Breakdown the chages made that help Gen for me then because Im very disappointed in his changes not going to like.
How bad is the focus attack nerf to anyone who has played ultra?
my bad. didnt see the other thread. havent been here in a while
Any of you guys interested in starting up a “Team Gen” facebook group? It would be a very effective way to keep all Gen players up to date with new tech and match footage.
isn’t this forum good enough for that? We have tech and video threads here already, no need to split up the community even more I think.

The forums are a great place to archive and reference new/old things.
I used to be in a “Team Vega” facebook group, and it was extremely effective when communicating with all the individuals in the group. You get instant notifications/updates, you can direct message someone while you are at a tourney, you can share stream channels. I can message a Vega player while waiting on deck to play on stream and get match-up advice, before my matches. You simply can’t to that here.
It’s just a suggestion. If people are content with waiting a few days to get a response on a post…or praying for someone to come across your “match critique” video. Then that’s completely fine too. I just feel that having a facebook group will allow us to stay up to speed, when sharing things with one another.
It’s not an attempt to split the community, but an attempt to bring the community closer together. On the “Team Vega” group, people plan on meeting up at EVO, encourage one another to enter tourneys, setup endless lobbies for practice. It’s pretty awesome if you ask me
I’m not active on facebook much, that’s the problem for some of us. But go ahead and start a Gen group if you like, with enough time eventually more people will go to it. Some people may be more active there than on here. You may even advertise it in your signature.
couple of online matches I had but with serious lag, I think Gen will manage although bad matches will be a bit harder

I understand, maybe the facebook group will give you a reason to be more active on it? and good idea, I should add it to my sig. The group was just created, so if you do want to check it out or have anything you’d like to contribute just search “Team Gen” on facebook! Thanks
I know you’re all still discovering new things about Ultra Gen, but has anybody compiled his more relevant combos for Ultra?

I picked Gen up 2 days ago. Got on the forums to see how more experienced players played him. Mained Boxer since vanilla so I’m not inexperienced. I tried Decapre and Elena in Ultra and I accidentally ended up picking and really enjoying Gen after getting a decent handle on Decapre’s combos into hands and Elena’s bnb’s.
So far, I’ve played a handful of people online and just got done playing a session with friends and I think the most viable combos with Gen are:
cr Jab, st/cr Jab, target combo, LK waterfall (? I hope that’s what it’s called) (I think hitting the fierce punch of the target combo after standing jab is easier than from crouching)
st/cr Jab, st Strong, target combo, LK waterfall
For quick high damage punishing I usually go with st Fierce into HK waterfall. That’s probably not the most efficient, but I’m mostly trying to learn how to move around with him before worrying about longer strings and bigger damage. For now it’s working fine.
I’ve been trying to frame trap after the st Strong by delaying the target combo with moderate success, but when I know I’m going for a frame trap and they might block I always cancel the target combo into HP hands instead of waterfall.
I’m really enjoying Gen and I’m getting a lot of mileage out of both crane and mantis ultra 2.
I do have a couple questions for you though. Why use ultra 1 at all? The crane ultra 1 is not even close to as good as crane ultra 2, and there aren’t really any setups I can think of where mantis ultra 1 would be more viable than mantis ultra 2 unless you’re looking at hitting it long range. I’ve been hitting mantis ultra 2 just fine out of super. I read about a jump cancel glitch too with mantis ultra 2, so I’ve been hitting anti airs with it pretty consistently as well. I don’t know if the glitch is real or not, but I did notice in training mode that I didn’t do the crappy single poke mantis ultra 2 as much after I started using it.
So besides guaranteed damage on the mantis ultra 1, why do you guys prefer ultra 1 over 2, or ultra W over just ultra 2?
Thanks!
Would you guys say that U1 should be used for characters that have a good back dash, teleport or reversal move that covers their entire body like Chun-Li’s ex spinning bird kick. While U2 should be used for fireball characters and characters with bad escape options? Also how hard is it to learn how to do hands, especially if you don’t know how to piano or slide?
Uh, a bit up here on this page people say that st MK has longer reach than cr MP. Doesn’t sound right to me; I’ve tested, and cr MP seems to have slightly longer reach against standing Ryu.
despite all these nerfs i will main him in ultra the super ultra combo for 650 damage

agreed cr mp is longer … tested and confirmed
