I’m finally settled 6 hours out from Sin City, or a $50 flight.
And yet… Smash, SFV, and… Smash.
Where is my motivation?
Evo last year was the first Evo I have missed since going in 2004. Watched the stream instead.
Evo isn’t the same for me and alot of the OG heads as it was before. It was all about wrecking shop in Marvel and chilling with the OG General Discussion heads. Since they stopped going Evo has been less and less fun for me. Odds are looking like im going to skip it again this year.
Saving my Money for E3 and Comic Con like I did last year. EVO is for a new generation of gamers now.
GGXrd, the rest is just filler for me, though i will still watch the other games top 8 and finals.
Except for anything smash, that shit bores me to no end, i prefer to insert needles on my balls than wasting my time watching that snorefest.
And depending how pokken developes i maybe watch it.
I asked a few of the old GD dudes if they were going and all said no. I guess I’ll add you to the list.

pretty much this. it stopped being about the games and the community as much as they try to make the focus seem that way. its like a really bad video game convention now where all the care about is $$$. Thus why the moniker $RK started around 09/2010 (you’re welcome). evo is a shell of itself. i think 08 with the double Choi victory and the passing of the guard to the new games was the hypest it’s ever been.
all the “hype” not just feels so forced and fabricated. when the smash and MK communities are the only legit hype communities that should tell you the state of the FGC.**
**Not a knock on Smash and MK. Love both series of games. It speaks to how poor the capcom FGC is now when they are the supposed to front runner of the community. they have the most money though so they get the most exposure.
I think it has more to do with you can’t really setup casual stations in the main hall anymore. You gotta find the rooms and people are even setting up paid suites for casuals. If I travel all the way to Evo and get pieced out right out of pools or in pools don’t exactly want that to be all the games I play. Lines with 40 people in it for arcade cabinets is pretty boring also.
Overall think it still is about the crew you run with when you show up. If a lot of the cool guys you are used to going with don’t go it just won’t be as good of an experience.

I just rewatched the ST GF again.
The adaptation in that last match is so godlike.
Anime suite was like a 2000sq+ room on the upper levels. So it was like a presidential style suite more than it was just a room, but in essence yes. Money was to help pay for that and shit ran 24 hours.
I guess if you’re setting up something big it’s fine, it’s just a weird concept to me.

Nah, just having people pay to have casuals in your room. I get that it’s a presidential suite, but meh, I can sort of afford that depending on how high we’re talking about. I wouldn’t charge people I bring back to play games or anyone really. I’d just ask them to bring some snacks/beers and not trash the place.
I’m not entering anything. I really don’t care to compete anymore. I’ll play some Revelator if someone lends me a stick and wants to play in a room, but that’s about it. I’m just going to watch EVO one day and that’s it. The rest I’m going to just relax and do some work while I’m in the area.
