I ended up making Top 16. Lost to Dieminion, he played a good set but I had some controller faults. I got so frustrated that I basically gave the last 2-3 rounds away fadc’ing through booms and doing IDGAF type shit. Then I was up against Damascus in losers who I play all the time online and is an easy mu for me. I was still frustrated about my other loss I just didnt give a fuck anymore and rushed down, no blocking lol. I realize that sounds like a bunch of excuses but my pad fucking up really threw me over the edge. I had been dealing with issues like that all weekend, playing Nuckledu using converters, Cronus, Crossfire, lagging all over the place and losing to it. Its just not a level playing field when your opponent is playing stick with 0 lag and you have to use a converter where theres 2 frames of lag. Its like you’re behind the curve cuz thats where execution counts. You drop something online its “Eh, lost some points”. Drop something at a tourney or push a button as normal and nothing happens you get eliminated.
Im gonna switch to using the analog converter for 360 and use the PS2 pad. I really dont like the PS2 pad but I had a few pros let me use theirs to test and there is absolutely zero lag. Its like being on stick. So, Im gonna start that today and hopefully I’ll be ready in time for whenever the next tourney is.
i also know the feeling to literally giving up after certain key events like strange losses or similar. just a pity the matches have not been on stream.
Congrats my friend!!! Good for you and don’t get mad for it (easier said than done) just learn from it and take it easy… Ohh and I’d recommend a stick so you don’t have to deal with all that bullshit
Haha, thanks everybody. I appreciate the support. If anything it just lit even more of a fire up my ass. I promise you guys I will do better next tourney.
You will play better with a stick. You will win more with a stick. Get a damned stick! I don’t even know how you pad players do it. I tried for about a month before I just couldn’t take it anymore. Bought a Madcatz SE, then a TE, and now I have my third stick…and my thumbs are so very grateful. Your thumbs must look like deformed chicken legs by now with all that Dashy McGoo shit you do! They ain’t put no pads on them arcade machines cause them fighting games is made for stick. You will get a stick and you will like it!
Side note: Anyone ever play SF1 in the arcades when it had those giant ass buttons that you had to punch to get an attack to come out? I’m talking like the size of small plates with some kind of foam cover…If I recall correctly there was only 1 punch button and 1 kick button…oh, and A FUCKING STICK!
Hahaha I tried stick fellas! I bought a brand new TE off some guy from CL about a year ago cuz I figured it’d better my execution. I tried it for about 3 weeks and it just doesnt work for me. I didnt grow up in the arcades. I grew up playing SF2, MvC, SF vs Xmen, games like that on console at home on Super Nintendo, Playstation and such. Im a pad player and do awesome with it imo. My only issue is that all converters that allow you to play PS3 pad on 360 are all digital and have SOME kind conversion lag. Nuckledu plays pad as well using a PS2 pad with some wonky converter (nothing I’ve ever seen before) but its analog. He let me use it and theres absolutely zero lag in that thing.
So instead of making the switch to stick like I was originally thinking, I think Im just gonna make the switch to PS2 pad. I dont like the PS2 pad because the back part comes all the way up to the R2, L2 buttons and restricts the way I hold the pad (kinda hold my pad a little loose atm). PS3 pads dont have the plastic back piece because there are actual trigger buttons that bend down. I think once I get used to the PS2 pad, everything will fall into place.
I didn’t grow up in the arcades, and played SSF2 as well as KI on pad. Been padding for a few years on SF4, gave up a few times, but I’m comfortable on stick again. I’m cool with pad, it’s just that I need more warmup time on that than I do on stick and I don’t play often so the latter option works out to be better for me. That said, I still can’t perform quickly on tick with shotos like Ryu or Sakura. Those I’m still too used to using on pad, mainly due to all the button chaining and bnb combos.
Im sure I can learn it, I just dont have any issues with it. I can see if I had execution issues, not being able to do something but thats not the case. I can plink on pad, piano if I want, kara throw…its easy the way I have my pad setup. My issue is now that everything is migrating to 360 for tourneys Im running into conversion lag. Played with a analog converter on PS2 pad last night for about 5 hours, no lag. Its a little weird but its not anything I cant get used to.
You stick people keep your sticks and leave us pad people alone! (Crying)
I know, I know my friend my post wasn’t intent to force you to leave the pad for stick but the problem is all the converters and all that bullshit, if you don’t want the stick is fine, look at wolfkrone, he uses a ps2 and everybody knows him. Just asking, how was the Cronus device?? And the reason why I told you to change was because I was using pad before but I had to cover the cross with a piece of shirt, so my finger wouldn’t suffer any bruised, and I couldn’t do too much on it but that doesn’t seem to be the case for you. So just keep using the pad and train yourself mentally now!!! OK my friend!!! And I feel go to have you in my side, I’ve learn a lot from you, ohh you damn bastard I knew you want and played with Osama gouken, I knew it I knew it!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahhahaha
Hahaha. The Cronus is good. Online you cant really feel too much lag, maybe about a frame. But theres online lag so I think it just gets sucked into that. I dont play offline on 360, I play on PS3. So this past weekend when I had to play 360 offline in casuals, using the Cronus I was blown away. It was about 2 frames of lag which we know all seems like nothing but makes a huge difference. It weird, cuz like I said, online it feels like theres almost no lag or at the worst 1 frame.
Im officially on PS2 pad now though so no worries and hopefully no issues. I was just joking up there man lol.
I didnt know where to put this but I just found out that Capital One lets you put your own images on your credit cards!! WTF? Why wasn’t I told about this? Haha. They done fucked up lol.
50 losses, 7 wins. Talk about progress. Was playing from 11 til 4 just now. Been trying to engage deeply into the game and managed to play as smart as I could several times, took some risks and guessed right many times. Feeling a bit more confident in that I got myself to play more footsies than trying to simply “play the game”, as well as paying attention to identifying patterns. Only thing I really struggled with today was reacting with reversals. I had been inputting everything really late so stupid little jabs kept stuffing me and my fucked up joystick execution wasn’t helping at all.
Solid defense and conservative crouch teching (not mashing throw) while using 3 buttons to avoid frame traps and counterhit.
Finally got safe jumps down with sweeping. IMMEDIATELY light or medium kick flip and hit kicks as soon as possible. This is a must to bait/punish shoryuken heavy bitches.
Must learn every matchup. I just hit 15,000 matches and still learning what/when Gouken can and can’t do certain things.
Based on most of your posts, you seem to understand a lot about the character on paper. Unfortunately, that probably leads to oversciencing and analyzing when you need to be reacting. If you are thinking about anything while playing, you won’t be successful.
