I’ll tempt a double post because I don’t think anybody has mentioned this explicitly yet.

TvC seems to be similar to SF4 in the aspect that you can shortcut 360 inputs. I could swear on multiple occasions I did 632147+C and the 360 grab came out. After consciously performing this input several times, I concluded that it was true.

So the 360 input is actually a 225 input. Helpful to know, I’d think.

if ur worried about his matchups why dont u pick another character

Bcoz thr rnt ny other characters who play liek teh giants k

In all seriousness though, that’s a dumb, dumb question. People play certain characters because they’d rather play those characters instead of playing Karas, Karas, Karas, Karas and Karas. Bad matchups are something we learn to deal with.

i mean lets b real man, u complain about the match up in every single thread that u have ever posted in…i was just wondering if u liked the character or u liked complaining about the character…if u wanna play ur character thats cool…n i dont play karas

Acknowledging a character’s weaknesses are a vital part ot understanding how to play that character. The fact that this is a bad matchup is not going to go away. But it’s important that people know about these bad matchups so they don’t go getting the wrong idea about Lightan and PTX.

go ahead bro knock ur self out

For a few Lightan matches played by my friend, ll.nd.

ll.nd. did an excellent job of getting around Tekkaman’s space lariat!

That video was an inspiration. I knew Gold Crash was the nuts.

I played some TvC with some good friends of mine, both of them were playing with Karas. None of them were familiar with Lightan; I won all but one match, and essentially due to luck. None of them listened to me when I told them to pick Tekkaman or Casshern, though. I wanted to get that familiarity. This video helps a lot with that.

I firmly believe Zippo has competitive value. Kara Gold Press is amazing. If you really want to put pressure on somebody or get them in the corner while you’re stuck in it, you can do: 2A chain, 5B xx Gold Press. No need to stop at the jabs, right?

I can see this being an issue if they try to punish it, but if you’re constantly on the attack they’re not often going to try to retaliate, since Zippo stops for nothing. If they start mashing out consistently, you can maybe screw up their timing by letting 5B connect, then do: 2B or 5C (xx Gold Press), 2C xx Gold Press.

This is about as much of a mix-up as he’s going to get, but I think it’s a good one.

Yeah, people are ignoring Air Gold Crash. Heck, if you have 2 more levels, that’s a free level 3 super!

Gold Lightan is too good: a video by me.

On a more serious note though, I think that knowing what cancels into what to avoid ending lag on his moves is probably the most important thing about playing gold lightan effectively, so here’s a little chart off the top of my head. (For the record anything that empty cancels will also cancel on hit.) Also, a cancel does not imply a combo, for example, a 5c xx 3c will not cancel (although a 5c bbq 3c will), this is intended to help with pressure strings more than anything else.

5a:
on hit: 5a,2a,5b,4b,2b,6b,5c,2c,3c
empty: all specials, supers

2a:
on hit:2a,5b,4b,2b,6b,5c,2c,3c
empty: all specials, supers

5b:
on hit:4b,2b,6b,5c,2c,3c
empty: all specials, supers

4b:
NOTHING, use this only as a finisher on combos, as it does large amounts of damage but inability to cancel makes it unsafe

6b:
NOTHING, for bbq use only

2b:
on hit:2b,4b,6b,5c,2c,3c
empty: specials, supers

5c:
on hit:2c,3c
empty: specials, supers

2c:
empty: specials, supers

3c:
on hit: jump
empty: specials, supers

j.a:
on hit: j.a(x1),j.b,j.c
empty: hcf+2p

j.b:
on hit: j.b(x1),j.c
empty: hcf+2p

j.c:
on hit(aerial): hcf+2p
on hit(landing lag): all specials, supers
empty(aerial): hcf+2p

hcf+p:
empty: supers

good stuff, yourmother!
Maybe I missed something, but was it said anywhere why the giants are banned?

My new theory is that they aren’t and that was a translation error at some point along the line. However, if they are banned I think it would be because of how lopsided their matchups are most of the time. One one hand apparently Karas v PTX is a 10-0, but on the other hand, I’d say PTX v Roll is probably something close to that in PTXs favor, as playing against the giants she loses basically all of her damage options except for a lvl 3 which you’ll never build meter for, she loses her ability to heal, there’s basically nothing she can do. Just my thoughts though.

Wow… Lightan. O.o

I posted this in general discussion, but some independent research (i.e. buying the tougeki damashii magazine) has revealed to me that Gold Lightan is in fact not banned, nor is ptx. They don’t rank them because of how differently they play from all the other characters, so their degree of success can vary wildly. However, they did say PTX seems better than lightan :-(.

This information pleases me.

Although it has nothing to do with game play a Golden Shoryuken is too funny for me to not post here :stuck_out_tongue:

the lack of lightan since march makes me cry inside =(

Playing Lightan is tough man. The fact that he has no low attacks and thus no mixup really, really hurts him.

If all people have to do is throw a projectile, Baroque, block high, escape the corner and continue, then this character has been relegated to the “advantageous to those who don’t know the matchup” bin.

If Capcom is serious about Lightan being tournament-viable, then they’ll make his crouching jabs or his crouching fierce a low hit.
