Gleam of Force thread

I know that this isn’t the right thread, but Senko is still awesome. Anyone wanting to get into it:

**Here’s a thread that tells the basics (and some advanced stuff) for the game: **http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=10142

I don’t know. Madoi and Papeko look like they’re about 10 XD

By the way, I babelfished the character profiles from the website. Just in case anyone’s interested, here’s a rundown of the characters, as well as my own personal thoughts about how they play:

Kanae - the main heroine. She takes up boxing so she can be more like her sister Negai, who saved her from a truck accident before disappearing. She searches for Negai while attempting to become a good woman boxer. Her speciallity is getting along with people and she dislikes (or likes, I can’t tell) angel cream donuts. Easy character to use. Very good at comboing and deals a lot of damage. Mid speed, good defensive options. An all rounder.

Futaba - A rythmic gymanst who wants to start her own martial arts based on a fusion of gymnastics and boxing. She rivals Kanae and is a charismatic but annoying person. Her hobbies are old book collecting and she dislikes rough people. A bit more technical than Kanae. She has some grabs and her damage output is exchanged for crazy comboes. She’s the only character who can’t combo out of infight, which is just sad.

Papeko - a vagrant entertainer. The sock puppets on her hands are actually parasetic space life forms and control her body, but she’s completely aware of this and is always in a state of panic or stress. The kappa and Bull also abuse her quite regularly seemingly for being a coward. She likes curry and dislikes fearful people (lol, hypocrisy much?) Very hard character to use. She’s weak, slow and has poor range. Good combos, but they’re ruined by resisting, and has very poor endurance. She has some gimmicks, but right now is looking like a joke character.

Ammy - a detective from outer space who likes observing humans and popularising ‘space boxing’ (which is just straight boxing but with electricity). She’s an enthusiastic person but the other characters all seem to find her irritating. She seems to get flustered easily too. Hobbies include human observation and drinking coffee, but she doesn’t like garlic. Very fast, jabby character with weak damage, but she gets “zap” points that let her power up her attacks and inflict paralysis on the opponent, which is a really nasty affliction. Once she gets momentum, she becomes really powerful and really brutal.

Minami - housewife who also takes karatae. She uses a special breathing technique to punch with incredible power, but is very timid and apologetic by nature. Likes arum root jelly and dislikes harsh people. Most powerful character in the game in terms of damage. Her single hits are crazy strong and have great range, and inflict a lot of stun so she can combo. She’s really slow, but still very solid. One of the best characters at the moment.

Makoto - leader of a high school support group. She’s Chinese and uses a fighting style that uses one’s voice as a weapon and various high-defense movements with a military theme. She prides herself in her defensive ability, and speciallises in falling asleep anywhere. Hobbies include shogi bath (or something) and she dislikes firearms. Not as powerful as Minami, but more defensive. Has some really great combos and still deals a lot of damage. She is the master of super armour, making her more of a tank character. Great range.

Ashita - psycho tomboy who has partial blindness due to a car accident, but not bad enough for her to be invalid. Has pyrokinetic abilities and loves baseball. She wants to beat the champion and make everyone her slaves and force them to play in her baseball team (except Ammy). Baseball aside, she also likes manga and anime and dislikes having to act like an adult. I can’t decide if she’s good or terrible. She deals a lot of damage but her combos are quite weak to resisting. Her moves are very wild and punishable, but hurt a lot. She also can burn the opponent with her parries, causing theirl health to slowly sap. however, her parries suck compared to other characters.

Yuki - a female wrestler and also an idol. She has her own manager who follows her around in the background. She is obsessed with only beautiful females. Her hobby includes a beautiful girl figurine collection, but she also dislikes beautiful girls (jealousy?) I find her incredibly creepy. She’s a grappler and is very difficult to play. Incredibly slow and almost as powerful as Minami, but trickier.

Madoi - a shinobi girl who likes raising lizards. She’s a savage bitch with a very short temper to match her short body. Gets angry at everyone somepoint in the arcade mode. Her upward parry is the only attack in the game that draws blood. Very very fast and very very mean. Her combos go on for ages, even with resist, but she doesn’t deal much damage and has poor range. Her speed and infight ablitiy more than make up for it. The only character who can jump at will.

Ruki - annoyingly calm samurai girl who carries a broken sword. Instead of her sword, she uses a fast hand-striking technique to simulate a blade. Hobby is being in a band and winning at rock-paper-scissors. Current champion of the tournament that the other characters compete in. Very very powerful with the best range in the game, but kind of slow. Not as broken as she looks.

Negai - Kanae’s older sister who fights in a heavier weight class. Unlockable final boss character. Very fast and very powerful, she moves so fast that her fists just look like illusions. She likes avoiding the subject of certain conversations, and likes wandering about doing her own thing, despite making everybody worry.

