I haven’t seen this posted anywhere yet. If Ryu does a sweep, he can just hold up-forward and he gets a safe jump. The frames just add up to where he just gets a safe jump without thinking or having to try to time anything on anyone in the game who has a standard wake-up time.
I was messing around with Gief and noticed his longkick does the same thing. It’s negative as hell on block, but it’s used a lot in o-s. It’s got like 14 frames of start-up, so even though it has 7 active frames I only ever seem to hit on the first frame cause I keep getting safe jumps from it. I don’t know how invincible backdashes are, but they seem to run out by the time the move first goes active. I was able to safe jump (but not safe jump o-s, just safe jump) both Guile’s flash kick and Ken’s medium punch dp, which are both 4 frames. It requires no thought or timing, only that you just hold up-forward after the sweep.
I’m sorry if this is common knowledge and I just missed the memo. But I just figured this out and thought I’d share. It seems to work on the same people that Ryu’s sweep’s safe jump works on. Pretty much anyone with a standard wake-up time that has a 4 frame reversal, but I think you need 6 frame reversals to o-s? Maybe 5 to o-s? Not sure how that works, but you at least get a free jump-in on the 4 framers.
Nah, it’s a safe jump that you don’t have to time.
If you hit someone with longkick, just hold up-forward so Gief jumps as early as possible. Then on the way down, do a jump-in normal. It’ll be a safe jump on any character with a normal get-up time and a 4+ frame reversal.
Faster? I couldn’t get the j.fierce to even hit Cammy or Sagat when I tried it, so I assumed that they got up 1 frame slower than the others I tried. I mean, it would’ve made more sense for them to get up faster since they have 5 frame DPs, but I couldn’t hit them at all.
