General 3S/3S OE Thread. NO DISCUSSING REBALANCE, unless you like INFRACTIONS!

I found an interesting 3rd Strike DC Rom, don’t know if anybody has talked about this before.

Here’s an exciting “new” release that has never been done before exclusively from Team RDC. Some time ago the group FLT released a beta of Street Fighter III: Third Strike. This beta came from an earlier build of the game which was slightly closer to the arcade version of the game. In the original Dreamcast version, Urien’s unblockable move was removed as it was regarded by Capcom as a glitch. The beta version still features Urien’s unblockable. The Dreamcast version also featured an arranged soundtrack which is very different from the arcade soundtrack. The PS2 version of Third Strike included the original soundtrack; Dreamcaster ripped the soundtrack from the game so that we could include it in this one and make an Arcade Edition. The sorttxt from the retail GD-ROM was used. Fans of the arcade version and original soundtrack rejoice!

Thanks to CD AGES we now know that Oro’s unblockable is also possible. Thanks also go to jackyboy for testing the game and checking the music loops. [/details]

I’m pretty sure that an arcade perfect port will never make it to consoles but what do you guys think of this ROM? Does this sound more arcade perfect than PS2, OE, FBA, etc.

If I remember correctly, dc still would have extra input lag and some hitbox issues. So I’d imagine still not better than emulation or the other ports.

Dang, Louischiper finally got banned… He’ll be back.

That account was banned by his request. He already has an alternate account. That he’s using. Smfh.

Hmm, so I just got a message that there might be a stream later (8 or 9 PM Japan time) of a tournament. Probably attendees are Vanao, Genki, Pierrot and Yakkun.

youre probably referring to a tournament in dubai. those 4 are currently there so im assuming thats what it is. i havent seen any places that give any details about the event or stream. oh well.

Yep. Here’s the stream link.

EDIT: Odie, the Urien player is actually one of the guys who got me into 3rd Strike back in '04.

@Dander That AI cab was a Sega Super Megalo 2. http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/images/3/33/Sega_Super_Megalo_2.jpg
Japan Arcade had a Sega Megalo 50. http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/images/7/7e/Arcade_lejac_12111.jpg

Man I miss playing 3s on a big screen cab. :frowning:

you guys put together a fun read of a thread a few years ago. I’ve been reading through it and it’s some good stuff.

some of my favorite quotes so far:

it’s fun going back and finding stuff like this. there seems to have been a lot of fun discussion over the years.

Whoops wrgon thread

THIS SUCKS! The classic games need to be re-played, we need to have modern tournaments with the classic titles, all the video you find is shitty looking (compared to now) and were spoon fed 3d fighters we don’t enjoy. Imagine being able to go on spookys youtube channel and seeing the latest 3S tournament or hype match. I mean I know the game was played to death but that was done before we had good quality video capture.

how would you guys if tournaments were held for these games now as opposed to the days of past?

EDIT: THIS PAGE IS ALL MINE MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Imo, the tournament format as it stands is a dying breed. I’d much prefer to see the league format pop up and be adopted. Also, there’s a strong sense of individualism in fighting games, which is reasonable but I think team tourneys and league really drive participation more than individual ones.
I’d love to participate in tournaments or leagues for a new generation of players who enjoy older games (pretty sure I’m in that boat). Only problem is asking them to invest the same amount of time in a new game with less entrants as they would in a new game that’s more popular and (potentially) lucrative.
That said, it really depends on the network of the fgc. If we refuse to support older games that’s just the way the market is going to go. Hardest part to get what you want is to get the ball rolling and garner a committed consumer base.
It’s sort of like trying to revive interest in silly putty in the presence of the xbox 360. Both, in my mind, very entertaining products but one currently dominates the marketplace while the other had its heyday, is still talked about but never really adopted again.
I think a better analogy would be vinyl (which is actually slowly growing in popularity again).

I haven’t hopped on GGPO in a while.
EDIT:
Wish I had $400 to blow without feeling guilty about it…

Really the money argument hasn’t ever made much sense to me. If you’re a traveling tournament player playing modern games you’re likely losing money at worst or not making much and putting other important things on hold at best. It’s a shame the fighting game players went in that direction. A lot of them are playing games they don’t particularly like in the hopes that one day there’ll be actual money in it.

That’s a small part of the reason I don’t travel and don’t enter tournaments up here. The bigger reason is I’m a super broke nigga.

I bring my setup to locals and bigger tournaments in Seattle because I don’t really want to play the shit those guys are playing for money. I just wanna play 3S and GG.

I asked J-wong about the fgc in jersey and he told me about this spot called the break, anyone ever been there? Also I wanna get into the community, but I don’t hear much about jersey at all (armpit of america joke wherever you want). Anyone from round these parts of the US?

The Break is pretty popular, yeah. A lot of big names show up there for shit like Marvel and AE, but I don’t know anything more than that about the place.

For you guys who regularly play or played on CPS3

is this hardware supposed to be kinda finicky? I’ve had it complain at me in Japanese that I can’t read a couple times, only to fix itself within an hour. And today after a long play session, I turned it back on like half an hour later and can’t get it to display anything but a black screen.

are all CPS3 setups like this or did I just get a sketchy one?

Never had a problem.

Do you think it has to do with your version being the “custom” version?

Ps. I miss Igloobob

yeah I’ve been thinking that is a possibility. Isotopez was saying that’s unlikely but who knows really. since we built it we’ve had two instances where it displayed an error message in Japanese, and once where it just displayed nothing. Leaving it alone for an hour seemed to fix it in each instance. if I ever figure out why that happens I’ll mention it here. it would be good to know if that’s a side effect of the no battery mod (in case someone else wants to attempt it) or if maybe we just have a fussy board. in any case it’s working now so I guess it’s ok. I hadn’t touched OE in the last couple months so I got to mess with that for about an hour. nice sound effects.
