Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

I’m done with SFFIV. And I probably won’t be back. So thanks for everyone who gave me some great input on my game and I met some awesome peaps on the way. But I’m going to peace. Not going to be on here if ever again. Not even sure half of you care, but for the ones who do, cheers. Keep your Gen work up. If DLC does come out, and Gen does get a bit of a buff to make him a bit more competitive then you might see me back. But I highly doubt it. I’m back into PC shooters and joining back with my old team darkside for Q3. Plus some Cevo for other games.

Cheers homies.

wtf? that’s sad to hear. you ARE a grea pillar of the gen community :frowning:
but I bet / hope we’ll see you again. to drop it FOREVER is kinda hard. gettin better makes addicting ^^

peace son… question though how are we going to edit the matchup thread if you’re quitting??

I kind of felt this coming to be honest, because you were not very active the least few weeks/month, but I didn’t think you’d quit cold turkey. Well, that’s a shame. We did some great research together and had many informative discussions etc.

I hope you’ll return some day (be it Gen, or not) and good luck with your shooting career

hope to see you again friend messiah

I’ll keep checking then. I guess I owe it to you guys. So leave me PM’s with any updates and I’ll check once a week deal?

Thanks guys

Hey man, sorry to see you go. Thanks for participating and hopefully you’ll be back sometime.

Copying everything in the current thread and deleting afterwards would be less of a hassle. Preferably by somebody who drops by often (so…not me), and takes time to document stuff on Gen. If you were running a stream/site, people would be depending a lot more on your time and effort. But we can solve this one ourselves.

Crap, that’s not cool. Sad to see you leave, and I hope Gen gets buffed so we might be able to see you playing again. Your videos were a huge help to my gameplay.

Good luck to you, and thanks for all the videos!

Now this place will really be dead.

Dang it Messiah, now who will I look up to for gen goodness?

I’ve been having extremely bad days with gen lately, I’ve been in a total slump lately. >.< My pp to bp ratio is horrible.

Same here lol.

I play on Friday, PP drops to 2800 from 3400~3800. I play on Saturday, PP goes back up to 3400~3800. I play next Friday, PP drops again, I play the day after, PP shoots up again, and it’s been like this for over a month with total BP increased by a whole thousand. It’s the circle of life.

Im playing alot of gen mirror matches… where all the gen’s do is turtle option select throws & turtle some more. What am I supposed to do? These matches are BORING. It seems every Gen that is remotely on my level does the same thing after a few losses. What am I supposed to do in this situation?? Stop attacking? They literally just clam up block combo… block throw… block crossup find something that may trade with one of my moves repeat. After 4 block strings my combo’s start to drop and my killer instinct dulls out since I can’t hit any high damaging combo’s since most of them are not safe.
I just finished this series an I have a fukkkking headache, I hate turtles. Ok guys… roast me I can provide video as well.

I need to learn how to deal with Turtle’s period. Since that’s all Im getting lately.

find frame traps that beat crouch tech, like coruch short, stand roundhouse for example. then when they stop crouch teching, go back to throws

crouch short standing roundhouse crane or mantis???

mantis. and as tight as you can get the 2 together

you can test out different anti crouch tech frame traps by making the dummy do the trap, and you yourself croch teching against it

just be aware that this type of trap, with large frame gaps between attacks, loses to button mash. so it works better against a good player than it would against XBL/PSN bums with turbo jabs etc

It’s am mental thing. When you have a high amount of PP after playing for some time (lets say an hour) you’ll be more inclined to keep those points and trying to concentrate more. Unfortunately, it have the opposite effect usually. I should say that PP is actually a pretty decent way to gauge your opponents skill after playing ranked for awhile now (ofcourse there are exceptions).

If you can, try to frame trap with st.fp xx hands. Reason being that if it hits you can focus cancel into big damage.

This may have been mentioned somewhere else, but a semi Option select in mantis would be st.lk xx hp.super . I suck at buffering double qcf into standing normals, but against characters like balrog and his dash punches and Rufus with his df.mk , if done at certain distances it’ll stuff the move and allow a super cancel for big damage.

Funny enough I got the idea from balrogs st.mk xx super O/S. anyone ever use this?
