Guide for streaming with the Hauppauge HD PVR!

can i get your opinion?
is this setup inferior to the one you suggest on the first post?

====== | xbox | ====== | xbox component | ========== ====================== ======== | Hauppage | --------Component----------| Component -HDMI converter | ------HDMI-------| Monitor | ========== ====================== ======== | USB | ======= | Laptop | =======

That setup has the PVR running right from the console and using pass through and then through another converter which will add lag and degrade picture quality. That setup is pretty backwards from what you want.

ahh ok thanks for the response.
if anyone else has additional input i’d appreciate it. im just starting out right now with no experience. hoping to start streaming sessions on twitch.tv
i just need to order the hdmi splitter and hdmi converter now.

Hey guys i’m trying to how can i stream at a high quality without it looking pixelated and moving at a good speed. My specs are 1.87ghz, 8gb and 64 bit operating system. Also i’m a bit confuse on a couple of things with wirecast in regards to the encoder preset and output format. I have it on encoder preset - Flash low bandwidth and on output format - Flash.

Is those settings okay or should i put it on something else? Also i have the aspect ratio on NTSC 3:2 [720 X 480]. Should i change it to another aspect ratio or is it okay on that?

Here’s a link to my stream where you can see F.C Jago, Fab that plays tekken, RayRay, Smooth Viper, Chris Matrix and others playing MvC 3 - http://www.twitch.tv/bum163/b/297883655

I think you have to have a pretty good computer with a pretty good processor to run WC efficiently. I haven’t been able to get a good enough looking stream with WC on my computer. But mine isn’t that great, so I just use xSplit. I wish I could run it though, WC is nice.

The thing is on wirecast…I lack some info on some of the setttings. I’m using Flash low bandwidth and idk if the aspect ratio is what also affects the stream quality.

  1. You should set the aspect to 1080p, it wont make it look drastically better but atleast better than what you’re currently running.

  2. You need to set the bitrate higher, flash low bandwith will look bad. However this is based purely on your internet upload speed. Needs to be high enough to support higher bitrate.

I just did speedtest.net and my ping is 10ms. My download speed was 11.57 Mbps and my upload speed was 2.10 Mbps. So what should i change the flash low bandwidth into? The encoder preset i know nothing about nor the output format.

Thanks for this guide; looks like I’ll be changing my setup a bit soon. I’m not particularly interested in streaming, but I am interested in doing away with the lag I put up with just for the ability to record. I hadn’t thought to go the HDMI splitter route, or rather, I hadn’t thought such a thing could actually work well.

Is there any 1x3 splitter you recommend? Having a head to head setup sounds nice…

The same company makes a 1x3 splitter. What’s cool is you can run dual monitors while streaming to get that Japanese arcade feel.

Hey what are some good decent mic for a mixer or usb headset? Also can I run two usb headset without mixer and would that interfere with anything?

can anyone recommend a good external webcam? is the sound good enough if i use a webcam with the built in microphone?

I use 2 logitech c210 cameras. They are under 20 bucks a piece on amazon. I wouldn’t recommend using built in speakers though for commentary. Not if you’re looking for a high quality stream.

I also use a Logitech c310, the quality under low light is really good and frame rate is great as well

First off, I need to say thanks for the guide and all the posts in this thread making it extremely helpful. I do have a question though: When using TotalMedia Extreme 2 it chops off the left side of my video when I’m displaying 720p from my PS3. How do I fix this issue and have it display the full picture? Set up is the same as the one outlined in the OP.

EDIT: It seems like this is a problem with the actual HDMI to Component converter itself. Anyone know one that doesn’t do this?

I’ve got a problem using the pvr and the behringer 502 mixer. Here is how I have the cables running:
Video = Xbox > PVR > component to tv and usb to pc
Audio = Xbox > TV > TV audio out > Mixer > PC

Problem is that the audio comes through before the video. I’ve been using a program called Radio Delay to delay the audio signal and get it to sync up. However, I recently bought two webcams. Since I am running Radio Delay to fix the sync problems with the pvr setup, when I stream a webcam you see mouths move before the sound comes through.

I’ve tried running the wires all different ways but I can’t figure it out. The best method I can think of is to ditch the mixer altogether and just use two usb microphones and mix all of the sound on my pc through volume control. That way I could grab the audio straight from the pvr and it would be in sync.

Video = Xbox > PVR > Component to tv and usb to pc
Audio = Xbox > PVR > PC - 2 USB Mics and mix sound via volume mixer

How do the people using a mixer and a pvr solve the delay issues? Especially when broadcasting a webcam as well?

First of all, when you run your console straight through the pvr and then to the tv/computer it automatically causes delay. You’re going to have to split the signal from your console so it doesn’t run through the pvr. Since you’re splitting the audio off separately, its not being delayed through the pvr I have everything you’ll need to do this in the op!

Which converter are you using? The one I recommended I can use with ps3 no problem.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SFT3ZI/ref=oh_o00_s00_i01_details This one right here. Some of the reviews are saying the same thing, their image is pushed to the left when they’re using it to display on whatever device.

I’ve tried different HDMI cables through the HDMI Splitter, and even going straight into the converter box itself but get the same result. Only when using 480p does it not push the image over.

Hmmm, that’s odd. It’s the same one I’m using. I’ll have to run some test when i get home to see if I can come up with the same result.
And it may just be that particular converter. Try sending it back for another.
