i think you missed the point about the issue of j.mk into c.lk.
btw, not the recovery frames changed, but gen’s new jump arc makes this setup alot more worse than in sf4.

I dunno. Going from j.MK to anything feels like the window is smaller than it was in Vanilla.
yeah because u landed faster ^^ now you are a few more frames in the air.
ah aight. I feel the same thing with Akuma too when he crosses up.
My argument is that j.mk gets blocked most the time unless you are facing a scrub, nice selective reading though. But then again you have said you are new to fighting games. I have played a couple of Gens in my area, and many online gens. Oh and one other thing, you don’t record offline games with battle log, so anything in endless battle or ranked, so considering the stupid nonsense players get away with online sometimes means nothing to me, maybe if it was japan vs japan, thats it
Yeah, I can be an elitist douchebag aswell.
Does anyone see Gen as a frametrap&reset oriented character(lol)? I’m having an extremely hard time trying to get solid damage down so I decided to change my playstyle to trap and reset the opponent lots of time, instead of comboing into hands. I’m netting down meter and damage much faster, but am losing more and faster against mashers at the same time. I think I’m also getting an increased amount of insulting message.
PPP mashing Gief seems to be a nightmare though.
Neutral Jump sometimes baits Giefs that mash Lariot. Then I sweep or dash on them and sweep. Sometimes you have enough time to jump in and do a combo.
c.mk is too good. Dat range dat damage
Sure it does crap damage, but as a former fei long player any poke that you can abuse is good. I have yet to look at his frames, is it +frames?
nope if the frame data is right it -4 on block and -1 on hit. standing mp mantis is the normal you want if you want huge frame advantage
Gief is a toughie, if he reads your footsies he’ll green hand into command throw. But fake him out with the right overheads into damage or blockstring into sweep tends to work. I say into sweep because Gen loves his lariat.
Mashers are going to flowyuken inside of that 3 frame input online, cant do that offline.
Just walk up and block shotos until you know theyre not going to respond that way, then make them want too, then when they do block again.
Mixup !
Also: Crane J.fierce is really safe to jump in with, ive blocked many rufus U2 with it on wakeup
Green hand into command throw doesn’t combo. You want to put distance between you and gief - back dash now goes immediately from invulnerable frames to airborne frames. If he hits you its a reset and you move away. He can’t throw you.
What the hell are the ‘right’ overheads? We have one ground one, which is good or jump ins. If you’re jumping at 'gief you’re doing it wrong.
No blockstring will let a sweep come out free, and his KKK lariat cannot be swept and you’ll recover about the same time and be right next to gief. Where you really shouldn’t be.
I seriously hope that you are not suggesting that we walk up to all shotos at the start of any game and just block to make sure they don’t SRK.
Your advice is good only against the worst of the worst players.
Also: we all already knew that ©j.hp was godlike, check the combo threads, any combo that starts with a combo will generally have it at the start as an option because its one of our best.
Oh yeah, I’m back on the Gen train
I looked at the frama data afterwards and was too lazy to change it.
I have a new love now, mantis mp. It combos into itself <3
And what the hell is up the geikro? <_< I can only get the timing down on somedays. I even read the guide for it. It’s very inconsistent for me. Even the rhythm, kick kick~kick kick kick.
Gekiro is the same as it was before for the timing.
Never touched gen in sf4. It isn’t something I’ll get overnight, I’ll keep at it.
my apologizes. Have you seen this video?

cr0nt please dont troll me…
Im only suggesting walk up block to street because he’s playing againt the worst players, Mashers.
Mashers wakup shoryuken -usually- when you walk up to them, so if they are the worst/mashers players, that strategy punishes.
And I wasnt suggesting jumping into gief as a keep away strategy, that doesnt make sense, faking someone out is tricking them into whiffing an attack and punishing them for it, and his hitbox is really big, so in my personal opinion whether you agree with it or not is overheads, gief uses c.slidekick, lariat, and greenhand to move forward without dashing, and ©j.mk timed right stuffs lariat, slidekick, and sometimes greenhand.
Please dont put words in my mouth >< this is an intelligent discussion, so if you think my advice is bad, just give your own advice please
As for green hand into command throw, I only see it, i dont play zangief (and I dont really ever want too ;p) but as I read it now, the only safe option for the situation should you see greenhand into kara SPD, is to backdash or jump. I dont play alot of giefs, and I cannot give better advice, but its better than no advice, only messia responded at that point.
Already have, didn’t really help at all. Did see a ton of other related videos that had a different way of doing it. Works everytime now. I finally found my rhythm
Thank god, I prefer the gekiro combos because they look flashier when you finish them.
I play some really good 'gief players. They tend to just walk forward. They just do their super turbo shit unless you throw something out and they can then use green hand to move forward safely.
Your advice is just bad.
Against 'gief you have to just keep him away. Play it patient, go back to mk xx hands and just zone him out. He has a floatier new jump so that if he gets frustrated and does jump its really easy to just smack him back away. Be aware of him using j.hp from max range and taking a bit of damage - his high stamina allows him to train you by taking damage. When he gets ultra or super he will jump in and not press the hp to bait you, because it extends his hit box so far whatever you do will miss and you will eat death. You can knock back most of his jumping attacks when he does get impatient with s.mp. Neutral jump after green hand equals headbutt and 750 stun.
He will use EX bear grab and you have problems doing anything but running away.
Stay grounded and play it calm.
Against shotos learn your super turbo shit. ©c.mk under fireballs, aa with (m)s.mp and ©c.hk and when you do get close enough go to town. Against very bad players online who mash srk, you can cross them up and stuff it every time. Get in training and set it up to learn the distance/timing. It’s better to do this in mantis.
I’m not trolling you, I’m suggesting that if you don’t know what to do in a situation you don’t propose anything. Your advice wasn’t viable.
If anyone wants a real Gief match. Play Mariod00d.
Thats just what works for me, there is no definitive professionals for SSF4 to reference from -yet-
Saying it isnt viable and why is fine, but say it before you say my advice is bad, please T_T
