Yes, as that’s how it generally is with me. People usually have to catch up with me via tech and shit.
And I’m also comparing it to how it is when I pickup new characters on games I’m familiar with. But seriously, it isn’t about winning or losing right now, it’s about him not really being a SF2 style character despite being touted as one.
I didn’t expect him to fit the mold 100%, but I at least expected his boom game to be better. It’s almost quite literally “bad” right now. Long charge and bad frames… This isn’t really what’s expected of a good zoner…
The games first “true zoner” idk, I expected a bit more power at neutral than straight up having slow AA’s, a fireball that’s jump able on reaction and normal pokes that are pretty easily counter poked.
What I expected was more along the lines of none of that stuff along with terrible offense.
Hmmm… Maybe he just needs an infiltration style of play to him…
Judging by your recent matches versus the assortment of ryu’s, you are doing it wrong. You guys really need to accept that the fault could be yours, not the character. You pick poor distances to boom and use your meter in an inefficient manner. And judging by the fact you are still super silver, I really don’t think “people usually have to catchup with you via tech and shit.” Go home and be a family man.
What worked for me as Guile is doing less.
Throw less booms, poke less etc.
Sit on downback and bait jumps with V-Skill, once u’ve discouraged them from jumping, that’s when u can throw out booms.
And your pokes (like b+HP, st.HK, cr.MK and f+HP) need to be used as a whiff punish, or as a follow up on your booms when you’re + enough.
You can’t use them like in SFIV, you need to use them a lot more calculated this time around.
St.MP and b+LK are 2 good buttons at stuffing/countering other normals. So if they’re walking towards you, and you’re afraid of getting stuffed, try b+LK (if spaced correctly) and st.MP.
I don’t know somehow I feel charging is weird with Guile just saw someone do low strong - sonic boom - flash kick combo in corner is there any charge buffering/partition ?
I don’t think it’s fair to judge his rank by his skill level. I’m only silver but that is because the last ranked match I played was like the beginning of March.
That shit I think it’s premature to pass judgement. The big issue I see from people is “he doesn’t do this like X version of Guile therefore he’s trash”. No one seems to be approaching him fresh, and that’s what’s frustrating folks (well at least the ones complaining).
My understanding is that there’s no partitioning in SFV (pretty sure Gilley busted that one on Twitter; I could be wrong though). The charge times are really well considered though - as you can see from that INO video, you have enough time to FK after boom if you pre-charge correctly.
Read through the frame data. wtf kind of design is it to make st. hp +6 on hit and -4 on block. You’re taking a big gamble for using it for anything outside of punishes. It feels like his only pressure tool is st. mp which is perhaps one of the worst ranged st. mp in the game. Upside down kick only combos on counterhit. Booms have worse recovery and are therefore riskier to throw out. Flash kick lost wakeup invincibility outside of ex. Throw range feels bad.
I don’t get it. But I’ll stick it out with him for a little bit more. His sobats feel more useful this time around. That’s the one positive I’ll give him until I see more.
St Lk, mk target combo is a good tool up close, on hit its +4 I think so great to start “your turn”
I leveled up so much from yesterday it’s not even funny. Now I’m properly spacing booms, using command normals to control space, finishing out rounds. I love this Guile
Starting to get it a bit more now but I find it very tricky sometimes I won’t get the link and the SB comes out , sometime in get the link and the SB doesn’t come out lol
Probably a silly question. I know lots of people are hyping up the V Trigger combo “loop” but if I mostly stick to fundamentals, patient offensive/defensive play, and simpler/less intensive combos I should still be able to do well with Guile Id think if I stuck to this play style?
I’ve been practicing that one as well; I’m trying to start with something relatively simple that will work anywhere on the screen, then the harder stuff will come with time.
Also, to whomever mentioned 5Hp being -4 means it is only useful for punishes, I don’t really agree. You can make it safe if you use it as a meaty too (I’ve been having a fair amount of success using it this way). It is a shame that it isn’t plus, but I still don’t agree that it is only good as a punish.
you don’t need combos to play guile well, look at me
Ive been playing guile pretty decent for 3 years in SF4 until I finally learned some combos lol
If you follow my cfn I rarely use any loops, just throw well spaced SBs and always be ready to AA and you should be fine
The fact that you judge me being super silver shows me that nothing that what you say means anything. Alioune has 65 LP and is one of the best in the world. Granted I’m no alioune at all. But I’ve been super silver since I stopped playing ranked at the end of March. In real world terms I’m going evenish offline with people that play a lot of ranked and have anywhere between 6-8k LP (with my main)… Not that LP matters with the way ranked has all the ragequitters which is why I don’t play ranked in the first place. I’ve played trash that have 9k LP.
