thinking about Thor (beam), (Hawkeye triple arrow or scatter shot), and Ghost Rider (otg).
So I’ve found my team in UMVC3. Funnily enough, it turns out that Team Avengers (Thor, Hawkeye, Iron Man) works amazingly well together.
I have not picked up Thor yet but I assume hes weak against people who can pelt him with stuff from the air. I’m thinking about using Thor B / Ammy B / Strider Y. I only wanna use Strider if my assumption is correct and Thor doesn’t have good options to counter aerial assaults. Any input?
That’s kind of a weird assumption to me. You see, Thor’s entire game is based in the air, so when fighting other people in the air, then it’s not that big a deal, (being able to command throw in the air is a great answer to most air to air stuff), but he does his most damage when he’s doin’ the air strikes on grounded opponents. So right now, I’d say that the team you wanna try out is good, just not for the assumption you’re giving it. Hiryu’s Y assist, that’s his teleporting dive kick right? Yeah, that’ll do you some good. It’ll scare your opponents into not jumping up all the time, which gives you like a pseudo lock down type of thing from any where on the screen, and that gives Thor everything he needs to move in close an’ do his thing. Ammy’s Cold Star works good for him too. Lockdown stuff, you can’t really go wrong with.
I also posted this on the Spider-man Forums. wanted to get opinions from the Thor players as well
I need some outside opinions on who I should run for my anchor. I use Spidey/Thor/???
I’ve used Arthur and MODOK. But Nova, Frank, and Iron Fist also look good. Mostly I’m looking for an assist to help me open up my opponent
Arthur is nice because XF3 gold armor is beastly and his dagger assist gives me plenty of time to start a combo, but he’s slow and against certain teams he never gets to do anything because they have too crazy mixup options when he comes in
MODOK I like because his beam comes out a few frames faster than Doom’s and has more durability and similar knockdown properties. I’ve also seen some people tear face with MODOK, and if I put alot of time into him, I think I could make him do alright. As an added bonus, I have the Elvis costume. He struggles against midgets though because of all his high hitting attacks
I haven’t messed around much with the other 3 characters yet, but they all interest me and have some interesting assists. Thoughts?
If you put Nova on that team, you’d be playin’ my top three favorite Marvel characters which should automatically give you the win in every matchup imaginable.
That said, putting MODOK on that team would be a bad thing to do because all of those characters would be point men as in none of your guys would be able to hold their ground on their own in quite a few match ups. I’mma also say no to Iron Fist as well for the same reason. Not too sure about Frank right now.
Best I can think of that does what you’re wanting to do and would make the team better as a whole would be Doom, Iron Man, Hawkeye (not too sure about his anchor status right now, though) and Sentinel. Other than that, I’d say just keep playin’ around in training mode, online, and with friends.
I don’t know about Nova as anchor lately. I thought he can burn up red meter on certain moves, but he burns it on EVERYTHING! That’s a problem. Decent synergy with thor, but I’m reevaluating Nova now.
Hawkeye as anchor is blah IMO. Great assist (just like I thought), he needs assist to cover his shit when he is throwing arrows out.
I feel RR is really good anchor ATM.
Man, I think I’m gonna have to drop Strange from my team to get the most out of it right now. I’m likin’ Thor/Strange/Nova, but right now, only Thor and Nova are leeching off of Strange without Strange gettin’ anything out of the deal. Makes me sad. So who out of the new characters look like a good buddy for Thor? I fiddled around with Hawkeye and like the way he does his thing. Anyone try Ghost Rider yet? Ah well, back to the lab.
I love Strange…but he’s harder then most people thought he would turn out. Strange is an excellent point character, that needs strong assist though. I love playing with him…but I’m like you in-regards to being with Thor.
Me and Viktorkain preached Hawkeye as an excellent assist character from the get-go, and he really feels that way. He’s hella good (annoying) by himself too. But much like Strange, still needs assist to cover basis.
And Ghost Rider is legit. I love the character, and when I first saw his sluggish demeanor and mobilty, I really didn’t see him helping Thor out. But testing thor/GH is decent…testing Thor/Hawkeye/GH on the other hand, is a great synergy-based team IMO ATM. They cover basis pretty well, especially Hawkeye/GH. I gotta test it more myself, but that’s a good team at the moment. GH as anchor I’m not sure of ATM either.
Very interesting. I honestly didn’t see myself gettin’ all that into Ghost Rider because of his style of play, but I’m sure it’s somethin’ I could get used to, and if he helps out Thor, then I know I’m gonna like him. Just fiddled around with Hawkeye a bit, and man, that assist is golden, and his playstyle is fun. Kinda hard to get used to his command jumps, but once you do, you just go to town.
I would consider GR with Thor/Hawk as zoning specialty only team. A secondary team to play around with. If he’s not you style (in alot of cases, he isn’t for me either),then have in the back-burner of teams. I know we all want to use the new characters, but Thor already had some great assist from the Vanilla cast. UMvC3 is supposed to be zoning heavy, so indulge in that. But since Thor can play zoning and rush decent, you can alter the team pretty well.
