Do many people still play this on GGPO? I got GGPO just recently, but it’s fairly difficult to find a match for Garou.
I played one guy, Infamous (I think) who played a lethal Kusnud Butt. I think I may have won a single round in all our games, but the skin of my teeth. It was great to see and play against such high level play in this game!
There’s more people on 2DF generally. There’s some really good people on GGPO. Want to have a match some time?
Edit: The videos above are the things that keep bringing me back into this game. It is still SNK’s timeless masterpiece. It’s funny seeing Butt cancel his Shoryuken like that, and then seeing it being used (albeit differently) in SF4.
Well I’ve managed to brake the C version a few times in training, but not with consistency and I haven’t managed to follow it up with anything yet. Oh, thanks for the tip. I’ll take braking it some time as opposed to braking it never.
Doing his breaks on hit is easy. It’s harder doing his dp + :snka: then break on whiff. Though once you get the timing it aint so bad. It’s all practice really.
Noct we gotta do some more rounds again on live some time. After playing you once that last time I wanted to get a rematch to help improve my game. Plus i really wish you came out this past EVO. DG was staying at my place and another head brought over his cab with MOTW. maybe next year right?
^Just out of curiosity, do they have MOTW tournaments at Evo? I think I remember searching for vids of the game at Evo this year, but couldn’t find any.
EDIT: Quick search reveals it was at Evo 2008, but couldn’t find 09 matched. Did find some from Raging Storm 09 though.
you know using a joystick prevents blisters and other thumb related damage. its why i stuck with stick before i knew of other real benefits to using one.
I don’t care for Joysticks, they put too much pressure on my wrists.
Need some help on what beats what:
Fought a really good Tizoc player and my mains are Gato, Rock, Kain, and Butt. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what beats his Jumping C and Jumping D attacks. What he did was keep pressure on me in the corner, and every time I try to jump he would hit me with Jumping C or D.
Any general advice for fighting Naruto er… Hokutomaru? I want to rush him, but I know he has that annoying vanish and overhead attack that comes out almost instantly.
Well first thing I would do is not to try jumping out of the corner all the time and try JDing the jump :snkc:/:snkd:. If you are using Marco/Rock/Gato try using the high counters from any of them. It depends though if he’s doing the attack early to beat your jump out attempt or late as you are getting up. If he’s doing them as you are geting up then JD is the only real option there. Even Marco’s kick supers might trade with Tizoc’s normals on wake up. If he’s doing the attack early then you can dash/run under him depending on who you are using. When you play agains’t Hoku you just have to watch out for the teleport attack. Then just JD it then punish because Hoku has a long recovery on it if it’s blocked/JDed. It’s not really that fast and it hits high, so you have to just watch out for it. You can also jump up early if you think the teleport move is coming because it appears over your head. Any normal can beat it out when he’s teleporting in. Just try to read his patterns and punish when you can. Don’t try pulling anything risky especially if the player knows how to JD then GC your attacks.
I was considering getting the DC game (only version I can get), but people’ve said that it causes problems with the system, and can lead to full on disc read failure.
Is it a common occurrence?
Should I even risk it for the DC version (not gonna be now at this point, was considering a bit later though), since it sounds like it’s not too hot anyways?
It’s not going to damage your DC. Whoever said that doesn’t know what they are saying. It’s just the game itself is a bad port. Sound out of sync, speed difference, slow downs are bad on the port (like Terry’s stage) and frames missing on certain things. You can still practice combos on the DC version since they all still work on it. It’s just that with the speed difference/missing frames it might feel odd when switching to the arcade version. You can always try out the game on GGPO/2DF, since the games is playable on both.
:dp: + :snka:/:snkc:? Do you mean his dp + :snkb:/:snkd:? Off of his :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd: break you can do specific things, depending how you combo into it or not. I’ll just list the ones I know from the top of my head:
-(Wake up, Mid-screen) JD then GC into :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd:, break ( :snka: + :snkb:), :dp: + :snkd:. Your best option off a GC mid-screen with no meter.
-(Mid-screen) Close :snkc:, :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd:, break ( :snka: + :snkb:), :dp: + :snkd:.
This is the most damaging setup you can do without a super mid-screen. You can also replace close stand :snkc: with close stand :snkd: (first hit), but it does a bit less damage.
-(Mid-screen) Close :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd:, break ( :snka: + :snkb:), :qcb: + :snkb:/:snkd:, :snkb:, then run in as they fall.
This is mainly used if you want to continue rushing the opponent. They can roll recover this one but it puts you at an advantage since they are the ones recovery from a knockdown.
In the corner you have way better options with his :dp: +:snkb:/:snkd: break, because you can combo into is :qcb: + :snkb:/:snkd:, :snkb: loop. You can also combo into his :dp: +:snkb:/:snkd: break from a close :d: + :snkb: anywhere on screen. These should give you some idea on what you can do with Gato’s :dp: +:snkb:/:snkd: into break.