Katsuko sensei - scary old hag who does the bonus stages. Unplayable as of yet, but sounds and combat noises for her have been found with rips. So she may be patched in.

Netplay is good from what I hear. The only issue I have with it is that you need to be playing with a joystick or else netplay won’t register.

You also can’t use netplay if you torrented the game, because it works based on ID codes and if you have the same ID code as someone else, it won’t go through. :stuck_out_tongue:

This statement should be clarified.

It goes that when you Counter Hit somebody, you get to chain the Counter Hitting attack into another move (even ones that it normally can’t chain into) for free. Similarly, the automatic counter attacks from Parry also get to be chained into other attacks for free.

Minami is also pretty buff. Because of her 1B, you can build a game around turtling with her better than with most: 1B comes out so fast that people throwing jabs can’t do the tactic of jab, see if armor, cancel jab into Parry; 1B chains into all other B normals and will combo in most cases; 1B is a B button normal, so combos from it can inflict Knock Out… Minami also has anti cross-up/backstab 7B, and she can anti-air with 9B or 2B (via autoguard on 2B). Once Minami has 1 super stock, you’d be stupid to try to dash through her for a backstab because her ground slam can one-hit KO you even when Minami like 80% life.

Ruki is full of BS. Negai has the best jab in the game, but Ruki’s toki spear super is just so damn good. It punishes, it sets up backstab/wallslam combos, it electrifies the opponent…

Negai’s time freeze punch super is also pretty incredible. Altogether you have like…what…4 frames to deal with a stragith-to-the-face punch that deals loads of damage? If she activates that any time the opponent is not in a neutral stance, they’ll get owned.

I actualy didn’t know about DI in this game…wow, that actually makes it even HARDER to pin down B&Bs and make long combos that work.

Well, I won’t be playing this game. My computer can’t run it fast enough (barely runs it at all). How does this game have higher requirements then any other doujin game?

Because French Bread doesn’t compress any of their images and music, that’s why.

Did you make sure to go to Config->Screen Mode->BG Stile->Simple (default set to Normal)?

This makes a HUGE performance increase in computers that would otherwise have a hard time running the game.

The more I watch match videos the more hilarious I think this game is.

It’s at it’s funniest when you have volume and can hear the character voices, which I think make up a great deal of the humor.

some people say the ID code isnt a form of copy protection; its more like a way to differentiate between players. i wonder if the game would let you type in random numbers and letters for the ID code because then that wouldnt be a problem anymore

the game is good for lolz, i landed a random down strong counter hit with boxer, did my “<50% life” super, and took off an entire lifebar

pilebunker is awesome, i did like jab x5, forward jab, forward strong into super and took off around half life

Make sure you have the current version, then do that again in training mode, but set the opponent to type A resist. See if it still does so much damage. :stuck_out_tongue:

A lot of the more broken comboes in this game become useless if the opponent resists all the attacks correctly. But overall, yeah, attacks do a lot of damage.

For those who want the current version, you get it here:

Okay. Fine. As much as I hate the appearance I’m gonna play it. Might as well give it a shot. Gameplay is interesting.

Ah yeah, by the way, add me in the “i cant run this thing on my PC” list too… and yeah, i played it with all in “low quality” modes, sad but true.

Still i like the game a lot, the “Ouendan” char is awesome.

Is there like a beginner guide to this game because I think I know what I’m doing, but I’m not sure because I’m still wrapping my head around all these games about little girls.

Read what I wrote:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg9zdqk8_7dwxm5jgx&hl=en

There’s a character-specific mistake in there regarding one of Ruki’s moves, but the general system information is correct.

  1. Pretend it is SFII with metal character mode
  2. Learn both parry and evade frames.
  3. Copy Nightmare and Hell A.I. when it comes to naked counters
    4.???
    5.(Emotional) profit

that “profit” meme was catchy before it was used 98098230948239084392 times on 2993809284039842 different forums

down strong counter hit to super super does 70-80% instead of 100. random counter hit super super does about that much as well.

jab x3, towards jab, towards strong, super (with pilebunker) does 25-30% instead of 50%.

what the hell is boxer’s towards A+B super supposed to do anyways? as far as i know the only use for it is to gtfo of the corner.

So this is a boxing game? I love boxing games. VB and Fight Night own my souls, would I like this?

That’s the trial version 2 on the site?

And the setup keeps crashing on me.

@DL

Ehh, at least I didn’t use bad advice dog, the spiritual sequel.

I think Negai’s super is for exactly what it is. Just a ES version of her standing B. Slight more damage, happens near instantly, almost always unexpected, etc.

@Pablo

Depends if you don’t mind infinite offensive stamina, and a bit of Marvel in your boxing. With one person using kicks, one using power grapples, and only four actually box (well the fourth one uses Kyokushin Karate if I’m not mistaken).

@HT

The 90MB one? Yeah. But I never had crashing with English or Japanese settings, so I wouldn’t know how that happens.
