you don’t put that much effort, time and money into something just to drop it because you don’t have that much fun anymore. stuff like this has profound reasons.
I’m pretty sure this is a temporary thing , if its not well good luck to him and to whatever he seeks out to do.
Dude, that’s exactly what he’s said though: if he finds he doesn’t enjoy fighting games / the community anymore, he was gonna move on.
As an aside, I wish people were this sad when Ed Ma went home to be a family man
that was way back. and that is pure logic. you quit your hobby when you don’t have fun anymore. it’s not a “hobby” anymore when you go professional, have an own show, have business relationships and contracts etc.
what did Triforce do now?? heehee
I’ll miss you, Gewtegs
Here come all the conspiracy theories from the people who dont realize there is way more to life than fighting games.
Anyways though props to Gootecks for all he did to help out the community. He is a big reason it has essentially become as large as it is. All good things must come to an end though as they say.
Actually what he said were there were external forces beyond his control and there was lots of umming and ahhing around the subject. From the moment he started talking it definitely had that air of, “our company is closing and you’re all getting laid off” or “it’s not you it’s me” sorta speech.
As for Ed Ma, well he just left without any fanfare. People didn’t even know. Also, he is a combat designer for Activision now so don’t feel too bad for the guy. Right now no one knows what Gootecks is gonna do and sad that they won’t get their weekly fix.
The content of the statement he made less than an hour ago makes it very clear that something has happened that prompted him to make this decision.
tell me more about this “life” you speak of
I enjoy CrossCounter and understand that he contributed a lot HOWEVER he was a sponsored player who doesn’t even play the games really. He became a personality, perhaps Complexity wants players and out of respect allowed him the chance to step down instead of getting booted in ugly fashion. CC has became a brand to the point that it can survive without him and unfortunately it could have simply been a business decision.

There you go, Gootecks…
There you go…
But honestly. I wonder what happened.
I think gootecks plays a bigger role then we expect. he also clearly emphasized that “the GAMING side will remain intact”. he was the brain behind all the organisation and stuff like that. I doubt CC Live will exist much longer without him to be honest. mike is a player, not an organizer.
I thought his position with Complexity was content manager? Considering the name recognition he has, he doesn’t even need to be good at the games to be forth money to them.
nigga what the fuck is juice?
Gootecks said himself that there was some sort of “disagreement”. Something happened that made him want to leave.
I don’t buy it.
Seems weird he would step down if CC Live was getting shut down by people higher than him, and not say anything about it? He also seemed to insist that Mike would still be a part of CC Live, so the show isn’t going anywhere?
From the sounds of it, he’s stepping down because of whatever drama happened at FR, or because he just doesn’t like doing what he does anymore. Either way, for someone who has put their face on a lot of the happenings in the scene, it kind of feels hollow to hear him go without any real explanation.
UltraDavid got something to do with this maybe?
