"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

I wouldn’t use it on Jenet unless you know for sure you can land it. The problem is if she does her dive kick while you do it she can escape the counter super with the dive kick. All she has to do is finish the dive kick with the 4th hit and Freeman will just walk behind her while she lands safely. That and the fact that you can hit him out of the super on start up is another reason why it’s risky as hell to use.

butts dp A version is a lil harder to break than the C version as that one never gives problems. and freemans counter super is one of the worst in the game, for reason explained already (slow, can be hit out of, it wont hit til ater a few frames and yadyada).

so in short, who has the best block strongs in the game? terry? kevin? jenet?

I would say Jenet overall has the best block strings. Even though Kevin has his corner guard crush string but the timing has to be perfect for it to work all the time. The thing about Jenet’s is that she can mix it up enough to reset and go into another block string mixup. All her supers knock the opponent down and they can’t roll recover from the supers. That means that she can go into another meaty fireball which puts them in a position to either block/JD the meaty fireball. Even though certain characters can escape the meaty fireball setup with reversal supers. Problem with that though is that all Jenet has to do is walk back slightly then go into another meaty fireball, etc. Her options are just way better in the corner to keep people stuck there.

ALL will be destroyed by me. (evil laughs)

…And that’s why the block strings for those characters should be nerfed (Not going to happen, but I can still point it out). I will undoubtedly be neg-repped for this (not that that’s anything new) but I find it so cheap that all someone has to do is memorize this one combo, and if they get you in the corner, that’s it, you’re fucked. It does take significant skill, but not as much, and if I’m oversimplifying it you have my apologies. It’s like in 3rd Strike, and you master how to hitconfirm almost anything into Chun Li’s SA2, or picking Cable, Sentinel, and Juggernaut and knowing one or two combos, giving you a huge advantage over any character that lacks such easy abilities.

To me, it takes away from strategy instead of building onto it.

It’s not as bad as you think it is though. All you have to really do is not get put into the corner. Not to mention most of everyone has something they can do in the corner, to keep people locked there. Even with Tizoc you can keep people in the corner if you know what they might try to do to get away. You also forget that you have JD and GC to help out of certian things. Sometimes you do have to block and play defensive in order to escape/counter things. It’s not the end of the world if you are put into the corner.

Was playing tonight and something was pissing me off to no end…

How the hell do you break Rock’s 360 grab? Is the timing really weird or something?

As soon as you grab them press :snka: + :snkb: right away to cancel out of it. If you hold :snka: + :snkb: he will do his charge follow up move that you release as they are falling.

Hey Nocturnal, quick question for ya.
Was playing with a friend last night and just trying out different moves we typically weren’t aware of. The Low/High dodge (:snka: + :snkb: / d.:snka:+:snkb:) came up, and we noticed that while Terry can hop over Rock’s fireball that Rock can’t seem to dodge Terry’s fireball with a dodge.

You mentioned on the first page that Rock and Gato are the only ones who don’t leave the ground for their dodge. Does this keep Rock from being able to dodge Terry’s “Rock You”, or am I just whiffing the timing on the :snka: + :snkb:?

Also, it’s come to my attention that without buffering the move prior to JD, Guard cancelling requires ungodly timing to execute right after a JD. O.o I’m wanting to try it on a Seimitsu though, since I hear the closer engage allows quicker execution of moves.

JD is just way better for dealing with fireballs i think. if you mess up you have a good chance of just blocking and it regains health and builds meter, dodge doesnt do that. LEMing over fireballs is really just flashy, and proublby shouldn’t be a big concern.

i don’t think it is timing so much as it is speed. the window for GC is roughly 3s hit confirm level or shorter, so that means you need to buffer if you want to do super or pretty much any move on reaction. the alternative is that you need to predict that you will JD at a certain timing and do the JD and follow with whatever GC move in one motion.

Pretty much what Shiki said is correct. It’s better to just JD than to dodge the fireball. Also yes Rock and Gato’s :snka: + :snkb: moves are only for dodging low normals mainly. Rock’s is more handy since he can cancel into any of his specials/supers to add range. Gato can do the same but he doesn’t really need it at all to be honest. It does beat out all most low normals but it’s pretty slow and has some recovery on it. So if they happen to block it they can probably reversal super you afterwards. It’s better to just use his ground stomp move to punish fireball attemps if they know it’s coming.

Just curious, if GVN Winter Brawl (Philly, PA on Feb 27, 2010) were to run a MOTW tourney, how many people would consider showing?

I’d be down for a MOTW tournament, it’d give me an excuse to start playing that game a lot again.

Cool, i plan on bringing my 360 to so if not enough for a tourney, at least some casuals.

I can sympathizes with you but you’ll just have to accept this game for what it is. This game may not be perfect but its system design is still manageable.

Here’s a few matches from a while back at TRF. The second part failed, so I’ll upload that one when I get a chance too.

I’ll try and catch the videos up from where Noc left off and keep them coming after that.

Hope you all enjoy. :bgrin:

Thanks for adding the matches so far. There are too many tournaments from where I left off since they do them weekly. It’s going to take a long time to catch up. Not to mention on most of the tournaments not all the best players are usually present. The only times you’ll see them all is usually during a 2 vs 2 tournament. I’ll see if I can upload one of the more recent 2 vs 2 which will probably be like a 40 part tournament with 10 mins each split on youtube. Thanks again for the vids.

how do i program the cpu in garou training mode on ps2? i remember reading that you could but i can’t figure it out. when i set select to command i just control my own character and i can’t figure out how to replay so i can’t just use player mode and another controller or anything…

Yeah, it’s gonna be a while to get everything up until recently. The level of play in a lot of the ones I’ve gotten so far isn’t the greatest to say the least. I think the only person I’ve seen is Koba playing Grant in some of the of the matches. I got really crappy quality on a couple of the 2 on 2 events I tried to get, so hopefully you’ll have better luck uploading something that’s viewable for everyone.

Yeah you can put it on player mode and change the second characters command from there. Then just put it back on CPU and you should be all set.

You just leave it at player. All you need to do is have a command button set on the player 2 side once you make the command you want with select. I did post about how to set it up before. I’ll find the link and add it to the first post for those that need help on that.
