Awesome event, awesome turnout, great games!

PS: Broken enough to be allowed in Japanesesesese tournies ehhhh? :stuck_out_tongue:

PPS: They’re stupid characters either way. . .

Is this a justification or something

lol if that’s the actual reason Seth and Gouken were banned. That’s pretty shortsighted and silly for top players.

I would find it hard to believe that Gootecks still believes the rhetoric (and often outright misinformation) from that old podcast now that everyone has had the chance to actually see what Seth and Gouken are capable of.

Maybe if Seth and Gouken said “TIGER” during every move animation, they’d be allowed.

Yea, Gouken’s backthrow to ultra and parry are what they consider broken. And for Seth they don’t like how if Seth is ahead on life and you have 25-30% health there’s nothing you can do if he has ultra. They’ve explained on gooteck’s podcast that they are preemptively banning them b/c they might be broken or until they are sure they aren’t broke. Honestly I think they should do the opposite and unban them until it’s proven they are broken.

Either way, it’s a good thing they don’t take the decisions. Evo is allowing both of them.

I wouldn’t main either one regardless.

Why take a chance that a tournament you go to hasn’t gone through the hoops to unlock one or the other.

A tournament organizer with some kind of respect for the tournament he’s about to hold would unlock them, no?
I’m doing one in a month or so and I’m going to unlock all characters on the systems.

Gootecks in his last 2 podcast mentioned that Japan also bans them. Is he wrong on that?

That is ban worthy? That’s just dumb.

Shut yo mouth!

Gouken is the man!

Great vids, looked like alot of fun, thanks for sharing!

Hi, I use Seth and he’s my favorite character to play as.

That said, the discussion is moot since real tournaments allow them. Let’s keep the discussion to the event itself and away from the tired old ban argument.

There’s nothing bannable about Gouken. Parries leave him open to throws and other shit.
Seth is more questionable because certain characters have very little they can do to get near him (especially if he has ultra), but I’m not sure he’s banworthy either.

he does shit damage, and he eats damage like hell, though.

Why don’t we just talk about the matches? Talking about what characters were banned at an event that already happened isn’t gonna make much of a difference. I’m sure theres plenty of other threads to debate that in. That Combofiend vs Edma match was dope.

Man i wish i lived in SoCal…

true… it’s impossible to get near seth if he has ultra… you just have to eat the ultra or hope they mess up

Here’s Kai’s conception on the ban of Seth and Gouken, or what I interpreted from the podcast (of course, I do work while I listen, so it might not have reproduced his entire argument - someone who listened carefully go ahead and add on):
Since the Japanese are paragons of execution, they should have the authority to ban whichever characters they deem ban-worthy. And what do you know, Seth and Gouken are banned in Japanese SFIV tournaments. For those that argue that US players are up to par compared to Japanese players… wait for SBO or EVO if any Japanese decide to come.

I find the argument somewhat of a debate between arcade players and console players… since Seth and Gouken are the only two tournament “worthy” console characters, and arcade players have been playing for months without the two and doing just fine.

And those that stated the argument is moot since the two aren’t banned… they were before, so don’t get your hopes up that they won’t be in the future. Don’t spend all of your time on one character that could be banned… while you could have been playing another character that’s just as battle-worthy as Seth/Gouken. Just a thought.

Back to the topic: Rose ball for EVO! Ha.

People keep saying they’re banned in Japan but don’t provide any proof. Source? I find it odd that Japan is holding console tournaments.

Errr… They have some pretty broken moves, lol. Especially Gouken with his backthrow ultra and parry. It’s a only a little ridiculous, just a little.
