You might run Strange with Eye and Dorm on Purificiation. Relevant tech:

Alternatively, if you can get some variant of the Soul Drain loops running with Dark Hole, your entire team problem could potentially be solved. You could start Morrigan on point, keep Dorm in the 2nd slot, and have a 3rd assist to help finish the loop (while hopefully providing neutral support as well).
Morrigan-γ / Dormammu-α / Dante-α
I really hope this team could work for this purpose because 1) Dorm with Jam Session rocks, 2) You retain a strong state-change hyper behind Stalking Flare, and 3) all demons!
Confirming into the loop would build massive meter for Dormammu to start his shenanigans. Morrigan’s TAC glitch allows for fairly-reliable and meter-positive way of bringing Dorm in on point:

And once he’s on point, Dark Harmonizer could supply him with more meter to continue them. Note that this is all hypothetical: I’m not sure if Dorm can actually help perform the loop. If this tech did end up working though, you’d have a monstrous team on your hands. Dante in 3rd is variable as well - I just picked a second capture assist that is already known to work well with both characters. If Jam Session doesn’t work in the loop, you could replace it with Hyper Grav like in the 1st video … or something else.
The best-possible scenario would be one where you could TAC Cancel after linking several Soul Drains off of Dark Hole or a similar assist. Again, not sure if this is possible, but if it is then this team will be sooo stupid. These are just mostly ideas I have that my fingers can’t keep up with.
It really depends on who I am playing. I’m not opposed to starting Dormammu on point. I wouldn’t think of it as having a set team order - I put whoever on point.
Thanks, I’ve seen those. I’ve thought about it, but the bolts are really good, and I doubt I could pull those combos off. It’s still day 1 of the team, I care a lot about functionality before doing crazy stuff like that. Still messed up Strange’s jump loop a few times today.
I do appreciate all the videos, though, thank you.
Dark Hole can let Morrigan land 1 Soul Drain and continue the combo. I actually kind of hate Dante, so I don’t think I want to anchor him…or use him at all. Plus, Dormammu backed by Dark Harmonizer is too good to risk losing.
There are much better Assists for Captain America, but I think I’m finally back to playing Dormammu on a team with him.
Originally I stopped playing Dormammu because some of his best pairings (Doom, Mags, Sent, Dante) are all characters I don’t really like to play. I also ran through a very long period in UMVC3 where I was just plugging Dormmamu into teams just because I missed playing him. I randomly picked up Captain America last week and I really like how he works with Dormmamu.
With Cap on point, I have the choice of zoning with Dark Hole Assist. With Cap’s Shield Slash, Dark Hole ends up looking a little better than it really is as an Assist. With Nova at the end, Captain America gets access to all sorts of fun setups with the other two characters, including a couple of unblockables. DHC into Chaotic Flame is solid damage and DHC into Stalking Flare opens up some really fun setups. I like this team because it feels similar setup-wise with how I played Wolverine/Dorm/Akuma in Vanilla.
So glad I’m getting back into playing Dorm. Too much fun.
^I’m running around multiple Dormammu teams at the moment.
I am still working on the Dormammu/Dante/Magneto team as a “complete all top-tier BS team with multiple options and makes Dormammu almost as good as Zero or Vergil”.
I also have a Taskmaster/Dormammu/Akuma for general user-friendly team.
And finally, I have a Nemesis/Dormammu/Arthur team for trolling purposes.
I can definitely imagine Dark Hole to be effective with Cap. I use it defensively for Wolverine, but I would love to have a quick and annoying projectile like Cap’s shield. Have you guys played any teams of Frank/Dorm? Frank can call Dorm and just snap-shot away in the air. The camera’s got such a huge hitbox that he’s completely safe from approach and if you get hit you land in the D.Hole, it’s pretty sweet.
I guess Cap is just as annoying, and Dorm can eat other projectiles like Plasma Beam etc. Also, Wolverine/Dorm is still awesome.
Speaking of Dark Hole, has anyone tried using it with Doom? I play Ghost Rider (I know, I know) Dorm/Doom. I’ve been wanting to switch Dorm to anchor because I want to derp people with lv3 x factor. I hate the idea of Doom coming in second with basically no assist though.
Yeah Dark Hole is one of the best extension assists for Wolverine (lets him combo off all throws that aren’t SJ, extend at the very end of combos for big meter and damage) and it’s attatched to a strong as fook character, so provided you’ve got a 3rd who can let you get a combo started then you can end it with D.Hole extensions.
In the short time I was just messing around with Doom (point)/Dorm, it’s a decent assist for him.
If you are playing offensively, Dark Hole can be used to hide a lot of Dorm’s High/Low with j.M. IMO, I don’t think it helps Doom’s zoning that much more, but you can hit confirm pretty easily with Doom of off a random Dark Hole tag.
Even though you don’t like ‘derping’ with XF3 Doom, Dormammu with either Hidden Missles or Plasma Beam is ridiculously annoying/good. I also like the DHC from Ghost Rider to Dormammu a lot more. You either get damage (Chaotic Flame) or a setup (Stalking Flare). On top of all that, you are guaranteed (on paper) to have Doom’s Assist for both Ghost RIder AND Dormammu to use.
Dorm with missiles is lovely indeed. I’ve just been having kind of mediocre results lately so I was thinking about switching the order to get a different look. I guess I also feel like Doom handles certain match ups (Spencer and Cap, which are really popular here for some reason) so if I can get him in with some support maybe I’ll do better in those situations.
Basically getting mauled, but the invincible supers make it harder to get anything going. I can’t really safely approach, zone or call missiles. I can’t figure out a way to create space safely. I find my backwards try jumps getting caught by arm/charging star, teleports air thrown. Push block chaotic flame is useless, ball super is useless. If I am in a position to generate offense, my tri - jump approaches are regularly blown up by arm/charging star, or air thrown (I have that problem with every character through). Essentially, I feel like I can’t play my neutral game because it’s to slow/unsafe against certain characters.
Ghost Rider/Dorm/Doom. I think it’s pretty hard to bait them out of good players to be honest. Now and then someone will make a mistake, but for the most part I don’t play anyone who will toss that kind of thing out when it won’t hit or they don’t have a safe dhc.
Yeah, you gotta read when the mistakes happen and capitalize hard. I think you may need to get rid of Dorm and put someone like Akuma because GR really needs an assist that gives him space. GR/Doom/Akuma is the best GR team in my opinion.
I play Wesker on point if I feel like not playing a low tier. I’m more about my character loyalty then wins though. My scene is small and I’m never gonna be competitive nationally anyhow so in all honesty it doesn’t really matter how bad or good the characters I play are.
Anyway, I like playing GR/Dorm. I have played Akuma instead and it’s alright but I’m comfortable enough playing against pressure with GR that I like the versatility Dorm offers. Dark Hole is very nice for GRs combos and throw extensions. Just gotta clean my shit up in those problem matches.
Might I recommend Iron Fist if you want to make a “low tier” team (I don’t really buy the term but whatever) on anchor. If you have his kick assist which is really fast, it tears us any shield skills pressure or zip line pressure since it negates projectiles and it is fast enough that you opponent has to stay on the ground (although not as dominating as Vajra). Both Cap and Spencer are terrible without being able to take to the air at normal jump height. While he certainly is not the best anchor…both GR and Dorm can really benefit from his assist as it’s a pretty easy hit confirm for both GR and Dorm (you just have to alter you combos since you won’t have the wall bounce)?
