"Gettin' that Bike $!" AE Balrog Match-up Thread

yeh, i found a solution and posted it in the new SRK thread. It’s a custom bbcode, so it might speed up the process. Also i think they changed the max characters for a single post from 15k to 10k :[

Yikes, this is going to take some getting used to… to say the least

They will make the max like it was before I would think.

ibuki is the most retarded matchup. i hate that shit more then guile. once she knocks me down its done. that shit is od. stupid ass kunais man /rant

you’re preaching to the choir. I’m going to wait until AE before I really sit down with Kensou and figure out the character. Although she has a shit ton of setups, i’m sure if you knew them you could block enough times until you got an opening. I’ve had some success with FADC backdash and ex.dash straights, but it only works against SOME of her meaty Kunais and not all :<

Need some helping linking cr.lp/st.lp into cr.RH (sweep). I am on a 360 pad :S

if i do a ex dash straight to get out they do a neck breaker to punish it and im back a square one. i really wanna learn this matchup but man its so hard and awkward. also frustrating

I’m in the same boat, i’m waiting for AE to come out to even touch the matchup. I think if we knew some of the Kunai setups, it’d help in KNOWING (and not guessing) which way to block, so we could deal with the blockstring to frametrap long enough to find an out. Personally, I think most rogs lose the Ibuki matchup because they don’t want to block and try to “get out” of the Kunai mixup when she’s throwing the Kunai versus the block string (myself included).

Switch the heavies and lights to the buttons, mediums to the triggers/bumpers and that might help. You can plink that way. Or you can invest in a fightpad, having all the buttons in the same place gives you ready access to all the buttons, triggers and bumpers are slightly slower when you input them or so I remember.

Yeah, for whatever reason the bumpers and triggers are sluggish. I remember I couldn’t link cr.jab>st.fp with Akuma when I hit R-bumper, but could when I hit the R-trigger. I actually already have the fightpad AND a stick. I’ve found the fightpad bad for playing charge characters because of crappy diagonals, and the stick I’m just not used to. Yeah, its dumb - I know.

i hear you man. the neckbreaker combo ender gives her more pushback? either the neckbreaker or the armor breaker kicks i forgot which one. i was talking to my friend who mains her and i said that sucks for you and he said no its better cause then the kunai mixups will be even more ambigous. i cant even touch this match up either. once i see ibuki on the character select screen i dont even try anymore its so helpless

I don’t know, I think it’s similar to the Honda matchup. Put it this way: mid-range, Ibuki has no safe options to get in, so the matchup from that perspective is A LOT like the Sakura matchup. Her normals have crap range, and you can counter-poke her to death, so she’s not going to want to play mid-screen, or even close footsies with you because she doesn’t have the health to support something like that, so like Blanka, she’s going to resort to shenanigans mid-screen using illusion dash, or walk up dp/throw etc so she can get right in your face and throw you into frame traps and block strings. If you keep the match mid-screen and don’t let her get in the match it brain dead easy; if you hit one or two st.hk or st.hp, they really think hard about getting in and they get desperate. Aside from ex.kunai which was nerfed I believe, she has no options for mid-screen/fullscreen SAFE damage.

I’ve got some really old matches between myself and a Top 10 Ibuki on XBL, he might not be anymore, and it was online, but it still might help. I’ll probably post it eventually along with a Blanka set I had recently.

Just wondering, can you reversal TAP to escape the meaty ambiguous crossup kunais? Or does Ibuki have an OS for that? I seem to recall reading a thread on the Ibuki section, and it said that Rog could TAP out for free… That was back in the first week of SSF4’s release though so it’s probably not accurate anymore.

There aren’t many Ibuki players here, so I don’t have that much experience in the matchup, but the few times I got to play against Ibuki I do remember reversal TAP seemed to be effective for escaping the mixup. It might be that they just weren’t punishing it though.

you can reversal TAP to escape the Kunai, but she can probably ex.neckbreaker to chase you, no O/S necessary. I’m sure there are certain kunai setups where this works 100% and the later as well, but it’s really speculation at this point. Keep in mind TAP only has 18f of invincibility and about 30-35 frames total animation.

Hmm, I’ll give it a try in training mode later when I get home from work.

EDIT: just checked the Boxer section of the Ibuki matchup thread, and the first note is that Boxer can TAP out of the vortex for free. Once again, it’s probably old info so it needs to be verified.

TAP will work sometimes. But sometimes you will TAP into her and she will block and punish. It really depends on what she is trying to do. But it’s worth a try until they see you doing it everytime and start compensating. IIRC

now those are some really sexy spoilers… :]

It seems that the Makoto Safe Jump: fwd throw, cr.mk (two steps), j.hp is a universal 4f safe jump. Works against Guile’s flash kick, Deejay ex.jackknife maximum and Guys ex.hurricane kick. (Ken’s ex and mp.dp too)

I’m sure someone will figure out how to counter some of ibuki’s shinanigans come this years evo. I bet there is people that know stuff right now but nobody’s posting in the rog forums.

Dafro had a pretty lengthy post in the last MU thread, i’ll try to find a link in a bit. I haven’t gone through it yet, because some of the setups have changed with her changes in AE and i didn’t want to spend too much time in something that’s not the same anymore.

Edit: The post is here
**I haven’t tested any of this, but I do trust Dafro, i’m sure someone could confirm if they felt so inclined.

This is probably old news, but i’ll post it again: cr.mp rapes Yun’s dive kicks. At a distance for sure.
