GGXX/#r: Zappa love

Ok, I’ve recently changed my opinion on the Dog and base Zappa.

Base Zappa is starting to show some very suprising power. attacking a grounded opponent >(air) K>S>k (land)> 6k>2HS>Centi summon…However i’ve found that after the summon i have a much harder time getting in on an opponent without zappa’s crazy kick invulnability followed up by the slash.

This is why the Dog is Awesome, Don’t loose an attack and the Dog has Some amazing setups for unblockable loops(the best kind) with either 2D when you are set up right on you opponent with zappa and the dog following with 2H is very nice here for the damage and the stager. Another Good use of the dog i’ve found is for a Fast 5D in combination with zappa attacking Low, then following up with a good zappa combo…Or Jumping over them and pushing them back into the dog for additional 5D comboing…

(I’ll try to edit in some strings in here, in the standard format when i get them more clear cut :D)

I tried doing this head on into Vipers a few times today…Got stuffed every time…Are you talking about the begining of the viper(say on thier wakeup) or later on to catch a Cross screen viper? When i tried it i would do the kick animation and then sol would go right threw it(no hits to either side) then the upturn on the viper would hit zappa…at least thats what it looked like

The Grand Viper has startup invincibility, like all of Sol’s moves, after that you should nail him. The 5k works like Bridget’s butt attack, goes right over almost any low attack.

And are you talking XX or #R, because Dog rocks in XX, it’s only really good in #r.

XX Player

btw Quic, you’re making improvements but there are times when you lose 50% of your health without even summoning something…know how to use each summon in given situations, and you will be a major threat. You and Paul should meet each other if you want to talk Zappa, he’s great :X

Keep up the good work guys, very VERY nice stuff indeed.

Just wanted to bring something up since it happened to me last week and I found it very funny.

Like I said before I’m an ok Exclusive Zappa Player 80% win (Thank you) so last week at the arcades… some guy challanges me.

Zappa vs Zappa.

I have no words for this. The game was MESSED UP.

We finished the first round with the winner having a pixel of health left… looking at each other (complete strangers) and I said: “Yo, this is fucked up.” The other guy agreed and we laughed. Played a couple of games with the guy and at the end, when I had to leave, the feeling of playing another Zappa player was funny, great, fucked up and mutual.

Bah and let me give you a Raoh combo while am at it.
I’m not really sure I think it went something like this:

Raoh: QCF+S,2+S,S,S,QCB+S,HCB,6+S.

Zappa Ownz!

I LOVE ZAPPA V ZAPPA MATCHES!!!1111

Anyway, one of my friends plays a great Zappa, we’re about the same level, though I think I’m slightly better just cause I beat him about 6 out of 10 times, I just love it when both people have ghosts, cause you know exactly what the other person’s going to do and things are just flying all over the screen. Absolute most fun ever: double Raou match OMFG this is a crazy cool thing to see, if anyone in here ever gets the chance to do ZvZ match take it, it’s incredibly fun

Zappa can run under the butterfly…6h-GP’s a ghost and Kous, only to get hit again with another ghost:frowning:

pats poor cary on the back
it’s ok… but i do have some more bad news…
bridget 2k’s under the butterfly.

it’s true

in anycase, have fun this memorial weekend alex :stuck_out_tongue:

Yo Dan, finish your summon guide you slut!

I RUSHDOWN RAOH WITH RECKLESS ABANDON AND WIN- TOPPEST TIER STRAT DO IT KIDDIES OR YOUR MOTHERS WILL BEAT YOU

I’ll play people for money at EVO in #R, Zappa vs. Zappa.

Stupid relatives in san diego, I wanna play #R this weekend, not hang out with 10-year-olds :frowning:

Cool, I’ll play ya, best 2 out of 3 for $10?

No one and I mean no one who knows what they’re doing is going toe to toe with Raoh period.

That’s not always the case. I play Anji, and I have a friend that plays a really good Zappa. He loves when people try to block Raou. He pressure you until he gets you into a corner, then he tries to get you to block low. If you do, he pops you up and hits like a six hit air combo, that takes about 75% life on average characters. So I pick my spots to attack, I just have to be cautious. If I have tension, I try to bait him into doing a mid attack, to pull off a guard point super. It’s kind of risky, but it does good damage. It also keeps him from rushing me down with reckless abandon. I forgot to mention that, if you block, a good Zappa player will make you either, burn all of your tension FDing or if you don’t FD, take massive chip damage. Either way it’s not a good outcome.

Gamecombos is back up!

I need to bump this up so I have an easier time accessing the thread, and hopefully there’s new posts.

I’m sorry, but Dangief; you putting Raou BELOW Ghost is absolutely sad. Raou is WAY too good. Ghost does 25%, Raou does 100%. Raou has full screen, almost instant attacks, 2 perfect anti-airs, a perfect fireball (and okizeme attack) and one of the best mix-up games in the game.

What does ghost have? Some boring IAD mix-ups with j.hs, a corner semi-trap that almost every character can escape in 3 reps, and maybe one good mix-up (s.p -> 6HS).

I’d rather have Raou ANYDAY over ghost, especially against top tier characters.

Raou > Dog > Ghost > Sword > None

Ok, my thoughts on Raoh.

