LOTUS II is better than Top Gear 1 and 2 in the audio and responsive controls department and is arguably tied as far as visuals. The only Top Gear to come close is Top Gear 3000 as it beats it in visuals and is almost on par with controls (but has unbearable audio).
The only things the Genesis lacked were Square’s best RPGs (Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger).
P.S. Haunting Starring Polterguy is a unique one for sure. Majority of the companies were at their peak in that period (like Capcom, Tecmo, Konami, EA, Namco).
I mean the game is still solid enough. hard to mess up the core idea but i feel the track design is plain as fuck and the sprites that seemed so amazing before are butt ugly.
Also, starfox adventures and mario kart dd
sfa looked good when it came out but i dunno about you guys but i legitimately didn’t have fun when i played it. for some reason i forced myself to beat it too. I watched a video on it today and I somehow have worse feelings towards it than when i originally finished it.
I don’t feel that the entire gamecube era aged poorly but theres definitely several that didn’t.
Perfect Dark, Conker’s BFD and Banjo-Tooie were pretty much the last decent things Rare managed to cough up. Starfox Adventures was pretty mediocre. I still remember the shopkeeper getting angry when I haggled with him (best part of that game), but it played like a short, subpar Zelda game.
Now, hands up anyone who can remember any titles Rare released out after that. None? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Also, are there any specific reasons for why Microsoft made things worse for Rare?
MS was just simply being idiots. Thats all lol. I tried two post-Nintendo Rare games, Perfect Dark Zero, and Grabbed By The Ghoulies, the latter was surprisingly very fun. I enjoyed it and finished it.
Buf yeah MS just being idiots with management. I mean they closed down the Fable dev last year for the most stupid reason, so they havent made any management progress since they started in gaming business lol
I wish Nintendo would release the Wizards & Warriors games to VC. They were developed by Rare and published by Acclaim, and have never shown up on VC or the Nintendo eshop. It’s a shame, too. Those games were amazing. David Wise (of DKC fame) did their soundtracks.
Fortress of Fear was my first Gameboy game ever and hell was it trash.
I bought that game simply because the cover looked like you play some badass Conan the Barbarian guy who fucks up monsters and shit:
I mean I still beat it, which was a feat cuz that game was amazingly hard, but I felt no sense of accomplishment because it was a cheap piece of trash. Dunno if the NES games were the same though.
Platforming in Wizards and Warriors is pure fucking garbage.
Anyone who tells you those games are any good is a fucking liar who deserves to be banished to the darkest corner of Hell, never to be seen nor heard from again.
AND THESE SHIT GAMES SOLD WELL ENOUGH TO BECOME A TRILOGY WITH A GB SPINOFF!
Of all the goddamned shit… Viewtiful Joe will never finish his trilogy. And we’ll never know if Rau saves Tati from the curse of the Kasai, but the goddamned worst member of the Power Team(yes, worse than Kwirk) got four games to shit up consoles with.
They can’t the rights to that game are ether owned by Rare/ Microsoft or worst Legal Limbo.
Like you will never ever see a Diddy Kong Racing VC port, Diddy is owned by Nintendo but everything else is strictly Rare/MS.
There is a bunch of old Rare titles that are caught in Legal Limbo, anything Rare did for Acclaim/LJN and Milton Bradley.
Its who ever the current rights older for Acclaim, isn’t going to let the property go easily. Most likely some Lawyer set a holding company that is nothing more than a single office and a PO box as a shell to maintain the Copyright/trademarks.
Working on getting your times down in that practice course thru the cones, doing his electric slide with instant change of direction turns after hitting a gate and perfecting the best angles (racing course line) was pretty addicting.
I’d say Doctor is one game that hasn’t aged well. Used to play that with my cousins all the time when I was a kid; if I try to play it with them these days, they start screaming something about “sexual harassment”.
Tekken 1 looked bad when it came out. It came out after Virtua Fighter 2. Whatever your gameplay preference, Virtua Fighter 2 shit on Tekken 1 and hell Tekken 2 graphically.
