I don’t care if daigo himself uses Gou, whoever it is , they will have to defeat SHIN SHO to stand a chance! All of our Dojo sessions have us ahead of the mirror match curve for sure!
Im hoping he wont get spammed too much. Though i am very excited that the one character I have consistently played since vanilla is finally gonna be solid.
I feel the same way man been playing gouken since vanilla and Im very excited!!!
LOL aint that the truth Takin? Yo, I’m down today for another Dojo session. Hopefully there will be more Gouken players besides you and myself + some random Zangief player lol.
Tsk why care about a good player picking up yours as well, if he’s better he sets the standard for what you need to beat to take the top dawg place, might even bring some new insight to things the character can do, not to mention we might actually see him at tournaments now XD.
As for the bandwagon? Let them come, more people who enjoy the old man the better, might start seeing him in more games, spread that shin sho love The good ones will stay, the baddies will drop when they discover just how hard it is to be the Master.
I look forward to a new rival in Goukenness >:D
Ignore if this is already posted but this vid at 0:38 is pretty definitive that nj. HP does not knockdown the opponent if he is on the ground. The nj. HP combos into the pain train are set to go.
(GIVES U BIG HUG) >> << … what?
That is great news. Thanks for the posting!
I hate to admit it ut your 100% right! Im looking at this the wrong way but i hate the idea that someone could mistake me for bandwaggining a character when ive been true to them since Vanilla. .
But regardless your right let them come
Sweet. So both are Cody style and not Juri. Man scratch that off of the nerf list. So now it’s just backthrow which isn’t even that surprising of a change and counters(which the removal from kicks part is actually a buff).
Also at 0:32 we see the mentioned HP counter(feel free to correct me on the follwing, it’s from what I remember mentioned) posing like EX but no flash. This is the one that is suppossed to counter mid attacks right? It counters a Jumpin LK though O.o In another Ryu vid I saw it catch j.MP(and seen it get armour broken, but that ancient theory was no doubt thrown when the blog said what it did, but in case any out there hoped for that).
So am I mistaking which animation was meant to catch high or is something more sinister going on?

Or that Gouken is now a really good character.
Choo choo.
Why even care if they think that? If they feel the need to be so shallow in thoughts it’s apity. If you just picked him up now, why would that be an issue? I won’t be shy to say that while I’ve mained Gouken since vanilla, I’ve often practiced Ryu because I loved seeing what Daigo did with him, but often enough realised the character only partially suits me. I love his zoning but he misses that umpf that I get from Gouken. He’s still fun on occasion.
Lots of things can draw someone to a character and honestly whatever drew them(Playstyle, Character Design, Tier placement, Matchups, Inspiring Player etc) to it is probably fun for them so more power to them. Dictating how someone else should enjoy the game is pointless, let them do what pleases them
Looks like this vid also confirms the safeness of the lp Palm Strike. Look at the block string starting at 18 sec to 22 sec. Because of how the Old Man no longer moves forward, this string is safe. I want to see a vid where he initiates that attack at point-blank range. If that is also safe, then this is a huge tool added to his repertoire. Sweet deal.

Everyone wants to feel like they’re a beautiful, unique snowflake. And from experience, I think that’s more of a problem than hopping on a bandwagon. It’s almost anti-bandwagon. At least riding a bandwagon makes sense practically (you’re playing a character that will likely net you a lot of wins).
Play a character because he’s interesting, good, or fits you, not because he makes you feel special.
Gouken makes me feel special, it’s one of the myriad reasons I play him
I’ve enjoyed Gouken being rare, as I get that certain sensation of being the only one at a tourney representing the old man, but I am not about to complain him becoming better and many more flocking to him. We have much to teach these grasshoppers and I look forward to seeing them at my side and against me in tourneys helping show what the old man can do
Maybe HP if for air attacks? MP for what punches countered on the ground in super/vanilla and LP for the traditional kick kongo?
It’s certainly what I assume is most likely. I still hope to see someone use MP counter sometime to finally settle this though.
I used MP to counter cr jabs and the like. I’m assuming LP will catch things that need to be blocked low. But then again it’s SF4 and nothing makes sense. Fun fact: In SF4 Strawberry Gouken can low counter Dudley’s overhead.
Ah okay. I have seen low counter do so versus ryus c.MK so that seems unchanged(as expected).
So curious if you have any idea of the following:
I assume MP makes him do the classic Punch counter stance?
And HP does the EX stance?
Have you tried stopping Jumpins with MP counter? Have you tried stopping anything else with HP counter?
Versus SRK’s do all 3 counters work or just LP and MP?
Also as for strawberry, I’ve also countered Yoga snipers with low counter, shit cracked me up XD It definitely mattered where the attack hitbox was located, not wether you have to block the move high or low.
