70% proration and heavy guard bar damage. Can only get ~150 damage off a full 2K combo in the corner.
Way too much guard damage. You should never start any combos with repeated P/K attacks (well, unless they’re near death), as the damage scaling is too much.
iad236k is right here, Baiken doesn’t rely much on knockdowns. The few you do get should be used to apply pressure, since the damage potential for her hard-to-setup mixup is very, very low. Unless you have a good amount of tension to spare, in which case a 2K-5S (blocked) into either 2D or Youzansen RC works decent enough.
low AD PPK is a good tactic. Anyone without a wake up game to speak of has no choice but to block or backdash and in them instances you can always do j.S instead, which will catch backdashers…or better yet, just land and do mat instead. The combos and setups are good too. Starting combos with j.P-P-K is fine if you aren’t spending any tension. Still damage, and if they aren’t guaranteed to tech, then go for it (hell, you can ever get air throw setups after these).
Considering that all of Baiken’s jumping attacks are good ones, may as well make use of them; as they are good for keeping a lot of pressure on the opponent.
2K oh hit almost always leads to knockdown to pressure again. Of course, if there was no proration on the move, players would be advised to do a combo. If they’re at a level where the smallest of combos will kill them, may as well go for it. Other than that, knockdown to a jump mat/AD air string is usually the best thing to do; then you work to get the more damaging combos from there.
If you want to be daring; you could try 2K after knockdown - if they tech up you get an airgrab and if they tech back they fall into the chain.
Oh yeah; another good thing about the low ad j.P-P-K string is that you can just switch in j.D for the j.K - meaning that if you were to start ground pressure again with 2K, j.D will probably hit half of the time. If you think you are guaranteed the j.D if they duck after the couple j.P’s, you can just FRC into Tatami and do whatever you like. If you can squeeze in the j.D after the j.K, it’s a bit stronger.
bakablitz, I do mention airdash oki in the gfaqs thread, but my setup is slightly different. options are:
j.236k on landing
low ad string, 2k > pressure
low ad string > tickthrow
people don’t fall for ad.p vs. 2k mixup; you have to expect that those will be blocked. actually, you should expect that all of BA’s oki is blocked; BA’s oki setups just get you pressure, not combos. and BA can’t maintain decent pressure against a blocking opponent or cash in due to her lack of mixup game, so midscreen pressure usually doesn’t amount to anything unless you can push them to the corner before they escape/counter. the big exception is tickthrows, which is pretty much the only midscreen guessing game I go for except for the occasional TK 623s for free damage.
BA’s air moves are good, but more for combos and pokes than pressure.
ad.p-p-d FRC j.236k doesn’t connect unless you’re in the corner. having your j.d blocked is no fun either, especially in this case since you’re left hanging in the air in front of a grounded opponent.
BA’s big damage comes from 236k (CH, j., or FRC’d), 412s FRC, TK 623s RC in the corner, etc. none of which really have anything to do with knockdowns.
I must sound like a broken record, but I’m convinced that the only knockdowns that really matter to BA are in the corner. my belief is cemented by the fact that the Japanese players generally don’t go for knockdowns and they’re not able to get much out of midscreen knockdowns either.
also, the way I see it, if you’re going for (air)throws and GCs like you should you’ll be getting enough knockdowns anyway to not have to sacrifice combo damage for them.
Hello there, srk GGXXR gosu! :woot:
I’ve some toubles playing Baiken and I’ll appreciate you grately if you’ll help me out. I’ve been playing BA for about half a year and can call myself advanced player (I’m sharon fanboy btw :bgrin: ). But at our last tournament I’ve encountered rather good VE and I realised I can’t stand against him. All my GC’s got stuffed by his 2D, at distance it was nearly imposible to reach him withought eating a ball or a pair :xeye:, iad tatami were extreamly dangerous. I need advices on BA vs VE, especially what to do with his pressure stuff like say “bla-bla->2D->any ball” and how can Baiken antisepate his wake-up game. That VE lerned through C-God’s videos and it’ll be silly to wait for some lame mistake.
