well that is why there are people that are making wishlists so they don’t get random things like a random puppy.
The rules are read the wishlist and buy whatever you can on said wishlist.

You don’t necessarily buy for your santa, you will be santa for someone other than your santa. Also if I happen to be your santa like hell you’ll know until after you get a gift, that takes the fun away!
