vs adon, keep in mind to watch back after ex wall kicks, they usually go for tick throw and u can punish it. if u can tell the difference between a tkd jag tooth and a ground one, u can focus the air one for free. Other than that a mix of fast and slow air slashers will own him, but you have to balance mix up and run away vs him.

Guile… if you can get in one him and keep him mixed up you are fine. getting in is the problem…
Dic is even, the only issue is dic’s mk and hk pressure. I think lk can punish the wheel kick of his.

Rose… it depends on the player. I gotten pissed off at a rose that kept throwing fireballs and then would throw me and run away and repeat.
other than that, if you can start the mix up on her its gg, just learn to tech throws.

I admit, playing deejay has taught me a lot of stuff. M old main was cammy, but since everybody and their ma is playing her…I dropped her for a new char.
Now i learned how to plink combos, now i need to learn how to tech better…

fuck this dash u1 and u2. I cant get the dash on either.

First of all I don’t believe Dee Jay is a character who needs a secondary. But to answer your hypothetical and rather silly question purely playing the numbers game I see 3 choices.

**Chun-Li **
An even match with herself Ryu, Guile and Dhalsim this is not the perfect counterpick to take on all comers but if you feel you can handle them with Dee Jay she brings an excellent 7 against both T Hawk and Honda and a 6 against Sagat. One secondary you can pick up with the goal of absolutely smashing a few bad matchups while softening the blow on the others rather then something to take on all comers with flying colours. She also has some overlapping of style with Dee Jay as a character I feel, not much but enough to get that hint of familiarity.

Seth
A funky character to think about. Brings a 6 against Honda and Guile and a 7 against T Hawk. Seth is also not as “traditional” as Chun so you won’t find so many people who know the matchup against your secondary. A nice surprise to have in your pocket. The trade of a 7 against Honda for a 6 is well worth swapping the 6 from Sagat to Guile, (An infinitely more common character) and the knowledge that people probably won’t be prepared for your secondary.

**Dhalsim **
A quality choice and my personal one were I forced to play the numbers game only (And lets face it if we picked characters just off Matchup numbers we would not be playing Dee Jay so these secondary choices are meaningless really). Dhalsim brings to the table an advantage against every single character on the list except for Chun Li and himself. Not to mention a 7 against the ubiquitous Guile. I personaly don’t think Chun has the advantage over Dee Jay anyway. And the Dhalsim vs Dhalsim matchup is a pretty crazy one very few people know. If you put in the time to get it down I would expect you would have little trouble with other Sims on your level.

So there you have it. A Similar character a surprise character and a solid character. Pick whichever takes your fancy.

I decided not to consider anyone who shared a single 4 or less with Dee Jay.

My secondary is Dudley for the same reason my main is Dee Jay. Simply because I like Dudley. Screw the numbers.

If everyone mained Ryu, it’d be the same as if we all mained U2 Abel and Dhalsim.

We’d be assholes. But I think it goes a long way to say that, I don’t think I’m a good enough player or even good enough with Deejay to admit that his standings on the tier list or matchup breakdown is why I lost.

I just felt like we needed someone to throw that out there 10 posts in.

We didn’t. It really does go without saying.

Honestly. Dee Jay’s matchups are excellent. Do you have any idea how many characters in so many competitive fighting games would literally kill and eat babies for no 7:3’s whatsoever across the board and not even that many 4’s? Anyone who wants a secondary to cover them is talking crazy.

I usually win those matchups. It’s just more work than others. Rose and Dictator is not even close to even lol. Maybe against the average joe Bison or Rose but not the top of the line.

I feel ya but Chun Li was my main in Vanilla and all the way back to HF. She will always have a place in my heart. In my short DJ tourney history, I played with him every single match and I must say that I never felt like I was in a horrible matchup. I blame me for my mistakes but sometimes I wonder… “what if I picked Chun against that sim or dictator?”

I disagree with anyone who said that Dee Jay doesn’t need a second character. If your playing tournies and you’re playing to win I don’t suggest sticking with only Dee Jay on some of his bad matchups. Also if ur just playing casually why wouldn’t you want to play with other characters as well?

The matchups that I like to switch characters on is Guile, Adon, Dhalsim, Balrog, maybe some others like Rufus and Akuma. I’ll switch if I’m not feeling confident with DJ in a tournament, or just in casuals when I don’t want to risk getting b/s’d out of a win and have to pass it.

IMO Dee Jay is kind of a solid character in this game, but he just doesn’t hit hard, doesn’t do well with pressure, and can’t do much with his Ultras w/o risk. If anyone wants to give their opinion go ahead, and I’ll tell you why I feel this way.

Never dropping DJ as a main though, I still play the hell out of him, can’t wait to get his new alt 2! Also can’t wait to see what changes are made for DJ in arcade edition.

I disagree with you disagreeing.

It’s kinda hard to put into words but the basic nub of it is.

If you’re playing tournies and you’re only playing to win. Then picking Dee Jay in the first place at all is a far greater handicap then not picking up a secondary to cover his matchups could ever be.

Picking up a secondary is never a bad idea, it helps you learn more about the game in total, and gives you another point of view which will also benefit your main character. It is however very difficult to play two characters at a decent level for players who just don’t want to invest as much time.

I say just pick whomever you like and don’t care about matchups, if you’re good you can win with anyone. I say that from an intermediate player’s perspective however, never have known what it’s like on tournament level.

Dj does good damage… I’ve been able to punish peoples pokes with c lp c mp xx a lot instead of trying to always jump in and stuff oh well

DJ does decent damage, but not good compared to other characters. Ryu can do more damage with easier links, and even more damage with harder links, and has much harder punishes. I wouldn’t say DJ has good damage output, unless we’re talking EX MGU > dash U2. That’s guuuud.

I don’t want to turn this into yet another matchup thread, but there’s no freaking way that Balrog is a 5-5 matchup. Dee Jay has such problems with Boxer it’s crazy. No effective zoning ability, inferior pokes and footsies, sobat’s pretty much useless… the only thing you can really do is cross him up like a madman and try to get a vortex going.

Am I missing something? Does DJ have a special taunt that turns Balrog into Dan?

Hmm, Deejay getting more fun for me. I think he compliments my Bison main pretty well. If you don’t know, Bison can’t properly AA consistent against some of the more popular characters (trades a lot because of distance+hit boxes). I’m finding upkicks to be suchhhhh a relief after two years of SF4 Bison AA options.

I honestly wish the Deejay forums had better representatives who post more often.

Some of this info is plain wrong, and it will confuse people who don’t know.

I’m not a great player but if I really get into Deejay, I’ll attempt my best to contribute too. My Bison forum track record’s not too bad :d

We’re doing our best here, buddy.

If you see info that’s wrong, it would be a huge help if you could post it up for us! If you’re seeing a lot of it, maybe a “DJ Myths debunked” thread would be good, too!

First off the tier list goes by match up data. doesn’t mean the character at the top is the best.

Although deejay is higher than some characters i believe
Adon, Viper, and some others have the potential of going further than him in a tournament because they are better overall characters despite their matchups.

I don’t think T Hawk is a bad matchup. You can carefully lame him out. If you stop zoning you will lose.

eat shit .

^There’s always a dick headed twerp who will take general statements personally.

Balrog is a 5-5 match up and so is Bison… EVERYBODY is just doing it wrong right? =0\
