God bless America - potential best movie ever?

I saw it on VOD. Good flick. Not laugh out loud funny but well made and makes a good point. A little heavy handed to say the least.

Im too dumb to peel through the onion. Is this a a deconstruction of counter culture or mainstream culture or both? Looks interesting. Only way to find out is through watching it.

I’m willing to bet, based on the footage, that this movie is calculated to appeal simultaneously to two contradictory audiences. The first is the audience who will receive this as a satire of mass media and celebrity, who will undoubtedly delight in the vicarious pleasure of the protagonist’s warpath. The second is the audience who will, just as correctly, receive the movie as a satire of the first audience.

Many movies mix messages like this. It’s called pandering. The filmmakers know that there is money to be made in making the movie is about two completely different things, because it scratches the itches of people with differing mindsets. The catch is, the movie ultimately can’t commit to a moral position. Without a moral position, there’s no real edginess, aside from the rather puerile faux-offensiveness of unlikely people shooting other unlikely people. The movie will be deceptively safe and toothless to all but the people who were never even in the target demographics to begin with.

In summation:

Shit looks retarded.

It might not be pandering. It could just be a commentary on how there are no binaries any more. Coutnerculture has fused with mainstream culture, and this is just commentary on society as iti is right now. Most likely though, I’m wrong and i’m just mumbling. Seems like a gun movie tbh.

I just am too cynical and upset with all the unimportant crap in this country that the people are focused too much to even think about passing this movie up. Even if ends up not being that good cause it overshoots its message at some point, its very premise and chance to vent my frustration in a wholesome satirical way warrants a watch from me.

Yup. This looks like a dumbass flick that only the pessimistic, cynical whiners out there will appreciate.

“Omg! The world is getting worse every day! people are getting stupider! Music is getting more commercialized, etc”

Finally a film that speaks to the modern condition of knowing the world is fucked but being too scared and powerless to do anything about it.

Theres a crazy old guy 30 years ago talking about how rock music & dem’ new fangled vidyo games are ruining america and making people dumber, but most think they’re powerless to stop it.
