[Guild Wars 2]

Looks nice.

Taken from the FAQ page. http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/#forty-nine

“The first BWE is currently planned for late April, and we expect to have one every month or so. The schedule is subject to change and will be confirmed at a later date. Currently, we do not know how many of these events we will have.”

Anyone playing the Beta this weekend? Have everything downloaded and ready here. I really like how they built the file structure for the game, one do it all executable and all the game files packed into one large .dat file.

I’m guessing launch won’t be until after July. Which is fine, gives me enough time to play D3 and then switch over to some GW2 whenever I get tired of grinding boss runs with the Chinese loot farmers.

I lost all interest for GW2 and I don’t even know why… I will not be playing it mainly because I’m a 1 game kind of guy. It’s gonna be either D3 or PoE. Most likely D3 because there will be a lot more people playing it.

What about thieves that don’t have stealth at all then? (Well basically?)

Nothing at all wrong with that. I rarely attacked from Stealth in WoW. Went with a hemorrhage swords build and caught people off guard with a instant face rape when they were expecting me to drop to stealth… and circle behind. Nope! Forget all that. Take it! In the mouth.

I like stealing.

I just got the client downloaded and I’m waiting for the weekend beta to start. The weekend beta starts a noon PDT. Looks like I have to ditch some classes…

Opted not to pre purchase the game. I don’t want to ruin the first experience I’ll have with the game when it comes out in full like I did with Diablo 3.

Hoping for decent feedback from people who pre-purchased for beta. I’m mostly just concerned about controls/movement/feel and the pvp system though.

It’s honestly pretty stunning.

There’s a problem right now that the starting areas are seriously zerged so you don’t get as much out of the events as you might right now, but still.

My bro’s playing this right now and I’m not. :frowning:

My FPS is in the teens. Sometimes it’ll drop under 10 with a lot of people on screen spamming attacks. It rarely ever breaks 30 unless I’m alone somewhere secluded. Granted the PC isn’t top of the line but it runs every other game fine (probably because they’re all console ports LOL). I’m going to chalk this one up for the game not being optimized yet and will get better by launch. Last time I ran a game that was under 30 fps was The Witcher 2, but that’s because it was TW2.

I don’t really have impressions yet, last time I played an MMO was about 7 years ago and that was FFXI. Not really sure WTF I’m doing yet. I did make a porn star looking Norn however.

this game is fun, i loved part 1 a whole lot, was waiting to finally play this, im having alot of fun, currently got a lvl12 charr warrior. dual wielding axes seems to put out the most aoe damage. there is tons of server lag, so playing is difficult at times. my only gripe is it feels like it took alot from WoW. it warped what made gw1 uniqe and threw it out the window making it a more convential mmo. but overall i feel its better than WoW and more fun than gw1 so they did a good job.

Well considering how every other MMO following WoW tried to be successful yet original, they all failed for the most part. Tbh, I’m hoping for this game to feel more like WoW as far as fluidity and movement are concerned. Is the UI in GW2 customizable in any way? Any word about mods?

i got to play it for like an hour yesterday. this game is fun but my computer isn’t taking the game well especially when there’s like 20 or more people all bunched up in one area aiming for a boss.

Custom UI’s are specifically forbidden to my understanding, mods as well.

I’ve gotta think it plays a fair bit different, all that jumping out of AE’s.

Got to play it this weekend for a good couple of days. I followed zero news or media about it up until now, so all of my knowledge came from GW1 experiences.

Very disappointed in the lack of cross classes and the near infinite PvP setups and skill combos you could create. That was a largest aspect of the game i enjoyed.
My first impression of the game is that it feels a lot more like a new WoW expansion than anything like guild wars. The structured pvp feels like clusterfuck battlegrounds where you just click red names and respawn and nothing like the tactical teamfights of GW. Largely due to there being no healer class and not one single spell in the game that can target allies. Ugh

I will say there is potential with WvWvW.
I dont think it’s a bad game. I think GW2 is a very very different game that has none of the things i liked about GW1. Ill give it a month or so after release to make any real conclusions about it, but right now i dont like the game at all.

Beta Impressions:
15:29 - Vulpes: PvP wise, forget it. I expected badness, but this even surprises me. You spend half the game running with neither allies nor enemies nearby, then the other half there are 10 people on the screen at the same time, and due to DAMAGE NUMBER and effect overload its impossible tosee anything. literally.
15:30 - Vulpes: also ranged characters can shoot while moving, backrolls travel farther distance than forward rolls, siderolls of everyone travel farther than the warriors does, and most chars got added mobility skills like a teleport or someshit
15:31 - Vulpes: long story short melees are worthless
15:31 - Vulpes: i think it actually hurts to try to play
15:32 - Vulpes: mashing buttons wildly and then teleporting away when a melee is close to you seems to be the best tactic, and unlike like reversal mashing, i doubt this is going to change
15:32 - Vulpes: simply because its not possible to understand whats going on on the screen
15:33 - Vulpes: anyhow well pvp wise i expected it to be bad, and it being even worse is… owell shit happens

