Only ultra will go underneath a lot of people jumping at you. LK tatsu won’t.

If you have the meter, Super activated with jab functions like a Ryu fierce DP. Doesn’t have as many problems with the jump in angle that the Ultra has, but depends on whether you want to spend the meter on it.

For the most part, but the times that you have EX are far more than the times that you have Ultra. The spacing has to be correct for EX Tatsu to land properly, but once you get it down it gives you an extra option to reset your zoning game. Aside from whiffing when it does hit… another downside is overlap with kongo… there are several opportunities to walk under oppoents who try to cross you up and tatsu but the overlap gives you kongo instead :frowning: You are forced to rely on auto correct-- and that’s another topic within itself. It sucks b/c someone like Geif will try to cross me and I have to rely on cr. FP after I walk under vs. Tatsu (EX) since it can catch him and send him to the other side of the screen. You can go to neutral then tatsu or half circle back so the game doesn’t confuse the inputs but 3 or 4 extra frames to compensate makes a 6 frame start up move a 9-10 frame move… not good at all.

One of the major uses of EX Tatsu AA (which Shine used extensively) was to have an invincible AA so that if they jumped over your fireball you could still AA them even though you don’t have time for a cr.hp. You can use kongoshin the same way (this is one of the best times to use kongoshin as an AA because people will think that they can punish your fireball, which they usually can’t). EX tatsu and kongoshin make Gouken’s fireball trap really sick. Who gives a crap if not all of the hits of EX Tatsu connect? As long as you don’t get punished on hit the free damage and training your opponent is totally worth a meter.

Ultra doesn’t work usually because it’s too slow. They land and block.

You’d be suprised how many people under estimate his FB Recovery and Kongo is 1 Frame. A Tatsu method I use against Balrog’s Rushes is cr. lp > EX Tatsu, 1st hit cancels armor and the second hit is the EX HK 2 in 1 with invincibility.

I try doing something good with gouken these times (my main is Gouki). I’ve record 2 random matches yesterday.
Could you give me some more tricks, or way to use him better? (i make lot of mistakes in the videos. I have to learn my opponent before using kongo well…)

nice looking gouken, it looks like u have a good idea of the character/ Just a couple things, you should follow your fb hits with palm and there is really no reason to cancel your normals into parry. i have an idea of what you are trying to accomplish there but if they do dp its gonna be a reversal and they are going to break that kongo. i like how you were able to effectively use the tatsu fadc into ultra on reaction. I USED to try it often but since im holding back and then react i would consistently get low counter so i decided it wasnt worth it for me to try cause of the overlap. Lastly, when you tried that dash ultra had you held forward for just a step you would have connected the 3 hit ultra. idk what happened there when you missed though, it looked like you were gonna get multi no problem. hmm, ill have to look at it again and see wtf happened there.

For normal cancel into parry, it’s just a trap. Usually (and it happened twice in those videos), when opponent sees me doing a missing parry, he just push a button to punish me. I dont know why, but i guess its a human reaction :smiley: just like gouki, if you’re very close, and do 2HK on his guard on purpose. He tried to punish you, but eats ultra :wink:

to do tatsu on reaction, just go in neutral position. I had the same problem at the beginning.

And for the missed ultra, i just wanted to do the multi-hit. It would kill my opponent. But i think i was just too far :frowning:

going to neutral is easier said than done. In the past when i have made the contious effort to go to neutral first i was always too late with my tatsu. but, as i saw, it can be done, just need faster reaction speed.i guess ill take another crack at incorperating it into my game. Its a really good combo to do, just the risks are high. Ill add it to the list of things ill be working on. Im still trying to get that IAT down. i either go too high in the air or get jump back kick.

The multi would have killed him, but i think hk tatsu would have as well. I like to weigh that kind of thing out to where if tatsu will not kill and i need the kill and have enough life so i can live if i miss, ill go for the ultra, otherwise tatsu or palm. However, if i could be more consistant with that then i would do ultra everytime. I re-looked at the video, i have to agree with you that you were too far away, cause it looked like ryu was at the perfect height and thats the only explanation that makes any kind of sense to me. Nice attempt though.

sometimes, lk tatsu FADC ultra…the ultra goes behind the opponent. Thats really annoying :frowning:

[]If you think they’re gonna DP FADC on their wakeup do an EX Demon Flip right when they wake up. It will make their DP whiff and then you can punish if you whiff throw. I’ve made Ken’s EX DP whiff this way. And if they don’t do it then they still have to deal with the demon flip.

]Always cancel cr.hp into hado on block, it’s unsafe otherwise.
[]AA cr.hp/cr.mk xx lk/mk Demon Flip is good. If they love to reversal DP then you can do a hk Demon Flip as a bait to make them whiff.

Can’t believe you missed the Ultra on the dash… I thought for sure that would hit. Is it possible to do TOO fast? lol I always thought that if Ryu wasn’t on screen you would hit the 3 hit, obviously that’s wrong.

I suck ass at the dash ultra for some reason. I can dash tatsu and sweep just fine but I never hit that ultra for some reason. Really nice gouken btw, I clapped for your reaction tatsu FADC ultra

That match with Shirl was ridiculous.

Also great Gouken vryu! For someone who doesn’t main the character, you still played very solid.

Other than failing to dash in to take advantage of that scrub Gief’s PPP lariats, that was about as smartly as one could play in that matchup. I hope that Gief quits the game forever.

Yeah that was me I hope they put the Sagat Vs Gouken match up I had with smooth viper. That was actually my first tourny I ve been to, trust it wont be my last. It was a great experience even though I lost to Jeron Graysons Bison (Which is Godlike) in winners bracket and a fei long in the losers bracket. I cant wait for the next Battlefield Arcadia Tourny Im going to be on my A- Game next time for sure. Also Shot out to Tri force because hosting tournys like that is not easy

Overall that was good stuff, the last Ultra combo was freaking ridiculous and very embarassing for the recipient. I think the first time you caught him with it, you could have just used palm or tatsu and saved your EX Bars for the next round. It was great to see, but it put you in a position where Zangief had 3 EX Bars and you had 0 to start the match :frowning: Gauge Management can go along way, just something to think about, other than that… NICE.

osiris, why do you use fadc > j.mp single hit > ultra?
is it just for style?
