fuck a legendary
roll in 20-40g exotics for life
Fuck exotics, I roll around in 2g-4g rares. Or in my guardian’s case, I roll around in 50s uncommons.
damn I need to step up my armor game.
i really hate wearing the exact same thing every other warrior is wearing but the level of detail on cof armor is really something compared to everything else.
this is my “man mode” (100% berserker, melee everything) gear that i run around in dungeons with.
thats enough playing dressup for a while. i gave up finding a helmet they all suck.
so i want to get a mesmer to 80 really quick, but i dont really feel like leveling it up normally. my idea is have someone run me through my personal story and then craft the rest of the way. what other ways can i get exp really really fast?
Wish I can get uber lucky with loot or something and get a ton of gold.
I want Charr t3 q_q.
These new events are distracting everyone away from the dungeons. I wanted to farm CoF today but it was contested and there were only like 3 people in front of it. -_-
Someone needs to fire whoever thought it was a good idea to make 99% of medium armor fucking coats and pants. Can a man get some variety?
I actually like the coats, in fact my Sylvari Thief looks pretty Tron-like with the shit I got her, what took a long time though was finding gear that didn’t me look like a fucking pirate. The level 80 medium exotic i don’t like, makes you look like Shredder!
yea shit is lame as hell. had alot more variety gearing my ele as opposed to my thief.
I like quite a few of them actually but there’s barely any small vests or items in general that don’t have skirts/battle skirts (battle skirts are also an issue with heavy armor but there’s a good chunk of variety there). There’s (I think) one set of shorts and they’re norn cultural armor (they show a bit of butt cheek), a bunch of the pants have almost no detail at all and anything that does is pretty much “sexy” armor (exotic duelist legs, T3 human legs, vigil legs, norn wolf T1 (might be T2) legs, norn T3 legs, maybe 1 or 2 others).
A lot of the long coats also have a bunch of daggers, blades and a bunch of thief-related stuff. I can see some of them working on a ranger (skinning knives or something) but there’s not a lot of choice if you want an engineer-ish look so it makes getting themed looks for my medium armor characters much harder than it needs to be.
Also dying items on medium armor can be a pain sometimes. A few items just have very crappy dye areas, which don’t let you dye the trimmings of the armor but instead just dye the whole area (I’m looking at you prowler gear).
Yes, playing dress-up and coloring pixels is serious business .
Oh and don’t get me started on items that hide gloves/boots…
Human T3 assassin chest armor has some underboob action going on. For 30 gold… They make you work for that underboob.
Damn right it’s serious busines, I’m an aesthetic whore! I actually can’t wait until the total makeover kit is implimented so I can play barbie with my thief - there’s a few things I rushed in character creation that I would really like to change about her appearance.
You know, my biggest complaint so far is how some utterly badass armor appears on male character models, yet suddenly turns into some god-awful slutty bikini top - if it says coat, it should be a fucking coat, some cheap lingerie with fishnet. Most of my thief gear is actually transmuted from much lower level base models for their looks, some of the higher level stuff just looks terrible. I’ve got quite a nice cyberpunky/tron look going with my Sylvari and I’m using Glyphic transmuted weapons for looks.
Completely agree with you on the crappy dye locations as well, some of them feel really bodged together like no effort was really made. I’ve also noticed that depending on the actual model set of armors (ie their family - rawhide, noble, whatever) the dyes can actually end up having completely different hues than they are supposed to, leaving a really mismatched set overall sometimes.
I did quite like one of the female medium armors, maybe it’s a hume cultural one, I’m not sure, but it basically looks like you’re Nina from Tekken.
Anyone got build they’re liking right now? I wanted to break from the normal D/D P/P thief that does death blossom spam until they remember heartseeker; instead, I opted for a P/D build and stacked monsterous amounts of condition damage, poison skills and trait bonuses and 45% bleed duration from full Carrion gear and runes and it’s a fucking beast in WvW, not to mention the ability to solo some Orrian Champions, thief is fast becoming my favourite class and is my go-to for PvP and WvW - condition removal will not save you!
EDIT
Do we have a server list that everyone is on? I’m on Tarnished Coast, 90% of time you can find me in WvW owning Dragonbrand and Fort Aspenworth this month.
I too am an aesthetic whore. Anything that looks good; I’ll play. The only reason I actually have a Charr in the first place is because of how awesome T3 looks like.
As for Thief builds, no idea. I did however find an amazing dungeon support build for Engineers. It focuses on keeping your group condition free while providing heals with Elixir Gun.
I didn’t really mean Thief builds, just whatever builds you’re using right now.
Good to know that I’m not the only aesthetics whore here! Those makeover kits need to be released ASAP. I know that buying gems with cash isn’t that good of a deal but I’ve been leveling 5 characters so I haven’t been farming for cash/ori or any of that stuff for the past week or so. My 20g is now down to 10 or so from buying cosmetic gear for my alts.
I agree with the armors drastically changing appearances, it would be nice just to have skimpy armor for both genders and then the covered up gear. My female human thief is shamelessly going for that underboob armor though (when I have the gold).
From what I have noticed some gear seems to have its own texture and material already on it which is what affects the hue. Trying to use metallic dyes on heavy armor that has leather on it will make the color way off and you either have to invest in different hues, find natural leather dyes or vibrant dyes with the hue you want (and pray that it looks good). It would be nice for the dye areas to specify the material (as well as being able to dye gear individually from the preview window, the current system makes it hard to get new gear since you don’t know how many dye areas there are and such).
