Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

I thought this was known? I’ve known about it for months. Was thinking about including it with some Sim j.HP punishes.but for some reason I thought someone had already posted it.

but as long as you aren’t too far away you will do the full super.

Damn. I did have suspicions, but nobody seemed to have posted it, so I thought I would go along and do it anyways.

What do you guys do against someone that plays really defensively? I can’t play footsies with someone that doesn’t play footsies anyway, or has no understanding of them. This guy just crouched the entire match with Ryu and every jump in I did got raped with c.hp or s.hk and Oga obviously did not work either as he’d just block it and srk (fadc U1)… I felt so helpless because for the first time ever I felt that it wasn’t me that sucked but the character I was playing. Fucking SSFIV favors defensive play way too much

/rant

Three things I try on them:

  1. Random walk back and forth Crane s.MP at its max range, unless he has gdlk reaction.
  2. Walk forward until right outside of his c.MP range then focus. If he does Tatsu then I do s.HP instead next time.
  3. MK hands chip until death (never happens)

You need to work on frame traps to open him up or just grab. Of course, the problem lies in getting close enough to get the ball rolling.

If he’s not doing anything, you can always do the same. Except he’ll be building better meter.

That is what I mean, these suggestions are nice. But he does not, I repeat, not play footsies at all. So he will not react to anything unless he knows it will be a sure hit. Not doing anything isn’t working either if the other guy has a projectile, he will gladly wait for the time to run out and win by chipdamage difference. I basically cannot get within footsie range anyway because of his godlike s.hk anti-air. any kind of jump towards him means a foot in my face.

This sucks, I finally reach 10.000 bp and now more and more of these type of players are showing up >:(

you could walk up into max hitting range of your focus attack. show lvl 2, and dash foward out of it. from there you will be close enough to start your pressure mix ups. someone who isnt moving likely wont be able to DP you on reaction to a foward dash

its not garaunteed dmg or anything, but after seeing it a few times he will start to do something

when i play someone who does that, i like to dash up cr.lk, cr.lp, walk back and poke xxx special. it allows you to see if they want to do nothing or mash jab/cr.tech/reversal/stand throw. the next time i dash up i know how i want to attack with frame traps to beat his techs or jabs, or overhead him/throw him if he does nothing

FYI I’m totally just bitching here, so please don’t read this if you don’t want to listen to nothing but pure bitching about scrubs who mash yet it pays off for them. Especially from players with high BP

I’m really getting sick and tired of playing vs mashers with like 10K. Seriously is it that easy for someone who mashes to gain that much points? It’s pretty sad when I don’t even need to mash to get my slower DP move to come out and beat any of their moves. I just buffer than press it when I know I can. Yet I check their inputs and it’s just SRK+LP over and over. What’s worst once I bait it out, they change it up, they may not do it right away, so I pause to bait, and they aren’t doing it. Then next time when I get in on them, they mash right away. it’s like some advanced mashing technique. what’s worse maybe I’m just dumb, and this is new to Super, cuz I never had problems in Vanilla. I’ll do a block string, dash back and I’ll get ultra’d by a 720 mashing Gief. WTF is up with that? Doesn’t his dash go far back enough where he can’t grab me? and no i’m not in the corner. I’ll do something like s.LP, s.LP to push him back, then dash back, then I get caught. It’s almost like I’m dashing back too early and landing in his throw range. but the messed up thing is, sometimes it looks like I’m not even dashing at all, like I just stood there. And I even mashed back dash out. The only thing I’m thinking about doing in a defense of my own is mash out HP hands as a response. It comes out in 3 frames and pushed them back, and you can FADC it. But the funny thing is, I BARELY have to mash anything out, and when it is a mash it’s HP hands to punish Gen’s roll on block, or Bisons Scissor kick on block. If I get knocked down, I just buffer DP motion. If they X me up, I’ll press 2X Kicks when they land on the other side if it looks like I can punish them. Or if it’s a straight jump in. Also If they are pressuring me in the corner say with bisons c.LK etc etc, I’ll buffer and wait to see if an animation comes out, if it does I will press 2x kicks. But I never press DP, 2xKicks during block strings just to get it out if their string drops due to lag or if it’s not a true string. hell I even do my Supers when I KNOW it’s going to work, like a far MK+Hadouken from Ryu, that’s not a true block string. Seriously I’m going crazy over how untalented Piece of shyte players can get away with such garbage. Especially when they are higher tier and think they need to pull that shyte off? I’ve always faced defeat, and admitted my loses and anytime. Unless SFIV. Even when I played S3 on XBL, it was so easy to admit I lost, I think it’s because it’s a totally different game, you cannot just stand there and mash bullshyte out. I like this game so much to just drop it, but it’s dumb shyte that capcom includes to make the game so nub friendly. What happened to practicing and learning how to play the damn game, so you could achieve some sort of self accomplishment? Fine you don’t have time to read frame data, hitboxes, match-ups, etc etc go play casuals with friends, and stay away ranked matches. Leave it to people who take the game seriously. It’s like Counter-Strike and Quake with CAL or CPL (I’m not sure if anyone knows what I"m talking about). Wait nm I’ll use Competitive sports. Don’t join Basketball in Highschool if you don’t want to practice, have a possibility you are going to play better players that might play harder than you, and all that. Go play basketball in a park with a bunch of no buddies with bad knees, who just want to play a race to 10. Simple as that. There are way too many modes for people to play and stay within their “skill level”. Remove Shortcuts, Forward, Down, Forward isn’t a hard motion to do, if you can’t do that motion, quit life. Life is way harder. Remove input lag, remove auto block. Solved. Super Street Fighter would be way better. I swear if they add Auto blocking to 3S Online, they can shove that title up their asses. I don’t care if it was back in the older games.