Firstly he does posses the trump card of damage. Everything Raoh does does amazing damage if you land it, close to 100% if you get the loop. Also, Raoh does handle rushdown very well… Last Edgy is the be all and end all of uppercuts. His range is also very good as well, but his long range moves (HS, 6HS) come out at below average speed and can at most lead to the super (which ain’t bad in itself). To really bring the pain you still need to get into Last Edgy or Dust range. This forces you to rush and while Raoh has a much better high/low game, it is still pretty basic. The fireball is average at best outside of the infinte. SLOOOW to start, doesn’t go full screen. It is decent as a meaty attack though, but times for that are rare becase you aren’t going for a knockdown with Raoh, you’re going for the kill.

Overall, the thing that holds him back is that he resets the match. The opponent will stop rushing you unless they’re suicidal, forcing you to come to them. It really isn’t that difficult to wait out the 15 seconds. Because of his Dust he can crack a turtle effectively, but your options are still limited and against some characters (Sol in particular because of VV) this can get you comboed which means bye bye Raoh. I love Raoh, he is the best character in the game, and he will benefit you with damage or a loss of tension from FDing, but his damage is hit or miss. Sometimes you kill, sometimes you don’t, sometimes you don’t even get him in a match.

The ghosts are just more relyable. Sure they only do 25%, but they’ll do that consistently, set up for more mixup (boring as it is, the j.HS stuff works, especially if you play high/low games afterwards) really screw with the other guy’s game when he’s haunted, are amazing at raising the guard guage for more damage, and give you more flexibility with zoning/wakeup/keepaway because you aren’t forced to rush because they’re going away. And that corner trap is an almost guaranteed flashin guard guage that can be very difficult to escape for some characters if you can airthrow.

So I still stand by the ghosts NARROWLY edging out Raoh overall. Raoh owns, but because the opponent knows he’s going away, hhe can wait him out and escape the damge, of course if they don’t… good game, kthanksbye. Ghosts will consitently give you the goods. Simple as that. Sure I wouldn’t trade in Raoh for ghosts, but overall, the ghosts get you more consistent wins.

Yeah, it happens…Your playing zappa now so you can understand a bit how it can happen.

IE: Get rushed down real good, try to use the Centi summon to get out, get Suffed cause the damn Dog/sword/ghosts randomly poped as you woke up…And then try again, and again a random ghost pops…Ughh…Then you “wait” out the wakeup to see is a ghost pops, Nothing poped, but you got hit by somones high low game…==GG zappa.

I watched you learn this against May’s dolphin today  BTW when you get the Dog and you are doing a Rush down i see you using 6d(the dog pounce thing) when they are in range for an unblockable setup with a 5d(dog) + 2P…Try it, once they are down…you can easily own half thier life

I’m getting jealous though, your sword zappa is already better then mine

My problem with zappa(and most of my other chars) is i’m just not patient enough to wait for them to come to me when i should.

Anyway, How do you guys deal with good pokers like axl and bridget? Still having major problems keeping a summon up let alone getting in on em.

I just don’t see it. I play Zappa against Eddie, Axl, Sol and Testament on a regular basis, and once people start being able to block Ghost’s mix-ups, they become less and less effective. They are very good at preventing people from getting in, and allowing you to keep your distance… but again, I think Raou is way better.

Raou’s slash attacks are the reason you never use s.HS or c.HS on their own. c.S -> s.HS -> super or uppercut loop is godlike, because s.S has the most ridiculous hitbox for a fast attack. Add in the fact that it has very very little recovery time from it’s active frames, and it’s a beast of an attack. 2-1 into fireball if they’re blocking it (punch the fireball so it moves).

Also, the other aspect of Raou is the fact that you cannot do ANYTHING against him. You are forced to block, and Zappa just destroys you if you do that (literally!). What if you think he’s going to throw you, so you backdash? s.HS is probably one of the best option selects for him, because if you throw, dope! Loop him. IF you don’t, s.HS will beat any character’s backdash (maybe not potemkins?) and it also beats any attack they attempt to throw out. So, maybe I’m BAITING you throw an attack out by running at you, just to uppercut you? Oh well! No biggy there either. Raou with 100% meter can make you block an’ uppercut, just to RC it at the very frame you attack and do it again, leading to uppercut loops.

But everyone’s entitled to their option, I just think Raou > Dog > Ghost.

Yes, yes I agree with just about everything you say, and besides there’s no point to arguing… we need to learn more about the character and find out what to do with each of his summons, doesn’t matter which one is better cause you’re stuck with it when it comes out. I don’t get why internet forums bring this out in me…

Anyways, I think the best way to get this stuff rolling will be summon specific threads as opposed to one big one. I’m going to start these on gamecombos since there’s already a lot og good Zappa stuff on that site. I will be counting on you guys to contribute though cause I’m going to Alaska this summer and I’m not sure if I’ll have acess to the game or even the internet.

ZAPPA OWNS YOUR SOUL FOR FREE!

Dangief, ive never ever used zappa but im considering him now. How does he play exactly? is he a pure keep away character? a mix of rushdown/keep away? is he a “chipping damage” character? just how is he exactly played? well if it would help, my favorite characters are: Testament, Millia, and Zato (eddie).

He will be the weirdest character you ever played.

Some people totally hate playing with him, while others cant live witouth him (me).

Oh yeah, you better be fucking owning people at that arcade if you want a chance with Zappa.

Very hard character.