I decided that I want all of my characters to play differently (and use different weapons when possible) so this is what I have at the moment.
Warrior (80) - Glass canon GS/rifle build for facerolling. Press 2, hit for 15k+, go home. Love my plank of destruction.
Engineer (73) - Tanky Flamethrower/Elixir gun burning based build with perma swiftness/vigor.
Necro (41) - Going to see if I can modify the Mr. Freeze build for PvE which shouldn’t be too hard. This one is cripple/chill based with extended condition durations I believe.
Ranger (52) - Beastmaster, pet hits hard, pet kills stuff. I guess this is similar to my Warrior, whatever.
Thief - (26) Haven’t looked into this but I want to play a poison/stealth heavy build. I was actually really sad when P/D wasn’t very good in PvE (only level 26 but going straight up D/D and P/P was vastly better).
Elementalist (65) - Not sure yet. This class has a bunch of options but none of them have really clicked. Maybe I’ll just go scepter Earth and press 1 to kill everything.
Ele can run full berserker using a crit build and still be very survivable for dungeons due to having vigor up a lot with scepter. Even with dagger and the vigor crit trait you can pretty much have perma vigor for a fight. If you take focus for utility and survivability you can do stuff like reviving in the middle of those alpha circles in coe. Taking ice bow is very good if you use it like a quick wep swap then go back. Get good amount of prec and you can 1.5k-2.5k per hit (and you usually get around 8-10 hits, sometimes more on a boss. Small targets still get hit around 5 times) depending on the dungeon and enemy. Only press 3 and 4 for the cripple and aoe then switch to your normal skill set. Pick up other ice bow when needed or let someone else use 4 on structures and for aoe. Ice bow 4 is pretty much the most damaging aoe in the game if used correctly in a short time frame (I’ve remember comparing this skill against stuff like grenades and arrow shower and it does more damage than both of those skills unless you were hitting a chicken or you totally missed the aoe. I wish Anet had a damage parser to see how much it really does). I remember in wvwvw, a group of people were defending this one pass and they were building a catapult, so I ran in and used earth skin and hit them with ice bow 4 downing some of them and instantly taking down the catapult. The skill also makes killing mounds and a lot of small gravelings a joke, and you can carry bad people through those parts with it.
If you want to be a good support you should take evasive arcana trait (to finish your fields) and use staff. Now you basically the best healer in the game and keep parties rather healthy easily or you can be a bunker and very very hard to kill in pvp. You do no damage but you still have utility through stuns, blinds, cripples, and chills if you want your teammates to help win a fight. I don’t like staff in general because it’s doesn’t feel fun to do bad single target damage and trying to support people. Plus you have to have good aim to heal people because many people panic when they see aoes at their feet at low health, even if you are trying to pop a heal and roll into it to make a combo. People should combo more often, and it really does make a dungeon run smoother if people coordinate like that.
I’ve been trying a prec d/d water/air build (0/30/0/30/10) and it seems to work well atm. It’s nice that a lot of the stuff does aoe. Lightning whip is pretty good now. In pve, I’ve been testing crits with it in a berserker build and I do 1.7k +1.7k whips 25% of the time, and 1.7k + 600 50% of the time, and 600 + 600 25% of the time. If I pop fury I do the double crit 49% of the time. Cone of cold also got a buff which is nice, because it can accumulate to around 3.5k-5k depending how many times you crit and it heals nice. Still need to try it in pvp. I can see the improved aoe targeting on skills can definitely help dagger users clear things like mesmer illusions now.

Here’s my thief PvE build. It seems to work well while I pug CoF although that’s not saying much. I tried to get as much utility from my skills as possible and I feel like I can pretty much do a bit of every role (control, dps, support)
For sPvP I’ve been using Sword/Pistol despite the fact that Pistol Whip got nerfed (-15% damage iirc). I want to change to CnD/Backstab since it seems to be the new flavor of the month or something.
I’m playing on Blackgate. Haven’t played WvW since my guild is pretty much just my friends/bro irl.
Ah I see.
Anyhow, this is the build I’m running for my engi. It is IMO the closest thing to a full support; engineer-wise at least.
The only difference is that I prefer to use Static Discharge over Kit Refinement since I’m mostly running around with the elixir gun than my pistols.
i do glass cannon gs/axe+shield for pretty much everything. ultimate man mode.
whee
ive gotten 25k before as well as a 12k in AC explorable (wtf 12k at level 35 loool)
i can play other builds (condition damage, shout heals, hammer) but i find the above to be the most fun and rewarding. survivability is fine if you treat everything like a ____ souls game. enemies hit pretty infrequently and you have 5 ways to avoid damage (2 dodges, gs 3 evade everything, shield skills, shield block) before you have to kite and wait for cds.
in wvw i just build full tanky now because fuck running back. i seriously don’t see how people have fun in wvw…okay your zerg runs over a few people, you run into a bigger zerg and die…spend a year running back…ok now we got 2 zergs plinking at each other with ranged skills trying to kill one or 2 guys.
Following the zerg isn’t fun, it’s pretty mindless. I find it a lot more enjoyable to hunt down smalls groups who are flipping sentries/supply camps or just trolling them in their own skill points and puzzle areas, but then I might as well be playing PvP for that.
