everything gets compressed at the end.
however, with the quality of his caps - they can be processed and cleaned up with avisynth. capturing in MJPEG keeps it nice and clean almost identical to what is being seen at the time of the cap.
avisynth processing coupled with vdub and xvid (or h/x.264 if wanted) can make the outputted file look a lot better than the initial cap.
i just viewed one of his raw caps 400+megs for a 3 minute clip (5Mbps quality during capture) - it looks like a bad cable box input cap to be honest. i notice lots of interlacing (easily cleaned up) and some other filters that can make it look very clean at half that size with XviD or h/x.264.
i’ll post the scripts and procedures i use later on for anyone interested.
and yes, i agree - with hardware like the hauppage HD PVR - there is really nothing needed except trimming your file with like ts cutter or something. however, there are still lots of older recording setups out there. and it’s fun to work with scripts and avs+vdubmod for me :tup:
