I like UOH for so many reasons and I wouldn’t change it, although not all UOH’s are created equal so its hard to talk generic changes. I think its great that it puts you airborne so it can sometimes work defensively. Simplest example would be UOH over low LOV. Also a UOH w/o good frame advantage (not meaty timed) so frequently provokes a throw tech that you can take advantage of that.

edit: it’s also one of the few moves that works better against a character with a very short crouching hitbox like oro and chun. very important move for shotos in these matchups imo

I don’t mean to come off as an ass but which non-meaty UOH offers frame advantage?

I thought UOH were even. Then again I’ve only been playing online so it could be that.

max distance or kara UOH vs certain characters

Most non-meaty UOH hit at peak height and don’t offer enough block stun or hit stun to set you neutral. They usually get you grabbed against grab-happy players. A little after peak height and you can play the tech/reversal uppercut games pherai mentioned in his post above.

I love kara uoh so much. Probably a little too much.

Any dope 3s mms going down at evo

I bet on dander

uoh is a real finesse kind of move. theres no exact anything to it since it all depends on distance, standing/crouching and which characters are involved.

some can hit really late in their arc leaving the performer with easily enough time to connect one of the quicker supers.

i find necro is super easy to uoh > super with. where as some other characters require greater precision with the spacing i think.

On the topic of execution: How do you hit kara shoryu w/ Akuma (the f+mp version)? Is it like a superfast kara cancel or am I just missing something?

626+MP~3+Jab/)Strong(/Fierce. 6326+MP works too.

All linear karas are 1 frame, but once you get into “double” karas, things obviously get harder as you need to do a direction change on that exact frame as well… ^^^ is that type of kara as you need to input the direction change and the button simultaneously 1 frame after twds.Strong… Which is why people should be more impressed with MOV’s consistency with Ken’s cr.FWD kara throw.

question I’ve been meaning to ask for a while. what governs whether the jab shoryu whiffs after Ken’s target combo?

example at 0:52

and also if I instead go for stand strong -> jab shoryu -> kara jab shoryu will it always be guaranteed in the same situation? I haven’t worked on kara shoryu at all but it seems like maybe I should start. though I’m guessing you can’t confirm the shoryu off of just the stand strong so it’d only be useful for punishes and not the situation I had in that video.

target combo into lp srk doesn’t hit crouching twins. maybe some others like oro, q… i can’t remember for sure. iirc all hits of ex srk should hit but most people don’t bother unless it’s a kill. there are some rare, ambiguous times when the conditions are met and it still mysteriously doesn’t hit, but it will never hit crouching yun. nice use of sbo3 daigo vs KO setup at 0:18.

cool, thanks for the info! I’ll keep the EX SRK in mind, that should be useful.

haha thanks on the setup. I’ve been keeping track of cool wakeup setups as I see them in videos and trying to use the ones I remember. I did a couple weird things in the rest of the match and wonder what I was thinking sometimes but that part was neat at least. that part at 0:09 where I get stand lk instead of throw after the parry made me smile. I’m not sure whether that’s just an input error or what but it seems to happen from time to time.

Okay, another question regarding mechanics:

What do you guys think of Quick Rise in general? I see where the devs were going with it and making it so you have to tap Down to do it but the problem is that you can just as easily mash it and get your Quick Rise. And unless you have them in the corner or you’re using a character who can confirm off of Low Foward it’s extremely difficult to maintain pressure. I think the devs didn’t consider how much better off characters who have good low confirms are in that situation.

I think it’s totally fine.
quick rising should never require very precise timing.

you’re not really put in a bad spot if you chase most characters that roll. it depends on the spacing and stuff.
it also changes the value of moves somewhat. since midscreen you can’t capitalize quite so much on a knockdown, you may not be so concerned with it. while a situation that has them roll into the corner or they are already in the corner becomes a lot tastier.

Any of you know anyone who is selling a Third Strike arcade board? I couldn’t get the time off work to go to Evo but I figure I should put the money to a worthy cause and buy the arcade PCB if I can find one. I can spend up to $500 for just the board/kit. I don’t care whether it’s American or Japanese, so long as it’s the original version and not the one with the unblockables removed.

I’ve PM’ed one guy who I saw had one for sale a couple months back, hopefully he still has it. I’ll probably post a WTB in the trading forum soon too. Just thought I should check here in case any of you know some people.

In the long term I’m interested in picking up a versus city too but for now if I can find a 3s board I’ll hook it up through a CPS3 Supergun. I expect shipping a cabinet up here to be pretty expensive so for now I’m just looking to buy the board.

Get Japanese so at least you can revive it when it dies.

Also Im told it doesn’t matter if you have new type. You can do a disc rewrite with an old type cd (if you have the cd version) if you can get someone to burn you one.

Arcade Otaku, shmups and neo-geo.com are all good forums to look around for a board.

*I like quick rolls, used to love them until I realized how much space I was giving up when I decided to use em. Or how I gave the opponent more momentum by speeding up the match instead of waiting that extra second to slow it down by a beat. *

If you are okay with having the board and then looking for a way to fix it Don, he has a thread here somewhere, has a dead 3rd strike board or some shit. I read him posting about it on his facebook feed. The srk name should be nightwing.
