Old Man G! The man who trained the 2 main characters of the game. He taught Ryu and Ken the Shoryuken as a special move but did not add it to his arsenal? Why? Because he likes a challenge. Mashing srks and solid reversals are for scrubs and tier whores. Gouken is the true master where every choice you make can either get you killed or give you that one moment where you unleash havoc upon your foes with those trunk-like arms.
Whats that? Did I just do a 700 damage combo on you in the corner? My bad. How do you feel about some mixups then? Or maybe ‘dizzy’?
I beat the #1 Seth and the #1 Ibuki with Gouken recently (PC) and it felt good to be C tier and still showing them whats up. Also beat the highest ranked Yun I’ve played (#10) and good lord, did it feel good to wipe that smug smile off his face with a Shin Shoryuken. Up kicks on your wakeup will you?? No thanks. To the sky with your ass. Get that shit out of my face.
Granted, I lose a lot too but its mostly because of my own execution errors or not blocking things I should be. Or getting wasted by a random ultra. A bison refused to play me after he beat me with a wakeup ultra. Finally, he let me play him again and I nearly double perfected his ass. I love that Gouken requires flawlessness in all aspects of the game from the player. It goes with the whole theme of being the master. Masters dont make mistakes and get away with it.
When I started playing street fighter 3-ish months ago, I looked at the cast and found all of them quite boring. Seth interested me but his walk speed was too slow for my tastes. I liked Ryu cause I used to play him as a kid in SF2 but he’s so generic and has little to no weaknesses. Then I stumbled upon Gouken and I liked him cause of his lore, playstyle and design. If Gouken wasn’t in this game, I would not be playing this game. period.
All my friends (who’ve been playing sf since it came out) kept telling me to drop him cause he was supposedly ‘ass’. Now when I get a winstreak going in an endless against them, they say ‘Gouken is the stupidest character in the game. He defies the rules of street fighter. He can block in air and you cant safe jump him’. Haha, we even came up with a special name for ex tatsu - the lemon scoop because obviously he glows yellow and it scoops those bastards in from miles away.
Wow that was long. Guess I love the old man a little more than I hate him when I get frustrated.
EX palm fadc resets are fun. Flip grab twice in a row on wakeup. 120 point hp stab hand. Cr. hp xx hado fadc cr.lk xx hk tatsu. Spammmmmmming flips and sweeps.
Jumping mp to jumping hk is soooooooooweeeeeet! Catching Balrog or Seth in the corner with ex flip to st.hp xx ex palm to ex hado to ex hado to ultra…priceless! Fuck your life bar.
Holy shit. Shout outs to iamtahiam’s front throw x walk forward x ambiguous DF set up. I’m stuffing shit left and right now, the Guile match up just got much less painful.
I just had a go using it,
Unfortunately no, you cannot use a followup nj.HP or dj.HK after a backthrow dj.MP (2 hitter) because you can’t land and jump again in time to hit before they hit the ground.
Since you have to be at your jump apex or on the way down when you dj.MP them. And backthrow doesn’t give you enough time for this.
Haha also, when you do, do this from another situation, it is NOT a hard knockdown so they can quick rise.
You’ll be about a far st.MP distance away if you used nj.HP.
or right next to them on the opposite side if you used dj.HK.
You’ll have a short period of time before they get up if they quick stand, but not enough time for a DF (You get to the apex ish)
Enough time to reposition or attempt a jump crossover.
Still i would recommend using it when you hit them with a dj.MP air to air.
It’s better than dj.MP > Air Tastu imo.
