Nah, Takamura is fine, him losing would actually detract from his character in my opinion.

ANYWAY. I don’t think Kenichi has that much plot armor either. His training at ryouzanpaku is basically getting stomped on 24/7 to build endurance, and he did have a late start in training compared to every other character in the series, but he is also ALWAYS training so I can’t really feel that he doesn’t deserve it.
Most of his wins make sense, and he loses more than other shonen protags (ryuuto, shou, muay guy), and when he does win against someone that should have been stronger its because he exploited something specific.
What manga is this kenichi from? Trying to go back through this whole thread sounds daunting.
All he does is outlasting his opponents, when they also add the concept of mixing dou and sei like Odin and that 9 fist guy did, which dramatically reduce their capacity for longer fights.
But seriously, I would like if Miu had more screentime instead of having been regulated to “lel girls should not fite”, less trope bs from the main character and the manga overall, better villains and less fan-service.

A big part to why Kenichi wins is that he always runs to his masters when he comes across an opponent he can’t handle, describes their fighting style to them and of course the masters know what it is and teach Kenichi how to counter it.
It’s like having martial arts tech support.

I dont think Ipppo has plot armor. Kamogawa is clearly building on Ippo’s strengths though. But a lot of times it seems both him and Kamogawa are boneheaded on not noticing things.

I dont think Ippo should have lost vs Sawamura. Sawamura made the mistake of playing with his food, and he paid the price.
The fact that Ippo is still alive after his fight with Sawamura screams plot armor.
Re-Read Ippo vs Woli and Ippo Vs Gedo and say that again.
Word. Gedo has too much matchup experience to have gotten shook by one punch, and Woli shouldn’t have gotten totally stopped by a body blow. Ippo bullshat his way through those two fights in particular.
