Gen General Discussion Thread: Theory Fighter!

c.mp is a great mid-range poke and is easy to buffer hands into. Am I the only Gen that doesn’t like to jump?

I personally like the mirror match - it really is a test for your zoning and footsies skills and you generally get to add new things to your arsenal doing it. I played Super Hadoken in ranked the other day and it was the first Gen mirror I’d had in Super and it surprised me how much it was just like it was in vanilla - but that may be because we both played Gen in vanilla…

[EDIT]

@Neo0MJ if you anti-air with it it resets and you can’t catch them off a reset - its not like they don’t see it coming - the entire animation happens as they are landing on the ground. Anyone with a programmable stick confirm that it doesn’t actually cancel into mantis super? :frowning:

I like Mirror Matches, although it can get really confusing at times. Sometimes you think that your Mirror Opponent is gonna do something that you would do in his situation, but then he/she does something different, and it confuses the hell out of you. Mirror Matches, are great learning experiences, and that’s why I like them.

like crane c.mk roll also can be super canceld, but ONLY in crane super, which like allrdy stated is pretty useless.

you CAN combo xrane c.lk => 1st hit of roll => crane super cancel, which however does less damage due scaling as c.lk => crane super [not to speak of mantis…]

So they were just mocking us. It might be understandable if c.mk put them in a juggle state and didn’t reset.

On my way in I noticed this has the second highest number of people viewing, I wonder if that means we’ll have some awesome new players.

ur stick works fine man…the crane c.mk cancel to super is just plain useless n i think we should forget it even exists tbh

Thought so.

After mk xx hands FADC am I the only one that does jab > fierce xx gekiro? I see lots of people doing another mp mp mk xx hands or whatever. Is damage the only reason you do that instead of knockdown?

** OFF TOPIC **
Seems that most of this board is EU. Any of you planning on Super vs Battle?

you still fadc hands?

Lolololol yeah. Old habits die hard. I’m also burning EX on hands to get into sweep for knockdown. I generally don’t find meter building that hard but I play very much on the front foot so end up getting a lot from block strings.

ex handsxxxsweep is good, but i stoped burning meter on fadc’s unless it will end a round, or i can get a suprise shenanigan throw every now and then

Like I said - old habits :wink:

I’m sure I’ll stop it eventually… or maybe not and I’ll be the only one doing it and take everyone by surprise :nunchuck:

FADC isn’t that useless. Using more normals that build better meter is the way to go. I’ve had full meter first round many times. It’s not that hard, I just stopped using c.lk c.lp hit confirms as much.

I also rarely burn meter to fadc, unless I’m going for the kill I might do a fadc to throw, but his super is too good now for me to be throwing it out. It’s way easy to confirm now, as soon as I see my mk lands I just start doing the motion for super while mashing hp and it’s pretty much guaranteed. And the AA super is godlike with it having instant startup now. Wish they’d do that to the crane ultra 1 as well.

So often after a jump in I just hit mp then throw, then the next time I do it, I hit mp mp mk hands and almost everyone gets hit with the second mp as counterhit cause they’re trying to do something and so I pretty much will always get my super off at some point, if only he still built meter fast as he did.

Up close I still use them and don’t have any real problem with meter building. I can generally get out two FADCs and a super in a two round game, but I still hit a lot of c.mp s.mk and c.mk from max range and combo from the jab and short hit confirms into lk gekiro. Max range whiff lk gekiro against those its safe to etc. I don’t find it all THAT bad.

I’m the same way. I usually get two good FADC’s and a Super. So I FADC up until the last match and usually save Super for the end. Unless I see an opportunity like FADC into Throw off a block string.

i FADC mostly for random shenanigans to mix up my game play…i get meter pretty easily too through block strings and wall dives…i abuse the oga till they start blocking it…then i start attacking low :chainsaw:

Just to point out something, a move cannot be FADC’d if it cannot be super cancelled. That’s just how the game works. Sure, may not be too efficient due to his meter nerf, but it goes along with the theme of faster, better normal moves and less reliance on Mantis.

Really? Wow, you think the people writing the game engine would have done

struct {

bool supercancel;
bool fadc;

} move;

The question then arises - how many of you are FADCing ©c.mk? It’d definitely be a surprise tactic.

if (move.supercancel==true) then move.fadc=true;

When I use mantis c.HP after crane c.LK it means that I THINK he’s going to get stunned soon. I now use FADC in only this situation: blocked roll.

I rarely hit anyone with crane c.MK (I prefer mantis) so I have to say I don’t FADC after crane c.MK. I’m pretty sure that after you FADC you’ll be about even due to the move’s long hit stun. My question would be why isn’t crane s.MK FADC-able, or why isn’t crane s.LK special cancellable, but no way I would know the mind of the developers.

It might feel great if you land an anti-air roll (poking part) and cancel into super. There’s another way to combo into KKK super lol.

i dont get crane s.lk at all. dunno what it’s for. i tested a little with it and couldn’t find any usage for it, but the silly look and the ultimate pwnage an opponent feels by dying by this move.

gen vs dhalsim…does any of u have this match up figured out…cuz im lost…just played a set in an online tournament against arturo sanchez, well he isnt
an ordinary sim…lost 2-0…no suprises there…but talk about ur average online sims…any pointers?
for sanchez i was basically like crane stance for 80% of the match cuz i needed the faster walking speed and farther jump to get close to him…that along with oga shenanigans…got him once or twice wit those…and ex roll to get through his ultra and fireballs…
