategy on page one is gettting kinda old. I find it difficult to keep able out, especially able that doesn’t roll. He’ll get in with wheel kick or jump HK (which stuffs cr.hp majority of the time) I really need advice on this matchup, able is my worst.

anyone else find its a little harder to do the motions for double flash and flash explosion? i cant seem to pullem off as easy anymore

Update for Chun match up:

If you have U2 stocked, she can’t do a meaty df.hk cross up anymore. You can U2 late so it auto corrects and she eats it if she tries it.

I’m having the exact same experience. In vanilla, I wasn’t a rog main by any means, but I could throw his ultra out 100% of the time. Not the case in super…had to bring out the fight stick!

On the plus side: sonic hurricane is freaking awesome - the first few hits do a truck load and the hitbox is pretty damn good, real nice range too.

Other changes I noticed: his hitboxes in general seem to have massively improved:
J. mk hits very nicely
cr. mk seems faster
St. Fierce seems to connect a helluva lot more
SB’s hit box seems to be wider (I was catching people with the end of the SB)
SB charge time is noticably faster. This is the speed I was trying to whip them out in vanilla and it really, really helps.
UDK still not overhead but that hitbox is freaking sweet - I hit a guy trying to low jump over me with that!
I’m pretty sure they changed FK, somehow. Seems to work a lot better - still not an anti cross up tool, but it does hit more often.
YAY

T.Hawk is free, he’s totally screwed once you get sonic hurricane going.

Had my first breathless experience tonight, at first it was bad but then i learned what was going on. It doesn’t travel fullscreen, it’s similar to vipers seismic knuckle in that if you aren’t full screen and walking backwards, you’ll get hit.

That being said, once abel has ultra the best place to be is across the screen trying to bait it, jab…boom, walk back, jab, EX boom. If he goes for the bait then you just quickly jump back to full screen if possible and if you’re holding back it’ll whiff, wouldn’t be surprised if you could counter with you own ultra, but with that out of the way he’s alot less threatening

It’s a great ultra still, but it’s not unbeatable. I wouldn’t go with trying ultra, i’d start whiffing jabs etc etc as soon as he got ultra and play a mind game. It worked against a guy i was playing that got it on me 2 rounds(best of 5) and then on the last i figured the trick to use and baited him into using it by throwing an lp sonic boom from full screen. He activated his ultra, absorbed the boom, whiffed and then got punished, after the second time he wouldn’t try the ultra again

Ibuki isn’t as hard as i thought she’d be. It seems air-throw really really dominates her when she’s in the air. Boom gets rid of her knives, and as long as you block her dash grab low there’s basically nothing she can do to get in easily aside from taking to the skies, and flashkick seems great against her jump arc too. When she gets going she can send you to mixup hell, but in the meantime you make life hell for her because your normals are far far better, i’m sure your airthrow is better, and you have plenty of time to react to anything she tries as long as you’re blocking low, and you can hurt her pretty badly pretty quickly i’ve noticed.

Dudley also seems to be tamer than expected. Cr mk really comes in handy in this matchup, i believe guile has quite the reach advantage all around, but while i have a feeling that ibuki matchup is well known to m, player skill will matter far far more in the dudley matchup as i believe ibuki’s disadvantages are due to game mechanics.

On the flip side…Dhalsim seems to be a very, VERY hard matchup now.

F MK goes over low tiger shots in SSF4! try it out in training mode. good way to get in close without jumping in and eating say a kara uppercut or 2x F HKs.

some observations on some of the improved original sf4 characters that i’ve noticed when doing the trails:

vega’s links are much easier. they’ve improved his cr.mp drastically. so now ex can do j.hk, cr.lpx2, cr.mp, ex inzua drop as a 6 hit combo easy as fuck now.

ken’s now got ryu’s links (better cr.mp and cr.hp) and his overhead is much faster. his fwd.mk seems even better than it was before. i think ken might be as good as ryu now.

i’m not looking forward to facing abel’s ultra for the first time. it’s going to be the gimmick for easy wins seeing as nobody knows how to defend against it yet.

All the new characters are going to be beasting in a few months. No one knows what to do with them yet. Even just playing against a couple of sloppy Dudleys and Ibukis, I could see the potential for decimation in the hands of the right player. Makoto too. Cody will be problems. But everyone still sucks now, so enjoy the free-ness while it lasts!

Luckily, no one knows how to use it effectively yet either.

personally i think cody i the most overrated of all the new characters. he’s got easy ryu links, yes. but he lacks a good reversal.

deejay is better than i first thought too

eh, i think itll just be awile before we see high lvl cody players,in the upcoming weeks i think hell be used nasty, perosnally i think ibuki is plain pwnage, that kunai crossup combo is rape. and i didnt really like deejay, thought i would but he seems to stay in the air too long and its hard for me to land his ultras.

Wonder if anyone knows that Abel’s Ultra has a built in Armor Cancel.

EX Zonk isn’t a good reversal?

true. i dunno, he just kinda lacks something to me. probably because its early days.

i lost to the scrubbiest ibuki player because i didn’t have a frickin clue what i was doing lol.

t.hawk is a good match for guile so far imo.

juri is actually cheap. that dive kick into ultra is amazing.

The dive kick is punishable and it’s not an overhead so you can reversal flash kick it or cr.mp xx flashkick it.

Don’t think I’ve played a super good Juri yet, but from what I’ve seen you just have to block her air attack.

It seems Juri players online rely solely on the air attack to close distance and apply pressure… Punish on block. It seems that is half (or more) of Juri’s game taken away from her.

Ya, most characters that have problem with juri are ones without projectiles. She can’t keep up with guiles boom so you have to bait her jump kicks and just punish it with flashkick since it isn’t an overhead.

So can anyone give me a hand on a reliable punish if rog wants to TAP through a boom? Or should I just always block?

what about the ex one? i haven’t personally been hit by this yet. just been seeing it a lot in endless mode.

more observations:

ibuki is definitely going to be a horrible match for guile. like 7-3 for sure.

makoto isn’t looking very good. i played a good one and tore her a new asshole.

bison is even easier than before. gotta watch that ultra 2 on your jump ins though. it’s dangerous. luckily it doesn’t do that much damage.

zangief is still fucking horrible to deal with. i made a big error of judgement thinking that he was going to be easier.

i think sagat might actually be 5-5 now. having said that, i’m yet to play a great one. i think all of the shoto matches are much more fun with sonic hurricane.

still haven’t played a fuerte/rose :frowning:

from my experiences so far, guile is the tier below god tier. so much more fun than original sf4. the game itself is so much better too.

Just st. Fierce or Backhand him when he comes through. TAP breaks focus attacks, so unless you neutral jump to set up a BnB combo you’re pretty limited. Keeping him out with the st. Fierce/Backhand plays into Rog’s heads too I find. I really just prefer to send the fist his way and vary my follow-up game

I think Juri has enough frames to block after getting her ex dive blocked. So you can send the fist her way too and see what happens lol

Sagat is by FAR more manageable than in vanilla. Thank the gods lol
