"Get Ready...Survive!" The New Garou: Mark of the Wolves Thread

It’s possible for that to happen depending on the character.

Grant set to level 8… I was all like :woot: then

You edged me in 2 categories by 3-5pts. My team is still better than yours

We should play again sometime. I’d like to bang your Jenet

:kekeke:

I enjoy getting the crap kicked out of me in Garou and have been waiting to play you… let me know the time and the place and I’ll be there!

Does anyone know of high level gato players on yt???

and, if I get a counter hit with gatos dive kick on midscreen (from his “demon flip”) whats the best combo I can do after that?

There are a few good japanese Gato players from most of the videos I’ve uploaded on my youtube account. As for the counter hit with Gato you have a few choices you can do mid screen. I’ll just put all the possible combos you can do mid screem off a counter hit:

(Mid screen) :qcb: + :snkd:, :snkc: (counter hit):

-(No meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd: (1st hit), :snka: + :snkb:, :dp: + :snkd:. If you are in TOP mode you can replace the :dp: + :snkd: with Top attack (:snkc: + :snkd:) which does about the same damage. Just make sure you do the Top attack as soon as you break the :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd:.

-(No meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :qcb: + :snkd: (1 hit), :snkb: (1 hit), land, qickly do :dp: + :snkd:. You might need to time this one depending on how close the kick dive hits them for the counter hit. If it seems like they are a bit too far as you counter hit them, then just stick to the one above this one.

-(with 1 bar of meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd: ( 1st hit), :snka: + :snkb:, :qcf:x2 + :snka:/:snkc:.

-(with 1 bar of meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :qcb: + :snkd: (1 hit), :snkb: (1 hit), land, :qcf:x2 + :snka:/:snkc:. Very straight foward combo, again you might need to time out each step depending on the counter hit distance.

-(with 1 bar of meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd: (1st hit), :snka: + :snkb:, land, :qcb: + :snkd: (whiff), :snkb: (1 hit), land, :qcf:x2+ :snka:/:snkc:. This one is tricky because they have to be at the right height and distance for everything to connect easier.

-(full meter) walk in towards them as they fall, :dp: + :snkb:/:snkd: (1st hit), :snka: + :snkb:, quickly :qcf:x2 + :snkb: (has to lift them high enough for the next part to connect, land, quickly :qcb: + :snkb: into :snkb:, :qcf:x2 + :snka:. This combo is really hard to pull off in a match because everything has to be timed perfectly. If not then they will end up just falling too fast after the :qcf:x2 + :snkb:. You can also get rid of the :qcb: + :snkb: after the :qcf:x2 + :snkb: and just do :qcf:x2 + :snka: as soon as you land. It should have them falling at the right moment for the super to connect afterwards.

There you go enjoy.

I cant remember if I asked these before but:

  1. On the ps2 version how to record a command for the cpu dummy to replicate? Do I need to plug in another controller or something?

  2. Ive seen Freeman players combo things like cr.B, st.A xx qcf x2 + A. How is this possible? I tried holding the B but I dont it works in Garou and I tried qcf A+B but I get the overhead unless Im doing it wrong.

EDIT: Squash the Freeman question: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=4440732&postcount=1410

Thanks

You need 2 controllers to do the dummy recording on the PS2 for Garou. What I usually do is go to the training options in training and change the select button to be the command button instead. Once you have both controllers for P1 and P2 plugged in you can change the control option to player/controller. Then set whatever else you need like TOP mode and Super meter, etc. Now once you start you should be able to move both characters in training mode at the same time. Now in order to record for P2 an action you want.

Press select and it should give you a message on top of the P2 side saying ready in white letters. As soon as you move P2 it starts recording the movements you do and gives you 10 seconds max to record. Once the time runs out it will ask if you want to save, then you say yes. If the recording came out bad or something goes wrong you can always just hit select to start it over. Also you can record less than 10 seconds by just pressing select again during the recording when you record what you want.

Now with P2 depending on what button config you have setup up, default for the command action should be L2/R2. All you do now is press the command action button with P2 and it should replay what you just recorded. I also recommend you only record from the P2 side, because there is a weird bug in traning where P2 cannot JD anything in the air. Hope this helps out and have fun with it.

I haven’t played MOTW since the first year it came out, but I watch a good amount of youtube videos of the japanese tourneys.