I could go on all night, seriously. Sorry to bitch, sorry you guys had to read that and say “i want 2 minutes of my life back” but I needed to vent. Normally I’m a pretty calm guy, and let shyte not bother me, but this is getting god damn ridiculous that I put so much time into this character, and all someone has to do is mash inputs just to compete with me. I’m so tempted to make a video of every scrub who mashes and just show how bad their input mashing is.

In a way if he wont play footsie at all that works in your benefit especially if your playing Ryu. You can stay at or just outside his max cMK range, in case he does press this button and you can sMK xx hands to pressure him, netting you small amounts of chip or meter. IF he thinks about throwing a FB your sMK will stuff it on start up in this range too. His only real option to beat sMK is his sHK and if he starts throwing those out any of your low pokes beat it. Also pepper in your sMP to catch him or force him into a frame trap if he lets you in this range. Plus if your in range of that poke you can move in a touch more and land the kara throw. I dont suggest focusing because a simply cMK xx Hado on his part handles that in most cases. If you have meter you can play around with FADCing hands and see if he mashes DP or what and punish accordingly.

As a general rule I start all matches versus Ryu expecting the FB and just dodging it w/ either n Jump or Crane cMP to show them the FB is useless. If he is not willing to play footsie with you he cant realistically hold a life lead. Add in your walk speed is as good if not better and you dont have to jump at him.

i did very well in live tonight but i need to work on my spacing. i can handle pressure very well but damn if i can win on a ground game. fighting someone who is good with a character like ken, which i have no experience with is always fun.

messiah i think only thing they really need to do is make the reversal timing more strict or take out the shortcuts. although that may fuck up something.

oh forgot i love the grab into lk oga crossup, although it won’t work more then once against a player who is good. it feels great to hit them with it, and then if you are lucky get them with the mk loga crossup afterword.

i won a great match against a Sakura using that.

Yo peoples …im new on the forum man…i play gen ibuki n cody atm…n was jus browsing the forum 2 c what u guys opinions and options 2 use when playing gen…now i play on psn and im also a pad user…i find it hard 2 convert my characters 2 fs cos of style i play etc…n e ways i was jus lookin at what sme1 said on the first page about gen and untechable knockdowns…i have a few things i try 2 add wen i get the breathing space in a fight n thought id share them…

my main 1 is a 4 hit combo but it is a little advanced…but wen u hit u can immediately score the untechable and start ure crazyness on ure opponent…

  1. (crane). arc jump/cross up mk. cr.lk,cr.hk(mantis)-basic

2.) cr.lk , cr.lp, cr.lk( crane), cr.hk(mantis) - it is a little advanced cos u gotta be sharp with the change on the style…but it does reasonable damage and also allows u 2 get abit more breathing space.

Most of the other setups are pretty similar jus basically doing combo strings which end in cranes cr.lk b4 u choose 2 add ure ending…like u can do the 2nd combo i put down near a wall and finish with gekiro for more damage ,or even finishing with a super 2 gekiro/ultra or even jus the raw ultra after the cr.lk (only done this a few times).

you should try what i was talking about in my previous post.

few important things to remember about mashing in regards to gen. first, as long as the normals you are using are chained together, there can not be a reversal mashed in between them. simple lp/lk strings are completely safe given you time the chain properly, and you end the string outside your opponents reversal range. if its gief, just chain 4 lights and stop. no spd/lariat can hit you unless you move back into range

you need to use more staggered attack strings. i know you prefer to use MP,MP, as a frame trap/block string, but it isnt really safe to use against braindead defense. start using cr.lk, cr.lp as a hitconfirm, then take a step back if its blocked, then continue your pressure by either walking foward with st.mp or throw, or mk/hands or whatever.

personally i like to cr.lk,cr.lk,cr.lp, walk back, crane cr.mpxxxjab roll. if they mash reversal, they go flying and i punnish. if they jab/short/stand grab, my cr.mpxxxjab roll whiff punnishes

if you mix in stagger strings more often then you will condition a smart opponent to just block, which opens up your other frame traps/tick throws. if its a dummy opponent, then he will continue to do whatever habbit he is used to doing

yeah, you have to start to use it as a home run swing. if you land it once and hit an ultra, the next time you play that person just do it so it dosent cross up.

high risk/high reward 50/50

Big off-topic but I feel stupid to make an entire new thread about this in general chat:

How do you get the ‘Deep Fighter’ title (the first page, blue title) unlocked? I had it in vanilla but in super I haven’t unlocked most of the first page titles even though I play way too much lol it’s weird. Couldn’t find any info on it.

Deep Fighter - Unlocked by winning 301 Online Matches.

That was the vanilla criteria, considering I have about 5 characters at 10.000 bp I’ve played abit more than 301 won matches, really weird.

hey warlike and messiah, gimme some damned feedback on my theory fighter advice

gotta make sure im not giving out bad tips cuz the comp i face isnt as good as i think it is

I’m sorry bro, I’ve been skimming through stuff because it’s finals in school. Let me take a look. I’m assuming you are talking about Post #652 ?

okay man I’ll try to use more jabs and shorts.

yeah, 652.

feedback in general is good tho. lets us see whats working/not working for everyone

id like it if everyone gave as much as they could. it can be pretty dead around here sometimes

I know personally I’ve changed a lot of my c.LP’s to s.LP’s much better Frame advantage.
