I just think it’s bad in general. Having prominent indy developers like Phil Fish whining and crying and throwing a hissy and leaving game developing forever (hasn’t he done that already? why does he give a fuck) makes indy game developers look bad. Seriously, people already call it hipster shit and with guys like him being a cry baby vocal minority is seriously degrading to the scene.
There are some really good indy devs out there who don’t deserve damnation by association.
I agree. Support the ones who aren’t sticking their nose into this, and are keeping their nose down and working on their wares.
Just off the top of my head, Mike Z, and Lucas Pope have kept their mouth shuts and just worked on their stuff. Support Skullgirls and Papers, Please, two good games that are good examples of what the indie gaming community should be.
I’m honestly surprised that Quinn hasn’t offered him a lifetime supply of McRibs to delete this thread.
If that were to happen I’d leave SRK. For serious.

Ya know, EVO has been showing a lot of support for indie games these past few years. While I’m sure this all started due to Skullgirls and later Divekick, who as far as I know are not part of the Silverstring Illuminati, I wonder if any of the other games that were featured at EVO’s Indie Showcases were.
I honestly doubt that there is anything wrong with it, I mean pretty much everyone involved in the Silverstring group is unanimously anti-fighting games and anti-FGC, but it might be worth looking into.
Not true, a ton of them are actually pretty pro FGC, legobutts was at EVO showing off Towerfall and had a ton of fun and plans on coming back next year as a competitor.

Tim Rogers was also there showing off Videoball. Game is mad fun.
Again this would be damnation by association, which I really don’t want to see happen especially in concerns to EVO. I doubt the likes of Phil Fish would ever want to go to EVO anyway. Plus, in the event that maybe one or two of them do go, maybe they would be open to discussion and not so brainwashed as we think. Who knows. Sometimes the desire to belong is greater than the desire to stand on your own.

They’re coming for EVO next. I wonder how they’ll react when they see how gangster fighting game players pretend to be.

Interesting. I figured with the FGC being inherently misogynistic and the “Fighting F*** Toy” criticisms, they’d all be on the same page.
Noooooooooooooooooooope them and the people who did that college research thing actually kinda love the FGC, they’ve just hilighted some of the negative shit about it. They aint Artut Gies who just hates everything, fuck that guy.
SJW already attacked the FGC with the cross counter bullshit with Aris. The best they can do is reopen old wounds.

Well, that Cross Counter shit with Aris was a legitimate problem. He harassed Super Yan so much she just gave up. No one should have to put up with that no matter if “that’s just how he is” or if it’s been part of the scene forever. I watched that shit go down and fucking cringed the entire time.

The problem with the SJWs when it comes to the FGC is that the FGC is entirely built off a meritocracy. We already have a few SJWs in the FGC but ultimately no amount of politics will make you win tournaments. There’s also the little inconvenience that the majority of top players aren’t white males or even straight in some cases. I’d love to see SJWs attack the player base in SNK games or marvel games and try to play the "CIS straight white man"card there.

The CC shit was a huge fuck up, sure, but it kickstarted a continual “FGC are the bad guys” narrative that journalism sites used to rally their user bases to continue commenting, continue sharing the article, skyrocket their cash.
I’ve still yet to see an article on a big site like Kotaku, Polygon, etc. about all the racist and homophobic shit that goes on in the eSports community, even when it comes to a very Aris-like head with folks like Orb. Could it be that companies like Activision/Blizzard pay these sites buttloads of money for ads?

That situation was always odd to me. Miranda was seen joking around with him a lot beforehand and she’s always been very quiet on the subject. A lot of people who know her say she tends to be over dramatic and a quick glance through her twitter reveals a ton of pro SJW rhetoric. This isn’t to say she should be abused or anything but when I saw the footage I didn’t personally interpret aris acting in a sexually abusive matter…he just seemed to be acting like he always does. I think the guy can come off as a asshole at times especially when he co-commentates but I personally think the situation was greatly exaggerated. Let’s keep in mind that Miranda is the same person who said she doesn’t play DOA because she finds it"gross"so it’s possible her perspective on what constitutes discomfort is very sensitive.
I think these kind of situations all depend on the context and individual. I remember when marn beat diago and the crowd erupted into screams right in front of diago’s face. A lot of commentators said it was a hostile and very rude environment yet daigo didn’t say a thing about it or complain afterwards.
I know exactly what they’d say.
"This whole scenario is a bunch of people who got picked on in school picking on other people who got picked on in school, forming cliques, tearing each other down on social media and thinking that just because what they say is on the internet means that it actually matters and that they can’t be replaced. Much like what happened in the music business, this is another example of an industry believing it’s better and more important than the products it creates, and people with no talent to make it in said industry starting beef like it was a rap feud in order to get traction for their own projects.
Zoe Quinn’s alleged dalliances with industry journalists, whether true or not, have made her a household name in the industry much like Kim Kardashian and her sex tape. And while it seemed to be a disaster at first, it was that same sex tape that made household names of Kardashain and Ray J. The journalists involved, as well as Quinn and others, are building their own brands as a result of this disaster and the longer it continues, the longer their names remain in headlines and the more attention and traction they get.
The sooner gamers move on, stop giving all involved attention, the sooner the gaming industry can get back to what it is that makes people care about it in the first place: the games."

Aris being that way doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. I mean, do we really need to post the video up? It was a bad look at how some FGC members treat women in the community. She was obviously not having it and instead of backing it up, he doubled down. It was a poor judgement call on his end.
I did not see anything on Cross Assault other than the part where Aris got Miranda to freak out, so I don’t have a frame of reference for if it was happening and she was encouraging it prior to that or not. Do I think there was a place for it, especially in a sponsored environment such as that to begin with? No. But if she was encouraging it by playing along, then that opens up a gray area where it could be construed as joking because she was in fact hamming it up alongside him, and not outright misogyny.
I will say that, having watched the Tekken Tag Top 8 this year, Aris did not say anything too off colored to warrant him still being villified. Just the way he does commentary is not enjoyable for me.
The breast cancer research donation drive, the fact that I’ve not heard of a woman in recent memory that has been harassed at Evo or other tournaments for being a player, heck, the fact that there was a woman commentating on Marvel pools…that’s becoming evidence to the contrary that SJW likes to ignore that the FGC is not what it’s painted to be.
TL;DR: The general consensus of the FGC doesn’t hate women, but they do hate people that use their platform to be a retard.
