Gametrailers' Top 10 Fighting game franchises

Oh, alright.

:hitit:

Ewwwwww, KI2 footage.

So Capcom Vs. games only pertain to Marvel?
What about vs. SNK…and vs. Tatsunoko?

i think vs pertains to them all…but i have a feeling they were def not thinking tatsunoko.

I agree with the games there, but I think the order is a bit off. The only thing that really got me was the MOTW footage and the comment about MvC2 . It was “broken”, but “balanced”?! :looney:

That is strangely accurate though. It’s like, everybody can do something so ridiculous that in a weird sort of way it still feels fair.

Srsly, I don’t understand the hate on them for no reason, they weren’t a SF by any means, but to say they didn’t bring nothing to the table at all is stupid, and if nothing else, they atleast helped popularise fighters in addition to what SFII did.

true but mk also put the whole industry on notice and in danger. in hindsite its silly but back then that shit was serious…and mk is the biggest reason we even have ratings…which obviously woulda happen to begin with.

The order is off.

If they are going on World wide popularity. Then it makes a bit more sense, VF should be lower(like 5) and tekken higher. Kof and SS could swap spots.

It be perfect then.

The order could be changed in places but for the most part I agree with this list.

I am thinking they mainly did it based partially on US popularity and the fact that KI was probably the game that firmly introduced long flashy combos to your average casual gamer.

They really should have just call it the Marvel series since really that is what it was. Although I personally don’t think CvS is much related to the Marvel series outside of team gameplay, Tatsunoko does play similar enough to the Marvel series that it probably should have been mentioned.

I am a big fan of SSII, but just because something was first doesn’t mean it was the best. I mean, shit, if that were the case, why isn’t Karate Champ there?

True, MK did have an impact, even if there was a negative side to it, that Ratings funny business was serious, hence I said it brought something to the table, I didn’t say all that it brought was good.

I’m sure this is going by popularity, as if this was based on technicality and the mechanics of the game, then weaponlord should’ve easily made that list.

In my opinion, people give MK and KI too much shit. I’m glad to see that someone somewhere gives it some respect.

No DOA at least woo hoo!

List fails without International Karate.

Seeing Virtua Fighter take the silver medal makes me really happy. I laughed my ass off when I saw the Garou footage, the “curleh mustache” bit, and the two seconds of love at the beginning that they gave to Evil Zone.
Say what you want about Evil Zone. I love that game to bits.

I don’t mean it in that aspect; I meant that the reason that it was probably ranked high was because it revolutionized the fighting game genre by introducing an entire cast who use weapons for combat. Suppose that the same for SF2 for kick-starting the entire genre, which is why SF is #1.

While it did introduce the concept of two player combat, Karate Champ neither had a series nor did it have a mainstream appeal compared to the other series. Now that you mention it though, they could’ve at least gave it a nod in the list for it’s contribution to the genre.

I’m surprised they didn’t try to cheat Smash Brothers into there.

SC is trash outside the first one. Guilty Gay is trash to DS should be on there before that pile of shit.

Count-downs of all kinds always leave a good number of people outraged. That’s just the way it is.

…Can’t believe Guilty Gear placed so high.
