Yea its sad, Ryu is the student and Gouken is the master. Come on Ono, get your shit correct.

Hahahaha, there is no reason to choose Gouken now. Really, everything Gouken has, Ryu has and even better. I don’t know why they decided to put Gouken (AKA the sucky “master”) in this game. Go Ryu! Make scrubs even more happy!

Yeah, make him better than better because he is because canon should have anything to do with balancing a game! If the “story” had any impact on the game, every single shoryuken would instantly kill your opponent. Every single tatsumaki would rip people in half. Stop.

This, totally this. Only a number of ultras do look good and useable so far.

The only thing Gouken had going for him was his ultra?

More accurately, the reasons to pick Gouken haven’t changed. To say he’s lost appeal would be to imply that he’s lost something–which he hasn’t, he’s just gained nothing particularly special.

Yes.

Wow that went completely over you head. Read what people are saying instead of jumping the gun.

Has anyone noticed how much chip that was doing on Abel?

That’s certainly not to be sniffed at.

wow, yeah… that’s in the range of blanka’s chip damage in his current ultra.

seems like a good amount to me, but i wonder how it varies with how long you charge it for.

Is Gouken Vs. Abel the only vid that shows Gouken’s Ultra so far? I’m curious to know what the effect of that move is when it hits someone who isn’t blocking. As mentioned, that move does a staggering amount of chip so I want to see what the whole thing (Fully charged) would do to somebody

In the video I checked it didn’t do a lot of chip damage. Well as much as a throw I would say, but blanka’s does double. but goukens bar was half full, so it would do as much as blanka’s fully

Agreed with Phoenix, it should do something special too. And it says ‘‘Hold to CHANGE the effect’’ so maybe if you release it right away it does something different but less damage or w/e

If you could aim it with the stick while charging, that would lead to some sick corner traps.

Uh, and theres a difference between the two. you have to CHARGE Gouken’s in order to get that damage and chip. Or combo it in for measley damage. It combos far easier than U1, but not as damaging. Ono was there, and I was gonna ask him if he felt it being fully charged and unblockable woud have been too much? Small damage, massive stun?

That was max charge on Able btw.

During that charge theres alot of characters that can easily interupt it, something has to give. Why even charge it? Its just too risky at the moment.

Of course it would, think about it. It’s a free combo. Regardless of scaling, it’d be free damage on wakeup. It wouldn’t be in line with the philosophy or system of SF4.

Why even call it Denji then? What I was expecting is perhaps non-charge is blockable, fully charged is non-blockable. Why even have the charge when both versions are blockable? What are these properties that change that the game mentions? Are they even worth the charge? Call the dam thing Shinkuu Hadoken and call it a day then.

That’s like saying the backthrow is against the philosophy of SFIV since there are so many options that are practically guaranteed damage from it.

He could have benefitted from this new ultra in the sense that people would respect him on wakeup and back off once they see him with an ultra meter. I hope nobody here is forgetting that the character is almost free at point blank range.

No, because you can get out of a backthrow. Quite easily. The game gives you a tool and a way to get out of it.

Whereas there would be no system-defined tool that everyone on the roster could use to deal with an unblockable on wakeup.