One thing that has always bugged me…

Why is Kain and Grant tourney legal?

Out of all the match videos I’ve watch with them, I’ve only seen Kain lose twice, and one of them was a Kain/Kain match, and I’ve only seen Grant lose once.

IMO, they’re both (Grant especially) quite overpowered.
Grant does rediculous damage with normal combos, and can control space, run away, poke all day, rising upper/dive kick for almost free on most characters.
His stand A is so freaking good that almost any landed stand A goes into his ground Genocide Cutter super.
By the looks of it, the Stand A can link into super?

I’ve watch vids of monstrous Gatos, Kevins, and Jenets, but Grant always takes the cake on owning up everyone.

Because Gato and Kevin are sillier than either Kain or Grant.
cr. B->super >>>>>>>>>>>> st. A->super

kain would lose more if the guys playin him weren’t so good.

They aren’t overpowered. They’re on a playable level with the rest of the cast.

Every character can do a super after sA. Grant doesn;t have a lot of options or combos outside of the corner. He has no feint-able moves.

Well, I’m definitely not an expert at MOTW, but at least from videos, both Kain and Grant have really high win percentages.

Can you link me to the vids you’re watching?

I had a whole bunch more from single matches showing Kain and Grant winning a lot more, but the only ones I can find right now are from here

I’ll keep looking, but IIRC there were a lot of Mi-ka-do MOTW matches

I was re reading the CvS2 quiz that Buk did a while ago. It was good because I learned quite a bit of stuff I never knew before. So I was wondering if you have time make one for Garou .

If Grant and Kain were so good then we would see a hell of a lot more of them. For the most part Kain is probably one of the hardest characters to master overall. Especially at high levels, Kain has to work hard in order to stay on top of Gato/Kevin/Jenet players. When you get deeper into Kain’s more advanced stuff you have to really sit down and practice things like GC into charge kick off 1 or multi hits. Stuff like that isn’t easy to do the first time around and requires some practice. Not to mention trying to do them on reaction when getting pressured.

The main problem with Grant is he requires meter and has no feint cancels. His only real combos are in the corner like Giby already mentioned. That is why he needs meter in order to punish with a stand :snka:/:d: + :snka: into super. If Grant had feint cancels he would broken like the prototype version of Grant. Since he has that infinite with :df: + :snkc:, FC, repeat… anywhere on the screen. Once you learn what things you can and cant do agains’t Grant the match isn’t as bad as you would think then. A lot of his specials are easy to punish if you time things correctly during wake up, etc. His anti air :qcf:x2+ :snka:/:snkc: super are easy to JD because they have a slow start up.

There really aren’t that many Japanese Grant and Kain players overall. I know there are only 3 Kain players and 3 Grant players but usually you dont see them play each other a lot. Lately there have been more Tizoc/Freeman players winning tournaments beating out Grant/Kain players.

There hasn’t been any Mikado Garou MOTW tournaments, at least not recorded. You must have the TRF videos mixed up with the Mikado videos that Soh always post up.

I wouldn’t know what to write heh. Most of the stuff I have in the first and second post answers anything I would ask here. Maybe I could do like a situational type of thing and see if people can figure out how to counter that situation. I dont know I’ll figure sometime out but I would rather just concentrate on finishing the rest of the write ups and any questions people might have.

Anyone have any idea what this is about: http://s-rericom.com/mow/tips/ato.html

My guess is that with Gato’s super you can punish moves on block easier that are otherwise hard to punish because of his ridiculous range.

They talk about how certain specials have different windows for reversals when blocked. They use Jae as an example with Gato blocking both of Jae’s :qcb: + :snkb: and :qcb: + :snkd:. I’ll get more into detail about it since they talk deep about frame data stuff.

Coolio

Btw when does the live stream happen? Is it always a fix day and time? If not will the time be posted on the Haraheriwolves website?

Thanks

Well for me it’s usually on at 5am Sat mornings since Japan is 12 hours ahead of my time zone. Though for the most part they always have the videos up like a day or 2 after uploaded on nicovideo. So you can still watch them even if you miss the stream.

I also have a match between Giby and Charle’s Wain online on ggpo, about 42 mins long, 500 mb big. I have to split it into 10 min clips so about 5 vids total for youtube. Stay tuned for that.
