Made it to the 2nd boss and got my ass kicked but got an idea what his pattern is. Save and load system isn’t very clear. I get what they were going for but it’s too cryptic. I looked it up and there’s supposed to be a hint or something telling how to load a game and I was idle for a bit and at the start menu and said hint never came up. Basically it goes like this: after you beat a boss and go to that stage that collects your gold and all that. You quit the game (you don’t have to quit but you know what I mean) and when you start up go immediately left and it takes you to the first level, then go immediately left again and it takes you to the 2nd level and etc. I just checked the manual and it hints at a level skip but doesn’t tell you how to do it. You’re going to see a lot of people bitch about this.
Beat the 2nd boss. He’s kinda’ easy. Once you know the pattern you just have to wail on him once he does that electricity. 3rd level reminds me of the zombie level in Metal Slug 3. Made it to the boss and got raped. Very basic idea of what his pattern is. Kinda’ like Death in Rondo of Blood. Puts you in bullet hell.
I would say it takes about half hour to an hour to beat each level. 6 levels (I think) plus a hidden level. I figure once you get all the patterns down you could probably beat the entire game in maybe an hour or two in one go.
Have you made it to any Valkyrie levels, Louis? If you open certain chests while you have all your gear (shield, helmet, sword) you get a little spirit thing and you unlock an alternate level for the next one. Then you use the spirits as lives for the alternate levels and once you get 0 you go to the beginning of the standard level.
I think I know how to beat the 3rd boss, I just need to figure out how to make it there with my fire sword lol.
I can beat the first level in about 6-8 minutes now I think. Level two still takes me a while, mainly because I need the firesword to consistently beat the boss, but getting to him is pretty easy. If you have it you can just WHALE on him when he shocks the water.

Helmet also looks BA. Beat the 3rd boss. Once you figure out what you’e supposed to do to doge his first attack (not the projectiles) he’s stupidly easy. Easiest boss so far. Working on level 4.
I love reading about everyone’s progressions. I especially love all the twitch and youtube vids. Beating the main path of the game is… well, you’ll have to see.
This game better be as hard as advertised, or else I’m going to be SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED.
Nah not really, game looks great either way, will purchase. Prob wont be able to touch it till next week though due to two jobs, programming and W101. Congrats on the release!
Mjolnir? I don’t think you can activate it on command no. The helmet speeds up your attack a little bit.

I just beat Dark Souls a couple of days ago and the beginning of this game and what you said here leads me to believe that a similar thing may be in store for the end of the standard path of the game lol
I’ve been playing the game from level one each time because I really like getting good enough to just be able to run through them and unlock the alternate paths. None of which I’ve beaten. I got to the 3rd boss from the alternate door so I know I can beat that one now but I still don’t think I’ve gotten to the second area of the second alternate world.
World Four is kind of a pain in the ass so far lol. I just played it for like 5-10 minutes.
I want to check out Shinobi 3DS now. This is definitely a classic and I hope these guys do more games like this in the future. I’d love to see a new Castlevania-style side scroller or a new run 'n gun game.
Pro tip: not sure if it’s been discussed or not but I’ll mention it. If you’re crouching and attack, you hit behind you a little bit. The hitbox is a little bit above the back of your head. This can come in handy on the 3rd boss…
Level 4 is pissing me off but I figured out how to make the jump in the first section in the rope bit. I still don’t know the timing to get the treasure up top but to make the jump on that platform where a torch throwing dude is to the right. The trick is simple. You don’t jump off the rope. You hold down until you fall off and then you do the double jump on to the platform. That was tricky to figure out.
Tempted to look up an LP but I don’t want to ruin it for myself. Would spend more time with it but KOF13 has been taking up a lot of time.
No… I’ve been too busy trying to beat all the alternate levels, I’ve gotten to 5B and got stumped and super frustrated at those Red Birds. I can get to level 4 in about 25 minutes from starting though so I’m making progress lol.
and I’ve noticed I’m too super reliant on having full gear. I am just AWFUL without my helmet, sword too obviously, its just a mental thing at this point. Thinking I’m getting better though because I beat the 2nd boss with just my 2nd shield, because he is super easy with flamesword.
I actually haven’t beat 4A yet 4B though wasn’t super bad. Took 2 tries to beat the boss second time I was fully stocked + mjolnir. I really liked the secret basement area there too. Is there stuff like that in the previous levels that I missed by any chance? If you say yes or give a cryptic answer I’m just going to walk through all the levels holding LB from now on/
