well he’s right. there was nothing amazing other than he did a lot of missed FA’s and rushdown. i think that’s why it seemed exciting to watch
He teched most of them
kara’d every back throw. Worst part is I actualle missed like 2-3 shin shoryu openings that tourney…
I’ll post a better match later, hopefully even though I win some ppl can tell me what to do different etc. !
It’ might take a while since I didn’t record it
But the next match will be better… Promise ^^
That player WAS just rather lackluster. If somebody posts videos from gamechariot for SRK members, usually the player is incredible, or at least close to it. That Gouken didn’t have much of a grasp on execution, and played fairly erratically. As pootnannies said, he basically just whiffed a ton of FA’s. He’d get broken up by 2000 BP players on XBLA, and that’s not exactly what I’d expect to see videos of coming from Gamechariot. I’m not trying to be an elitist dick (this time). I’m just pointing out that anybody looking for sound strategies needs to be fairly discerning about where they get their information.
I’m putting gameplay vids of myself from last night. Didn’t include many losses since my losses were pretty terrible to look at. General gameplay last night was pretty terrible to look at since I haven’t played Gouken in almost a week(was playing Guile). My ground game was non-existant and I jumped too much.
Only 1 video up so far but I’m encoding and upping a bunch more now.
They were all ranked matches where I’m at around 2200-2500BP with search set to Equal Skill.
Watching these vids makes me realize how lacking my gameplay was last night.

This is just a couple gameplay videos. Not great play, but this is how I see Gouken playing
Thanks for the vids!
I know you said you made alot of mistakes, but this gave me some nice ideas. Thanks.
To be fair, his opponent was horrible, Dan or no Dan. I’ve actually played and had my ass handed to me a few times by a very aggressive Dan as Gouken. Of course once I learned what I was doing wrong in that matchup things changed to my favor, but it was as never as lopsided as in that video.
I like the dashes after a mp fireball. Are you doing those on reaction or just anticipation after the fireball if you think they are going to jump? Never knew you could actually catch them with a palm after knocking them out of the air that far away.
I’m doing it as soon as I see them jump, because once they do, I know the fireball will hit. I do the palm a lot even when it’s not going to hit - I’m trying to get a feel for when it will and won’t hit on instinct, and this is the best way I know.
Hello again
If someone care to help meg out another vid
Please ? hehe, the good and ofc the bad!
Need to improve my Gouken
I have also started finding use for FB -> senku. Often, when an opponent blocks or evades a fireball, he will advance. If you fly after a fireball with a senku, you can often catch them off guard.
Another point is that some players tend to jump backwards if they want to evade a horizontal FB (e.g. a noob’s fake straight). If you follow the fb with a senku, the edge of the screen will move with you, your fb will keep flying, and the backwards jumping opponent will land in your still flying fb. It’s more a gimmick than anything else, but it is funny when it happens.
Plus FB -> senku seems rather safe for the most part. Senku whiffs only at max distance, or when an opponent jumps over it (two things good players can avoid), and seems hard to punish on block.
Still experimenting and learning though, I liked those vids! Finally some decent Gouken footage. Seems that the strength of a Gouken player is mostly in knowing all of the other characters, reading your opponent, and reacting correctly to his/her moves. Which is sorta true for all characters, but even moreso for Gouken.
Seeing a Ryu doing a close range ultra on an uncomboed Gouken always makes me smile That counter is so deliciously brutal. Very nice rushdown in the second to last round btw, backthrow -> ultra is still sick.
My lord that was a fast reply
Thank you, anything else to add? Besides screwing up some combos and cursing
About FB, senku…
I just saw those vids here, do the FB have to hit them really high?
In corner if you “ume” (mp or fp) FB, Gouken get some insane options!
Nice gameplay. Learned a few tricks. Thanks!
great vids guys, i’m learning new stuff to try out all the time

That’s the playlist link, it’s just 6 vids. I figure I would youtube em for people to see what it’s like. After seeing DJB13’s vid I messed around with some corner games. I like to keep my EX, so for me those mid screen FADC reset’s I dunno if I would want to blow 3 EX stocks for a reset. I’d rather blow 3 ex stocks for FADC to Ultra if I land a mid screen ex senku combo. But the video gave me some ideas, so I went home and messed around with training mode. I also have been playing around with using Jump back roundhouse as cover for getaway. It’s pretty good imo.
Some tricks for Gouken
-
Jump Back roundhouse for getaway hits all standing opponents
-
It can even trade with Shoto DP
-
It can beat Sagat’s Tiger Uppercut
-
Corner mixup game
a. Stand Fierce reset into LK demon flip grab
b. Stand Fierce reset into MK cross over whiff demon throw to land quickly to back throw into ultra
c. Stand Fierce reset into MK cross over demon flip dive kick combo
Note: I like the stand fierce into MK demon flip whiff throw back throw reset better than just stand fierce reset back throw. It’s more confusing, it changes sides motion directions will possibly get messed up etc… And its confusing with character overlaps etc… since Gouken is also moving during the reset.
Edit: Also to add, you can do a fake crossup in the corner with a late reset and short kick demon flip instead of whats shown in 4c.
Also, going to play around with this setup. Fierce fireball, 1 hit jump strong, cr. strong reset. The cr. strong hits so low and the reset happens so fast its insane. I don’t have the timing down, and I’ve only tried it on Ryu. The crouch strong hits so low that actually you can juggle with a crouch roundhouse.
That is some amazing corner-play right there. I swear, the possibilities that come after you land the EX Palm Strike is limitless. I don’t know if it would be too much trouble for you, but would it be possible for you to list out the moves you did for the juggle combos (Kind of in a similar way that the Challenge Trial Modes display them) I’m trying to jot them down by looking at it visually, but some of the stuff happens so damn fast.
Also, were you the one who posted one video where Gouken used the EX Palm Strike followed by like, two Hadokens to juggle and then still managed to land a couple of s.Fierce on the guy while they were still in the air? I believe the video was called something along the lines of, “Reset to Dizzy”. If you are, could you give me a few pointers for that, because I can’t seem to juggle the guy for the death of me.
I don’t do ex fireball in the corner since I like to horde my ex in case I need to escape. I find fierce fireball sufficient enough for the use.
On the juggles:
4a: Close Stand Fierce, EX Senku, Fierce Fireball, Late close Stand Fierce(reset), Short Demon Flip grab.
4b: Everything the same up to the second close stand fierce reset, Medium Kick Demon Flip, Whiff the air grab late to instantly land, back throw, Ultra. Use juggle of choice if you don’t have Ultra.
4c: Everything the same except instead of whiffing a medium kick demon flip throw, do a crossup dive kick, crouch fierce, ex. senku, senku.
I’d like to add, I was unable to crossup Ryu on first player side corner. I didn’t wanna stay up too late and explore that more though since I had to get up for work the next morning.
Gouken is looking to be a pretty interesting character so far. I was reading the other thread where people were talking about how he was mostly considered mid at best, but these tricks and things are looking like he might be able to bust out of mid. Sweet and innovative stuff guys, I’ll try to incorporate this into my play.

Wow… 4:52 taught me something new to do off a back-thow! Back to the training room to get that one down…
