"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

haha, I couldn’t resist. I don’t have much experience with Dong, but my grant getting rushed down by Feint cancels by KenmasterX’s Terry awhile back all I can think of is: Just defend the feint canceled attacks, which makes things that are normally safe/advantageous less so, giving you time to stick out an A or B attack (like Terry’s shoulder cancels and burn knuckle). This was especially tough with Grant because he can’t get out easily unless he has meter - his SRK doesn’t have enough (any?) invul frames to break the loop if Terry gets him in the corner.

The second thing I can think of is pay attention to the strings and recovery in the feint cancels he’s using and attempt a guard cancel. Outside of that, it may be like the Grant vs Terry scenario for you and the best way to get past the feints is not to get in a situation where your character finds them difficult to deal with.

First thing I would ask is who do you use BoboGlory? Tech Romancer pretty much explained it already. Just watch for FC patterns since most people tend to have them, unless they play smart and don’t do reckless FCing. I can probably help you out better knowing the character you use though.

Well I don’t have a main of my own but I play Terry, Jae, Freeman, Tizoc, Kain, and Butt

Don’t play Freeman, just…don’t. Don’t make the mistake I have.

Which character do you enjoy using the most then? All I can reallly say is just watch for patterns and just keep your guard up. When you see an opening use something that will make them think twice about continuing their block string. Thing is Dong gets pushed back eventually and he can’t really keep your cornered for that long. There are certain gaps to watch out for instance if they go for :qcf: + :snkb: or :qcb: + :snkb:. If you can react to those things quick enough you can easiliy JD then GC those or do a reversal super with good priority to beat them. If they only for FCed normals and try to jump or small jump wait for those openings and JD then throw or GC. You can also reversal with a super as well. Though you have to watch out cause if they play smart they wont go for obvious things like that would just wait after a FC to see how you react.

What is wrong with Freeman?

Butt and Freeman, I’m not sure why its wrong to play him.

Marco has his kick super which is a good reversal to do on reaction if you see Dong do :qcf: + :snkb: or :qcb: + :snkb:. I would try to JD and GC into his fireball when he tries :qcb: + :snkb: or :qcf: + :snkb: on you or if your execution is good try to GC into :dp: + :snkc:, then break, etc. These should help you out but I think the main problem might be that you need to work on your JDing more when getting pressured.

In other news Total Eclipse of SNK 2 is happening next year (3/20/2011) at Club Sega. More info on it here:

??? ?Total Eclipse of SNK??-??? ??? ???

It’s all in Japanese. Should be another good turn out.

Well…the tier list on the wiki was saying Freeman is bottom tier and everyone can jump in on him for free.

^ Not saying I agree/disagree with that BTW. Just saying.

He is pretty free on Knockdown & to jump-ins. His DP sucks & his breaks suck & his QCFx2+B/D is just so terrible. Nothing is more disheartening than actually landing the P Power version of it than having a Gato QCFx2+B out of it after the activation flash then getting punished for landing it. That and he’s pretty shallow, whole entire game plan revolves around Cr. B into Rekka or QCFx2+A. I enjoy playing him but I’m a weirdo and I was mainly joking around about the whole don’t play him thing.

Mainly been messing around with Grant recently, though it’s uncomfortable as hell playing him on a 360 Joytech pad.

Freeman might not have the best specials but he can still handle most of the cast if you know what to expect. He’s mainly a poking character anyways to create openings or make the opponent make mistakes. Each special actually has uses even though they may seem slow for the most part. Also about him being free to jump in on is a lie. Also tier list don’t mean much if the person doesn’t know the match ups.

Then his entry in the SRK wiki needs to be changed (that’s what it was saying).

That aside, thinking of posting the casuals I had the other day in here for a bit of criticism. I play Hotaru, Grant and B. Jenet. The first two are mains, B. I just kinda play around with.

That’s good to hear, I’m absolutely not giving up on Freeman, and would love to play if I ever get the chance to get some tips on how to step up my game.

Noc, Magician and I did up the Wiki for Garou hen the Wiki section first opened. Someone went in there and erased what we added then added their own stuff.

Shoulda figured you would play as Grant.

That is gross. Anywhere with the original information?

Noc and I are going to spruce up the Wiki very soon if we get access.

Anyone have some links to some awesome matches?

Wasn’t really worth it, not many people even bought it so it was pretty rare to find anyone online. The one with the scarf was very cheap though I liked the character that played like Kim but without any charge moves overall.

I started updating the wiki as I type this here. It’s going to take a lot of work getting all the match up stuff written.
