I believe we saw the same thing, and Drac might have been recording as well (were you Drac?)
Is there any chance you can put the debug server back up? Then we’d have three potential replays to check against next time(mine, his and what the server “sees”).
Instead of dropping at the first sign of ghosting though, I think we should stick around and see how long it takes it clear up, or if it does. The last time we saw an extended bout of this, it lasted a minute and cleared up, and the game continued on fine for awhile after.
Here are some patterns that seem to be consistent:
–Back-Forward directionals (LEFT and RIGHT in MAME) cause Fierce Punch to ghost out (Button 3 in MAME)
–Slide above mentioned Roundhouse and Jab (buttons 6 and 1 in Mame) ghosting each other out, Shock/Sinala mentioned Run and High Punch (buttons 6 and 1 in Mame) ghosting each other out in UMK3.
–Super jump also happens unexpectedly (marvel games), but because this can be the “3 Kicks” command as well as DOWN, UP directionals, it’s hard to say what’s triggering what.
–When things are REALLY bad, neutral (touching nothing) seems to shift to up. I’m going to check the old replay since this may be player side-specific (e.g.: Player one neutral shifts to right, player two neutral shifts to up).
Usually when I ghost in kof2k2, my right button makes my character jump to the right and do a C(fierce punch, button 3). The C comes out immediately so I assume upback+HP are triggered at the same time. That’s the main problem I noticed, I’ll experiment to see what other buttons glitch up.
Yeah we weren’t desynced. The replay i have of the instance described above works alright for a little while and then it just botches for one reason or another and mame gives me an error. (May have been because we were messing with save states online…Akuma is impossibe to get in that game online without them)
I’ve had ghosting happen other games like last blade 2 a few times as well. What usually happens to me in tht game is I will hit back and the opponent will constantly do deflect (button 4 in mame)
Don’t know if it matters but X-Men COTA and Last blade 2 are the only games i have ever had ghosting troubles with. Also GW1 and A3d are the only servers i’ve ever had ghosting happen is as well.
i’ve posted a couple times about buttons on my stick stop working for no reason when i start new games. the problem come from pressing your keys repeatedly from the time immediately after you click start game and continues up until the “waiting for other player” message disappears and the game starts. any button you press in this period will stop working when the game loads.
AHA, you know what…I think this solves my problem when it comes to my kick buttons mysteriously not working when I try to record on mame. I remember I used to hold LShift + LCtrl until the game started, and those are used as multiple button mappings for kicks.
it happens the most. it’s known that players that use keyboards use hotkeys for buttons like 3p and 3k cause you can’t press down 3 of those and do other things cause the keyboard doesnt recognize it. maybe that mapping causes ghosting in matches?
my parallel port psx converter vs usb converter
doesnt happen much if at all, maybe like one instance on one input in about 5-8 matches.
parallel port converter vs keyboard
happens all the time and it’s out of control, it’s only gotten worse since kaillera made changes with that new input delay setting.
parallel port vs possible other parallel port or usb converted arcade stick or direct usb controllers (meaning no converter the software itself is usb)
practically non-existant.
i found out that ghosting usually occures when real close to the opponent and both are trying to do something at the sametime. cr jabs turn into sweeps and the person NOT doing the “sweep”, can’t block the “sweep” at all, they’re forced to stand up and it always hits.
bottom line:
maybe it’s just MAME in general that’s having troubles with ghosting? next time i play i will experiment with one of those old fba emulators.
connection type? Good or Excellent?
AND/OR
different types of mediums used to use your specific controllers/sticks/keyboards aswell as drivers for them.
I’ve had this happen to me alot. Some times I’ll be playing a match then press c.mk and do a dragon punch for no reason what so ever. I don’t know of any way to fix it though.
It is to do with encoding standards/costs etc and should not be a problem. Think MAME like all other emulators out there reads the entire keyboard and pad states at once from direct input or whatever package it uses before the frame and and converts them to port values. Something like “using a router” or “had msn on” would sound more realistic than this.
just so we’re clear, when i say vs keyboard users i’m thinking “*=/=keyboard vs keyboard users”
so you call bullshit on what i’m saying, cause that’s what i’m reading.
especially when there’s no CONCRETE evidence of what really causes ghosting. cause if there was, the problem would be solved.
instead we all have inquisition. so you call bullshit on what’s fair game in the search for info, without any proof as to why my findings are unrealistic.
if i’m incorrect, than i am incorrect. that’s fine, i’m just trying to search for reasons as to why this ghosting is happening so it can stop. instead of stomping everyone else’s theories, because it’s(the ghosting) still different for everybody.
even when those factors have been thought out, and especially when you test this while signed off of those programs and being directly connected to cable modems.
instead of defeating all of our theories as to why it’s happening, without providing hard reasons, YOU(0746) all knowing, cure the ghosting problem, please.
How kind of you. Thanks for all the appreciations but I was just cooperating by eliminating unrealistic scenarios out of our equations.
You heard what moosehead said. “Emulinker” ghosting problem. i.e. its not like how it would happen with normal server. If all the reasons u’ve provided were valid, people would ghost even if moosehead coded gold with diamonds because there would always be a group of users who would use keyboards or parallel port converters or MAME.
