Can we compare dmg to other top tier here for a second? Other characters can EASILY do the damage that gen does, without meter. Gen isn’t broken in the damage department. The only thing that gen has above others is that his bnb is also his most damaging combo(sans super>ultra), his hit confirm, and his footsie/pressure tool. But gen’s got little girl health and a terrible wake up game so i don’t see this as that much of a problem.

They were confirmed to not have chains (for the final build) in japanese capcom blog, in Q&As.

May I ask which strength of hands it was? If it was EX I wouldn’t be surprised. Also, may I ask which character he used it on?

While I want to stay silent, I’m pretty impatient, having to wait for the whole month for the game to come out, and being unable to play the game on that very week cuz of the final exams.

Actually…has anyone confirmed that the returning SF4 characters have the same trials, or have they been changed? Hopefully we get new trials, and hopefully someone posts the new ones for Gen sometime soon–they may give us a hint at his new links.

Chunbelievable said that he was able to link Mantis cr.lp into cr.mp, so that means that either the cr.lp gives more frames on hit, or cr.mp has fewer startup frames. Either one sounds good to me.

Not to poopoo on anyone but if they don’t want Dan in Dan Tier they don’t want anyone in Dan tier. They may accidently over nerf someone, but to think that Capcom would purposely put someone in a joke character tier while buffing the joke character out of his tier, is pretty naive. Capcom is not out to get your character.

With so many characters with chains, so many grapplers, Ryu having a 2 hit DP what would really be the point of focus? Srsly.

Why are people still thinking we don’t have at least one mk xx hands? The horrible GiantBomb video with Gen in it (I think part 5?) had mk xx gekiro.

Cheer up everyone - if Gen sucks either don’t play him in tournaments or pick someone else entirely. I feel sorry for yeb, jibbo and tom etc. that they will have put so much time in and have no transferable skills for the new game, but everyone will have to learn new timing with the faster engine, its just we have to figure out new combos etc. from scratch (welcome to the world of the new characters…).

We’ll just live with it.

One question though - why has noone checked the invuln., damage, startup etc. for the old ultras?

Maybe this was on block? From what we’ve been seeing of Gen’s new hands it looks like it pushes the opponent out way too far to perform the loop on-hit.

If we’re going to get into a debate, try to be reasonable, try to understand WHY I brought up Rose.

Gen’s SF4 version of mantis s.HP does more damage than Roses. that’s all I was comparing. I wasn’t saying “Only if it isn’t cancelled”. I mean, Gen has no near/far versions of his normals either which I think is beneficial since you know at all times there won’t be any range discrepancies to disrupt your combo intentions. He also has the strongest pokes in crane stance. So since Yeb was complaining, I was telling him “look what you could have instead”.

As for the real question at issue: “Why isn’t mk xx hands x2 Gen’s bnb?” Maybe because it wasn’t intentional. Maybe because the designers wanted to give him something more appropriate and easier to perform that’s as good. Don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s alright for any character to be able to special cancel off of such a good zoning normal AND let it combo into really good damage. You probably also wonder why they took away the Akuma loop.

SF4, in my eyes, wasn’t a finished product, and that could mean some very strong and overpowering, and retarded things were available to people that shouldn’t have ever existed like Sagat trade DP into ultra.

By the way, I don’t do mk xx hands because Gen is more fun without depending on it. And also he’s not my main, so kiss my ass. If I really wanted to lay hands on 'em I’d use Honda to do it.

YES, gen’s st.hp does more damage than roses by itself. BUT, rose gets the full 90 dmg still if she cancels into another move, while gen only gets 80. Also far st.mp is different than close st.mp. It looks the same as the close but its different. Also messes up my combo’s all the time since i don’t get +6 on hit with the far st.mp. His crane normals are strong but are slow and many are punishable on block so they don’t come into play often, or in my case at all besides jumping normals and overhead.

Other characters have tools similar to mk hands as well so your argument is pretty moot. Cr.mkxxfireball, st.lkxxlow tigershot ect. Mk hands only does 134 without any fadc, which is pretty similar to the numbers generated by any other character with similar moves.

There is a reason that when you look at the top gen’s that they are all doing mk hands. Its not just a coincidence. You may have fun not doing mk hands, but in the end you’re just choosing to not use a very good tool for no reason other than a prejudice against it.

Hahaha I have no prejudice against mk. Hands. I just think Gen has a lot of tools that are overlooked by Gen players because they’re obsessed with it.

Seriously, when it comes to actually performing mk. Hands, How many times is a top Gen player going to be able to land it on an opponent in a round who is wise to Gen’s tricks? My main point over all my posts, is that quality players do things to prevent you from getting in on them to render you unable to do BnB combos. Therefore, what should be the main concern for players in a game, is footsies, mix-ups, and set-ups for the BnB, not whether a move is nerfed. Because this “controversy” is more about Hands getting hit-stun reduced than Gen getting a damage nerf overall. Damage nerfs appear universal from what I’ve seen.

i dont mind having to relearn gen i got all his basic move set down in street fighter 4 and could do basic piano hands from mp since i found mp, lp,hp,lp,hp really good to piano that i found out i could do all the time. i only got mk piano hands down a few times which sucks that i was starting to get it and it really weird.

but like i said in my other post i want gen like in alpha 3 since he feels so much more useful with his styles

Wow, that’s pretty closed minded. Maybe he does? Maybe he’s mastered those tools but they simply aren’t as effective in SFIV. Perhaps with the changes, players like him will be the one’s that win the tourneys and the MK->Hands peeps will be forced to learn how to play Gen the way Capcom intended in the first place.