15:34 - Vulpes: general note: they didnt have a fuckin idea of how many people were going to login (big surprise really! they totally didnt know how many accounts got created!)
15:34 - Vulpes: friday it took 3 hours to log in
15:34 - Vulpes: and was hyper laggy
15:34 - Vulpes: thats fixed at leas

15:40 - Vulpes: PvE wise their note of revolutionizing the MMO genre is a joke. it plays basically exactly like WoW.
The difference is:
WoW: You see a house. Guy in front of the house as a quest “Centaurs are attacking me , pls go kil 10 centaurs”. then you walk a bit and kill 10 centaurs, go back and quest done.
GW: You see a house. EVENT pops up, which means 10 centaurs are stomping towards the house. you kill the 10 centaurs, and event is autodone.

now this would feel “better” if at least it had any effect. like, if you fail ,the house actually gets destroyed and you have to help repair it or something.
but no its classic mmo thing, if you win theyre dead, if you lose they run away afterwards and everything stays the same. 5 minutes later same event happens again.

also per city / place / etc its hyper repetitive, theres always one event “Kill things” one event “clean things” (which menas you run around and press F when near smth ‘bad’ then its fixed. theres not enough bad things so you have to wait in the area for it to respawn)

15:44 - Vulpes: Also there’s a “glitch” …

  1. You get XP for traveling to new areas
  2. You get bonus XP for discovering “points of interest” and waypoints
  3. This is A LOT of XP
  4. Enemy runspeed is 1:1 as fast as yours (actually a bit slower since they cant roll)
  5. Enemies in 99% of places dont have cripple (and if they do you can roll dodge, or just stay alive because it only stays on for like 2 seconds)
=== You level ultra fast by never fighting anything and jus running from place to place

15:45 - Vulpes: Furthermore the only thing other than running which provides actual XP is the personalized storyline which happens to be ENTIRELY INSTANCED so you dont meet anybody ever while playing the game prettty much.

15:48 - Vulpes: oh and the difficulty curve is a joke, first 5 missions i did on ultra lag by just mashing 121212121212 without even seeing what happened on the screen and basically zoomed through the missions np, then suddenly they put a level6 quest (im lvl2-3 right now) in which is impossible without being lvl6 == gogo grind 3 levels + new equip
15:49 - Vulpes: then another 5 deadeasy missions and another “youll have to grind 3 levels before this” one

15:51 - Vulpes: further note they scale your level if you go to old places which is ~not bad, but they actually scale it TOO LOW.
15:51 - Vulpes: I’m lvl8, doing a supposed “lvl6” quest and then they scale my level down to 5
15:51 - Vulpes: ??

Other notes:

  1. WvWvW is unplayable right now since it’s full (been in waiting queue for the past 2 hours)
  2. There’s some teleport for others; either a game thing or a skill. While in the WvWvW outpost (and in queue), I suddenly popped into some hole which there is no escape from.
  3. There are invisible districts. If area is full, they create the same area again and call the 2nd (and possibly multiple ones) ‘overflow’. Don’t know what difference this makes. You can’t switch from base area to overflow (or other way round), so if one of your mates is in overflow and you’re in base area, you can’t play with each other. At least they added a note for that with a patch; when game was fresh out they didn’t have that so I spend half an hour trying to figure out why I couldn’t play with my mates.

  • People who enjoy MMOs will enjoy GW2 probably. It’s the same stupid grindfest with no sense of balance or any semblance of actually playing as any other of these.
  • It has nothing to do with GW1 other than the name and some old guys in the story (you fight ghosts of Duke Barradin and shit)
  • PvP is the worst PvP I ever played
  • Melees are worthless (not only in PvP) because they can’t utilize the five million dodge abilities without losing their damage

Yeah, game sucks.

i will say melees have it really bad, and charr warriors have it the worst. which is what i made. the charr starting area is like the hardest shit lol. you cant fight anything with melee at early levels, u just get 2 shotted by everything. i had to use bow and arrow till i started getting some gear and levels. then i switched to dual wielding axes. i do a shit ton of damage, i can atleast 1v1 or 1v2 stuff. i kind of dont like the scaling levels back when u go to an old area. i can understand why they did it, but shit you get scaled back too far like vulpes said. i will say i love the auction house, but since it was the beta that doesnt really work half the time, but being able to sell stuff from anywhere is good. but the bad thing is…there is no crafting place next to a trading post. so if you want to pick up money or items u bought from the auction house while ur crafting, i have to waste money to go to a waypoint for the auction house(trading post), then waste money to go back to the waypoint you were at where the crafting stations are set up…shit is kind of retarded.

overall i am enjoying the game tho. i love the crafting and finding out new recipes instead of having to search or buy them like WoW. and i love the events, it feels like random mini raids. so far i have a lvl18 char warrior. oh, and guns are OP, that is all.