I don’t know. Strange’s assists just go too well with Thor for me to consider giving him up right now. All three are active for a long time giving time for Thor to even charge his ground mighty strike or smash. Especially those green bolts. I like not only being able to get in with Thor but having the option to set up his command grab or armored attacks, Strange’s assists let him do that.
Thinking of replacing Doom (Doom missiles assist) as my anchor with Nova (thus copying Legendary’s team I guess) because I use Doom’s missiles and having two assists that are active for so long is a little dangerous to me.
I am currently Running Three Thor teams … Still working out the Assists but The one that I am having the most success with is Thor(Smash)/Strange(Bolts)/dormammu(Pillar) The Teams Synergy is pretty nice and The Bolts do Allow you to fully charge anything and pretty much be safe all the time… Strange is the weakest link on the team seeing as I am still learning him but Dorm and Thor were my A team in vanilla so I can pretty much squeak one out without ever having strange enter battle… The team I think is the best is Thor/Hawkeye(Greyhound or Kamakazi)/Nova(Centurion Arts) That Nova Dive kick assist is so beast for Thor it hits overhead and groundbounces if you catch them in the air it sets up so much shit … and also lets you do some interesting things in combos. But hawkeye is a serious problem I switch between him and nova as anchor and I do better when hawk is anchor simply because Nova and Thor both can beat an opponent into submission with their high damage combos. If they Die Hawkeye comes in with plenty meter and can just insta punish just about everything. I play a very very reset heavy Thor and rarely use meter seeing as most resets kill the opponent anyways… I do however use an air mighty tornado reset When I am kind of desperate… I tried Ghost rider and I just did not like how he felt but on the same token I am going to learn strider that Varja assist with thor is godlike.
So having played online a bit, I think I’m set on my main team of Thor (Mighty Smash)/Hawkeye (Triple Arrows)/Nova (Human Rocket Punch). My Thor can about one shot any character, especially the new ones with their 750k health (what’s up Vergil), and once I got that momentum goin’ here come the resets. It’s cool because even when I mess up a combo by forgetting to put in the Mighty Strike, Mighty Hurricane is always there to bail me out. So good, and if Thor goes down, Hawkeye knows how to put in just enough damage right now to keep me in the lead. That instant aiming arrow of his is so good, and his command dashes into the poison arrow. So good. I can do pretty good zoning with him because he can cover the skies and the area in front of him so well, but when he gets hit an’ dies, Nova is absolutely beastly when it comes to clean up. He hits just about as hard as Thor and in X-factor level 3, his speed makes practically all his approaches safer. All it takes is one good high low mix up, and that’s a dead character, and that level 3 Gravimetric Blaster is so good with the chip it does. My only complaint for Nova right now is his High Speed Tackle isn’t as fast as I thought it’d be (start up wise anyway). It goes through every projectile, but sometimes those projectile hypers hit so fast, I can’t pull it off. Just a minor timing adjustment on my part, but once I get it down, everyone better watch out. I’m lovin’ the way this team works in every way, shape, and form. It has an answer to everything right now.
Damn you thats my team >:(
No wonder I like it so much.Y’know, I think I subliminally picked it because of you puttin’ in my head how good Hawkeye’s assist was gonna be. It’s your fault for bein’ in my head. Well, it was bound to happen. You and me both declared usin’ Nova and Thor together no matter what, and this is what came of it in the end. Man, triple arrows is so good. Hawkeye comes in and gets out so quick, I love it.
I was fooling around in arcade mode last night, kept Thor on point and just ran through assists. Iron Fist’s Rising Fang (when blocked) runs a character right into the corner. In actuality it worked against me in every instance that the assist landed. However, in the metagame - no one likes being in the corner. Keep popping that assist and I’m fairly certain the enemy will start coming to you.
Been practicing with iron fist - B/ Thor - b/ dr doom - a
The thc between iron fist and thor is really good. Doing iron fist combo 1 from the guide after ending it thc into Thors mighty hurricane or mighty thunder does about 850k and up. Also doing Thors bnb into iron fist volcanic roar does about the same damage as well. If you can corner combo them and then use iron fists assist and do a full charged light mighty strike into mighty hurricane. if you wait for it to finish you will have them on the other side you can thc into iron fists level 3 it does about 1.17 million in damage. Also if you thc into volcanic roar you can get 880k and up too.

i really like thor/hulk/nemesis for the quintessential big guy team, but nova/nemesis/thor seems more effective overall. nova may not be a “big” character, but he certainly packs hits like one. BLAOW! guardian of earth, guardian of the universe, guardian of…umbrella bioterrorism? i love it when a plan comes together. -_- arthur anchor on bottle toss as an alternative.
Thor/Wesker/Strange is pretty godlike.
I had real trouble getting in against a GR/Arthur/Modok/Firebrand/Hawkeye team. However, once I was in, I was in.
2 hours of training, 2 hours online. Picked up a lot today, and it’s still early.
