4AM EST. Been getting back into Garou this past week with a buddy of mine (not that I was ever good to start with), I can’t wait to play it on Live. I forgot how much fun the game was.
hey guys I did some fanart. Not like it matters or anything lol
Where are some good Marco and freeman primers and who are the best players for these characters?
Add this guy
<------- (XBL: assaultarsenal) for those too lazy to look left or up
I’ll have SF4, Garou, Blazblue, and MvC2 (though I suck at the game)
The second post of this thread has info on both Marco/Butt and Freeman. The best Japanese Marco player is probably Koba but he also uses Grant. Freeman pretty much every Japanese player can use him to some extent. I think for starters Yoshimizu’s Freeman is pretty solid. He’s one of the first players to really start showing off that Freeman could hold his own at higher levels. Here are some videos of them using the characters plus other japanese players as well:
Freeman:

Marco:

Those should be enough to show what the characters can do at high level. If you have any other questions just ask here if it isn’t already on the second post.
How funny, Freeman and Marco are my 2 mains
Got any matches of either vs a good Kevin?
Kevin is my worst matchup at the moment, and would like to know how to approach an aggressive one.
Thank you so much Noc, gonna make some popcorn and get confortable to check out all these vids…it’s gonna be a good treat. Hey judge, can we chat up on MSN so u can show me the ropes. I’ve only ever played this game twice on GGPO and for only a few matches so I’m extremly green in this game…in other words I suck.
I’ll be getting this, though it’ll be my first foray into the game. Hope the learning curve doesn’t squash me!
It isn’t compacted with dozen’s of sub-systems, so I would say it isn’t intensly complicated to break into. From the time I’ve had with it, it reminds me a bit of a SF game…sort of like a mix of alpha 3 with 3s or something.
I’ll probably have this tomorrow, but be warned that I will suck hard. GT is over there (<-) and I’ll be playing Hotaru.
It all depends on how the player is using Kevin really. If they are really aggressive with him you will have to play deffensive with Freeman. Once Kevin lands a hit you’ll be getting hurt if they don’t mess up his combos. Especially in the corner is where you really have to watch out for what he will try next with Kevin. Overall you have to really know your pokes with Freeman and need to be able to read the players patterns. Once you stop Kevin’s shut down Kevin’s openings he will have to think of other ways to get in. This video shows a good example of what you should be doing with Freeman vs Kevin.

As for Marco goes it can go either way betweem him and Kevin. Both characters have good high/low mixups and have good combos in the corner. It all just depends on who can GC the best in that match I would say. Marco is a good offensive character as well but can also be played as a keep away. Using his fireballs and counters vs dash/run ins or jump ins. Then mixing up his :r + :snka: overhead or :d: + :snkb: into :dp: + :snka:/:snkc:, break, etc. Then you have his low jump into his :dp: + :snka:/:snkc: break, etc. as well.
One thing I always notice about aggressive Kevin players is that they tend to go for the same patterns in their block/combo strings. If you know a certain string is coming, you have to JD then counter with a GC. It’s usually around the second/third hit of the block string. Main thing is to practice common block strings which is what I tend to do on the PS2 version. I record the dummy to do typical jump in or dash in block strings. Get the timings down so I can JD then GC counter those attempts. If you need more specific info like I mentioned before check the second post of this thread. It should have the important things listed that you should be using with Marco/Freeman.
You guys are so lucky to be getting a XBLA version of it. I no longer own an Xbox and my comp isn’t strong enough to handle this game on ggpo. Here’s hoping for an eventual PSN release
PSN doesn’t seem to be getting any SNK love these days, hopfully something pulls through.
thx for the info
I’m always playing Kevins with good high-low mixup. I can JD some things but not everything. I just wanna get Marco’s double dp+p down. Marco happens to be the one I can keep up with Kevin better.
I’m off to practice.
Is there anything i can read or watch to get an overview of the gameplay similar to the sirlin st vids or dandyj’s Kof vids ?
Also will be picking this up when it hits live.
Playing Kain due to him being the prettiest.
Check the first post of this thread where I go over everything you should know about the game engine. Second post goes over characters specific strats, combos, etc. Good luck learning Kain as he’s probably one of the harder characters to learn to use effectively. As for videos you can check my youtube channel on my sig. I have tons of japanese matches and combo/technique videos as well. If there is anything specific you need to know not mentioned on the second post of thread just ask here.
Very much looking forward to this game…Tizoc FTW! anyone else constantly checking to see if the game is live? lol
